pleasecalllater··on China's Detention Camps for Muslims Turn to Forced Labor
Anything like "you are not right because..." instead of flagging my comment :) Now we just have people living nicely in their bubbles who just want to remove everything which doesn't fit to their vision of the world, regardless if that's true. Whenever I write some true but unpopular things, people just flag it and it's removed later. This is so pathetic.
pleasecalllater··on Google One
What's the removal date for this service?
pleasecalllater··on China harvested organs from political prisoners, says tribunal
And nothing will change, as usually. Russia attacked Ukraine - lots of countries said how unhappy they were and that's all - nothing happened.

China is too strong, so companies will still make deals, will still buy and sell there, will just do whatever the China government wants. The same with the politicians bought by the companies.

Any tribunal will not change anything. Even UN is paralyzed as the all sanctions against China will get China's veto and there won't be any decision.

Even when Mr. Trump made concentration camps for children (just like Germans did during the WW2) did anything change after publishing the information about that?

So my final thought is quite sad: nothing will change, live on, be happy that you live in such a country which respects some other values (e.g. exploits work of children in Asia but not your children, so you can think that nothing happens).

pleasecalllater··on US Border Officers Don’t Always Delete Collected Traveler Data
I think we should tell them that we are really sorry about all that. We should buy them flowers.
pleasecalllater··on US Border Officers Don’t Always Delete Collected Traveler Data
What a surprise, right?
pleasecalllater··on Ask HN: Will Apple, Google, Amazon and Others Install Backdoors for Australia?
Yes, of course. Censorship for China, backdoors for Australia, espionage for USA, lies for the rest of the world. Unfortunately the only thing that counts is money. We are just providers of information they sell.
pleasecalllater··on NULL: The worst mistake of computer science? (2015)
I'm afraid current relational database have little common with the Codd's ideas.
pleasecalllater··on Chess Is the Killer App
But still the amount of points a woman needs to get to have a specific category is lower than for men.
pleasecalllater··on Fallout 76 Day One Patch Is Larger Than the Game Itself
And I'm still working for a patch for Fallout 4 as it just closes when I enter any key in the main menu only if I have internet connection. When I unplug my computer or disable the network card, all works. I can enable it again when a save is loaded. Internet is full of people complaining about that for over a year or two... and still nothing happens, there is even no official workaround information.
pleasecalllater··on Why Facebook's API starts with a for loop
Amazing site, it tells me that I'm offline :)
pleasecalllater··on Show HN: Technical note app that builds a knowledge base
...just dreaming

I'd love to have storing PDFs (with searching), storing web pages as images and as text (integrated with my browser), writing notes with markdown, latex, asciidoc, adding links. All that should run locally (as it is my data) with an online integration on a website, so people can edit the data as well. Also teams, projects, content versioning, online conflicts resolution (if more people edited the same file), categories, tagging... Configuring a custom pipeline e.g. to build a pdf from my markdown/latex sources.

Additionally a nice keyboard-UI, so I don't need to click all day, as it slows me down terribly.

I'd happily pay for this.

pleasecalllater··on A Gentle Visual Intro to Data Analysis in Python Using Pandas
The last time I wanted to use Pandas, it ate 32GB or RAM and then I just killed it, and made all the analysis in Postgres.
pleasecalllater··on Bill of the Month: A $48k Allergy Test
This is The Thing. The list is much longer. On the other hand there are many problems that are worse here as well. But for me the main thing is that in US people are dying or lose everything just because someone in the family got sick. This is sick!
pleasecalllater··on Bill of the Month: A $48k Allergy Test
This one thing keeps me from moving to US. Here in Europe I can pay about $50 for a set of 10 allergy tests (if I go to a private clinic).

I pay about $10 per month for a national health insurance for my whole family (I pay much more, but most of that is deductible from income tax - so when I calculated how much money would I have if I wouldn't pay this, it was $10).

As my wife is sick, she needed some special treatment. For the first days in hospital she got antibiotics, 4 times a day, $300 per injection. I payed nothing. Then she got some more drugs, sometimes a box for 5 days was worth about $3k - I payed nothing.

When our kids were born and spent the first 6 weeks in hospital on an ICU, the cost was about $150 - I payed nothing. When they had to get a special medicine for $4k - I payed nothing.

