plagiarist··on Instagram is incorporating users' photos in ads for Meta Glasses
If the only way to interact with a business is via Facebook or Instagram, I don't interact with the business.

Unfortunately this is more of a problem for me than it is for them. I hope my position on this becomes more popular over time so that everyone can stop using spy- and adware.

plagiarist··on Tidal AI Policy
As soon as they find the side of the story they already agree with they know that the platform is a marketplace of ideas instead of a bubble.
plagiarist··on Pollen tried to remove my article and Google is assisting with it
Has the US ever opened a single DMCA perjury case against anyone?
plagiarist··on Pollen tried to remove my article and Google is assisting with it
Steal $20 from a gas station and it is jail time. Instead, steal wages from employees and double-charge customers to make it a civil case.
plagiarist··on Streaming services' obnoxiously loud ads become illegal on July 1 in California
Those need to be banned, the billboard trucks (and boats) need to be banned, and the shockingly bright headlamps need to be banned.
plagiarist··on PlayStation Is Deleting 551 Movies from Customers' Accounts
The amount of people who are willing to tolerate the "cable-ization" of streaming services is far larger than those who will torrent
plagiarist··on Founding a company in Germany: €9600, 152 days and I still can't send an invoice
For a new business with $0 the individual running it will be the guarantor on those.
plagiarist··on Elevated error rate across multiple models
In general I agree with you, but on the other hand it is an agentic coding agent you should have isolated in a container or VM anyway
plagiarist··on Flock-Powered Police Chiefs Stalking Women Shows Why Warrants Are Needed
They can get a subpoena for that, too. The bike and the parcel are already long gone by the time police do anything. (Nor will they do anything other than file a report if you are lucky.)
plagiarist··on Steam Machine launches today
A sound economic theory after we grant the assumption that all consumers have equal amounts of money.
plagiarist··on White House delays US voting-machine vulnerability report
Gore did win that election, but SCOTUS illegally decided it instead of a fair ruling requiring Florida to recount ballots using the same methods in all districts. Americans should have done general strikes and rioting.

I don't know about 9/11, but I doubt Gore's SCOTUS appointees would have made the incorrect decision on Citizens United. America would be in a better place today.

plagiarist··on White House delays US voting-machine vulnerability report
Which Amendment in the Constitution outlines the right to enter the Barack Obama Presidential Library?
plagiarist··on White House delays US voting-machine vulnerability report
Voter ID is a "solution" to a nonissue problem of a handful of people casting votes illegally. Everyone clamoring to implement voter ID is a disingenuous liar with the motive of disenfranchising citizens. Disenfranchising large numbers of people is a far greater problem for faith in elections and election integrity.
plagiarist··on A new bill takes aim at government pressure to silence lawful online speech
My objection to their comment is that the right does not protect these values.

I have zero idea what they're talking about contrasting against. They seem to be suggesting the center and left do not respect these rights and the far right does.

plagiarist··on A new bill takes aim at government pressure to silence lawful online speech
The level of doublethink from the right is completely insane.

Additionally, when I fact check what they're whining about, it is often like, "the White House requested Twitter ban medical misinformation about coronavirus, without threat of consequences, and they did."

plagiarist··on A new bill takes aim at government pressure to silence lawful online speech
What? The far right is against free speech. They only ever screech about free speech when someone is experiencing social consequences.

They whine about actual Nazi rhetoric earning bans on private companies' platforms, then turn around and open investigations on people criticizing their masked police force. Attending protests gets you added to the terrorist watchlist.

plagiarist··on I told them forced consent was unlawful. 5 years later it cost Elkjop €1.8M
My go-to is always their domain, if it works.
plagiarist··on I told them forced consent was unlawful. 5 years later it cost Elkjop €1.8M
I found some shit like that in a gym contract, which I then declined.
plagiarist··on The Web We Know Is Going to Disappear
It is already gone. Actual content has been flooded out by millions if not billions of affiliate ad listicles where, completely coincidentally, the top ten best $product are also the first ten $product on the Amazon search page.
plagiarist··on Has AI already killed self-help nonfiction books?
I liked Ferris explaining that you can validate a market exists by serving ads pretending you already have a product. What a scumbag. Isn't the rest of the book just drop shipping and selling supplements with high margins? I recall snippets of a manual for unethical but mostly legal small business between stories of people making money on such practices.
plagiarist··on Has AI already killed self-help nonfiction books?
With a book you cannot do "that's not what I wanted to read, I'll adjust the prompt."
plagiarist··on Mantine-datatable (and others) compromised – owner account suspended
If you're leaving based on security failures, Gitlab is not the place to go.
plagiarist··on Meta's ships facial recognition on smart glasses
IMO if you remember two kids, rough ages, and their hobbies; you are probably far ahead of needing glasses to make it through the interaction gracefully.

I do agree with your main point, just not for this device. I think this device breaks expectations for socialization in a weird way.

But I am dismayed that it is a cloud device, I am dismayed by all cloud devices, and I am dismayed by people who happily buy it all. I don't know what I'm going to do next time I buy a car, for example.

plagiarist··on Meta's ships facial recognition on smart glasses
I don't want superficial interactions with people pretending to remember my birthday or children using details from a fucking glasses summary.

If I wanted to chat with someone pretending to be interested in me I could just answer the door when salesmen come knocking.

plagiarist··on I built a vulnerable app and spent $1,500 seeing if LLMs could hack it
When we are stabbed to death by impoverished dudes who are piloting a robot worth more than a decade of their income to do household chores for 16 hours a day, we will deserve it.
plagiarist··on Gemma 4 12B: A unified, encoder-free multimodal model
Do they prefer E4B over the larger models or is it a matter of what fits their machine? I assume 4B isn't large enough to get interesting writing but I don't know anything about it.
plagiarist··on U.S. to dismantle system tracking Atlantic currents that are at risk of collapse
That is correct. The person who brought the tweet up has previously made racist comments on HN. You are interacting with people who prefer Donald because of the bigotry.
plagiarist··on Failing grades soar with AI usage, dwindling math skills in Berkeley CS classes
It sounds like yet another far-right racist spreading misinformation under a randomly generated username.

"Anno Floyd," fuck's sake, they have a severe brainworm infection to be mad at some guy murdered by police and the protesters upset by the situation. It is impossible to take a comment seriously with this.

plagiarist··on Florida sues OpenAI and Sam Altman over AI risks
There should be some SCOTUS case where this limitation on the First Amendment is defined if the law doesn't work like that.

I mean, back when Constitutional law meant anything to the government, of course. Nowadays who knows.

plagiarist··on The newest Instagram “exploit” is the goofiest I've seen
This exploit is my new gold standard for trivially avoidable security failures. Someone has finally beaten Gitlab's password reset emails to attacker-provided addresses.
