Or my laptop crashes, ugh.
Yes, if I could ssh into a random server it'd be fine. But I can't.
Start from scratch, do some test runs, find the bugs, add the minimal possible text to avoid the bug, iterate
You can get 95% of my impl workflow skill by just telling Claude "split the work into slices and use ephemeral subagents" and the other 5% takes like 10x as much text to achieve
5.5 is much closer to Fable so i don't even need it. I am pretty sure it's got Fable's DNA in it.
I really need to find a role where I can do more DX...
I'd say it's been loosened a bit since then.
One repo at my work is DDD-esque, clean architecture, modular monolith.
It suuuucks to work on. Even without AI, editing any feature requires navigating through a bunch of app, infra, domain layers instead of living in a vertical feature slice. Indirection from cargo cult design patterns we don't need, like Mediator. With AI, degradation in quality and accuracy is plainly obvious. Everything needs hand-holding. AI is dumber than our average human dev so the creaky architecture made things 10x worse
The greenfield one we started with AI a few months ago is kicking along nicely. Warts exist, there are some really large files and questionable bits, but it's way easier to work on because we didn't make the architecture some convoluted dwemer mine thingy
This is way more fun than my normal AI usage. I need to find a way of doing this on purpose
var name = dbContext.Users .Where(u => u.Id == 123) .Select(u => u.Name) .First();
edit: maybe i should post it to HN
thinking about it, each drum here would have totally different ideal scales to the others.
this is cool.
Getting Haiku to rewrite everything user-facing has been way better.
I'm tired boss.
IMO the shitty output is a tell that the "artificial intelligence" bit is in the training regime much more so than the inference regime.
I always get Haiku to rephrase anything human-facing.
You might be on to something.
It's also kind of a wild take "I have nearly zero experience in <thing from other culture> and I don't understand why people from that culture enjoy it"
Re price and prep
First, it's quite difficult to make. Try it, lol.. but by your admission you haven't had anything decent.
Second - in Japan, Ramen is mostly pretty cheap, a lot of places have a vending machine where you pay for a bowl and get a ticket with an order number. It's really not a fancy or pricey experience unless you're somewhere upmarket.
Then by contrast the senate: each state gets 12 senators regardless of population.
That's a deal-breaker for me. I need as much observability and control over my development workflow as possible; that's part of my secret sauce.
isn't that the most free market thing ever?
At one point my boss asked why my AI usage was lower than other team members. I instantly knew what to do. Every session is now run at ultracode effort. My automated PR review bot averages like $80 in usage per PR review.
This is why arguments about this go in circles. You either argue from a pure theoretic POV back and forth, or you go off data - at which point, bringing up every failure of free markets (like, obviously, US healthcare) is dismissed as "not really a free market"
Even the theoreticians on the free-market side are far less solid than.. all the other sides (behavioural economics, information asymmetry.. even Marx) but I regard it as deeply unpragmatic when there's so much data out there indicating what actually happens in the real world when you go one way or the other.
If you point both at some github issues you can gauge their relative ability to solve problems.
Also to deal with my own weakness, executive dysfunction
Creating experimental tooling. I don't think it's totally possible without the models improving (I miss Fable already) but you can shift the process a bit. With Claude/Opus at least, saying to "re-derive" a document is a magic phrase that carries meaning for Claude to think about totally re-doing a document.
All you need at that point is a blurb about making sure it's conceptually organised but I haven't found a neat way to express this. Kind of like refactored well-structured code is smaller than spaghetti.
The interslop is real. Simulacra and simulation.