And yes, my taxes are a little bit higher than in US, but come on, I'd go bankrupt if I had to pay for all that. Or rather: I wouldn't pay, I'd live on street, and we would be dead now.

pleasecalllater··on Dynamicland: The Next Big Thing Is a Room
Really? Red thin text on white background? I'm sorry, I will not read it. Is this the purpose of this site? What's the sense in writing something normal people cannot read?

And yet it gets to the 1st page on HN, no one complains, and my comment will get huuuge number of negative points, I know, as usually when someone posts a comment about this kind of bad design of a page/author people worship.

Does it matter in this case?
pleasecalllater··on Ask HN: I am currently the only developer in a startup. What to expect?
Chaos, no sleep, chaos, endless stream of changing requirements, you will be blamed for everything.

Just remember: the real bonuses will go to the managers, not you, they will get rid of you as soon as they will need to find someone to blame for their decisions.

And of course the non-technical managers will know that "everything is easy, you will do the new dropbox over the weekend, right" (however that's so easy that they cannot do it themselves).

pleasecalllater··on I Pay for News; Why Do I Still See Intrusive Ads? (2017)
In the Ferrari case, you just got one huge expensive advertisement of the company. Just because you are not famous. If you'd be famous, then the Ferrari would pay you for wearing their logo. If you are not, you have to pay them lots of money for the same.
pleasecalllater··on No, Google, We Did Not Consent to This

pleasecalllater··on Tech Workers Now Want to Know: What Are We Building This For?
For money, my dear, for money. Is there any other reason for a company to exist? The stuff like "do no evil" or "we are green" is just a smoke screen. At the end they will do everything for money.
pleasecalllater··on Poll: Would you prefer no copyright to current copyright laws?
Nope. Information has no will, it's dead, it cannot want anything.
pleasecalllater··on Poll: Would you prefer no copyright to current copyright laws?
Cool. I have no idea what you do for a living... but imagine you write a blog, or you write books, or you are composing some music. Are you happy being hungry all days just because everyone can just copy you work and sell it on their own?

So when you will have an idea to pay your rent with the money you will get from your new book, just remember what you wrote: "Knowledge isn't a property. Copying is not theft.". So I assume it's fine that you will get nothing. So the choice is simple: you will be either a hungry homeless writer or you will find some other job.

And we will end with little books, little knowledge, little art.

pleasecalllater··on Evernote just slashed 54 jobs, or 15 percent of its workforce
I love when I get negative points for writing the truth. :)
pleasecalllater··on Evernote just slashed 54 jobs, or 15 percent of its workforce
Evernote has the best selling team ever.

They gave me premium account for a month. I didn't use it. A couple of months later I wanted to check how it works, so I asked them to enable me the premium account for 1h or 1 day. I wanted to check how the features work. After a week I got an answer: the premium account is available when you will pay. So I resigned. I don't like paying for I-have-no-idea-what.

pleasecalllater··on Companies worry more about access to software developers than capital
I'm afraid I don't agree. I'm more worrying about my job than the companies about anything.

If lose it, I will spend months for finding a new one.

I will send emails with no response.

I will be offered to spend enormous time for multilevel recruitment process, just to be rejected at the end.

I will spend hours making shitty take-home tasks, just to be rejected. Some companies even don't check them when I upload it on a server.

I will be asked terribly complicated white-board questions about forgotten algorithms used in no place. All that just to be offered a job about coding ETLs or adding some Javascript to a website.

All just to get a simple job. It doesn't look like companies are afraid. It rather looks like companies have endless stream of candidates and want to crawl them first, so they could not hire them later.

My last job hunt: 55 resumes sent (I was a perfect fit for 15 positions, not 100% for the rest). 10 companies responded. 5 were interested only about the salary, 4 of them didn't respond, 1 responded with "you wanted too much, we are not negotiating salaries". 2 terribly complicated take-home things (one company didn't event check it before rejecting me). Just 1 job offer, I took it, as I didn't get any other option after 3 months of searching.

It was 2 years ago. I'm looking for a job again... I've sent 20 resumes. Got no answer.

All 55 companies were posting the same job ads for the next months. About 5 of them are doing all the time, and the web is full of opinions how great the companies are.

So generally I feel like I'm rather useless than needed for the companies.

Writing anonymously here is cool :)
