pk-protect-ai··on Tencent's 'Hunyuan-T1'–The First Mamba-Powered Ultra-Large Model
According to this very model there a "mere technicalities" differentiate human and AI systems ...

Current AI lacks:

First-person perspective simulation Continuous self-monitoring (metacognition error <15%) Episodic future thinking (>72h horizon) Episodic Binding (Memory integration): Depends on: Theta-gamma cross-frequency coupling (40Hz phase synchronization) Dentate gyrus pattern separation (1:7000 distinct memory encoding) Posterior cingulate cortex (reinstatement of distributed patterns)

AI's failure manifests in:

Inability to distinguish similar-but-distinct events (conceptual blending rate ~83%) Failure to update prior memories (persistent memory bias >69%) No genuine recollection (only pattern completion) Non-Essential (Emotional Valence) While emotions influence human storytelling:

65% of narrative interpretations vary culturally Affective priming effects decay exponentially (<7s half-life) Neutral descriptions achieve 89% comprehension accuracy in controlled studies The core computational challenge remains bridging:

Symbolic representation (words/syntax) Embodied experience (sensorimotor grounding) Self-monitoring (meta-narrative control) Current LLMs simulate 74% of surface narrative features but lack the substrate for genuine meaning-making. It's like generating symphonies using only sheet music - technically accurate, but devoid of the composer's lived experience.

But for the training it does. You need to communicate gradient changes between GPUs.

pk-protect-ai··on GPT-4.5
Yeap, that the thing, they are not ahead anymore. Not since last summer at least. Yes they have probably largest customer base, but their models are not the best for a while already.

Do I get it wrong, that this will be incompatible with OrthoGrad¹ optimizer?

What about NVLink? Does it plays a role here?
pk-protect-ai··on Show HN: VimLM – A Local, Offline Coding Assistant for Vim
Why people tend to nail some stuff into their products?

We have been talking about the AI revolution for several years already, and yet there is no IDE or plugin for VS Code that supports multiple OpenAI compatible endpoints. Some, like Cody, do not even support "private" LLMs other than the ollama endpoint on localhost. Cursor supports only one endpoint for OpenAI API compatible models.

I made a custom version of ChatGPT.nvim for myself to be able to use models I like (mostly removing hardcoded gpt-3), though I dropped it because then I needed to invest time into maintaining and improving this version for myself instead of doing my job.

I'd like to run several specialized models with a vLLM engine and serve them at different endpoints, and then I'd like an IDE to be able to use these specialized LLMs for different purposes. Does anyone know a vim/neovim/vscode plugin that supports several OPENAI_API_HOST endpoints?

For now, this is only possible with agent frameworks, but that's not really what I need.

pk-protect-ai··on We were wrong about GPUs
Fly.io probably runs it on Kubernetes as well. It can be something in the middle, like RunPod. If you select 8 GPUs, you'll get a complete host for yourself. Though there is a lot of stuff lacking at RunPod too. But Fly.io... First of all, I've never heard about this one. Second, the variety of GPUs is lacking. There are only 3 types, and the L40S on Fly.io is 61.4% more expensive than on RunPod. So I would say it is about marketing, marketplace, long-term strategy, and pricing. But it seems at least they made themselves known to me (I bet there others which heard about them first time today too).
pk-protect-ai··on If you believe in "Artificial Intelligence", take five minutes to ask it
Before GPT-3 was public, there was BLOOM 176B, and this model made my skin crawl because it was capable of answering "I do not know." That was an experience of a lifetime. I was honestly impressed and at the same time scared.
pk-protect-ai··on The hidden complexity of scaling WebSockets
I agree here. I have had an experience of scaling WebSockets server to 20M connections on a single server (with this one https://github.com/ITpC/LAppS.git). However there are several issues with scaling WebSockets, on the backends as well: mutex locking, non-parallel XOR of input stream, utf8 validation. I do not know the state of the above repository code, it seems that it was never updated for at least 5 years. There were bugs in HTTP parsing in the client part for some cases. Though vertical scalability was excellent. Sad this thing never reached production state.

pk-protect-ai··on In Memory of Stiver
Regardless, under current conditions there is no slim chance of rebellion in Russia. Massive conscription, on the other hand, and of course massive losses of the conscripted may cause an effect similar to 1917. However, the next government will be the same dictatorship as it always was in Russia, just slightly less aggressive toward neighbors.
pk-protect-ai··on In Memory of Stiver
To repeat this, there has to be a condition: "the oppressed can't bear it anymore." Economically, they are totally fine. They are just cattle who are fed and expected to behave as the owner requires. Ninety percent of Russians who didn't leave the country after 2021 have no incentive to be in any struggle; they are fed, they have work, they have a roof. The conditions that helped in 1917 were related to an economic disaster that the majority of the population experienced, and this was influenced by the 1st WW as well (which took a huge financial toll on the elites as well).

How do you change the political environment in a dictatorship where ruling class has all the power and majority of the money and controls what you should read, watch or talk about?
pk-protect-ai··on The guy who gave a negative review to Battlezone 98 Redux after playing 8k hours
Were those really 8k hours? I remember installing some "new MMORPG" over steam (I'm a linux user) and impossibility to even pass tutorial because of the anti-cheat kick-ins at some later point after login. The whole game session takes like 3 minutes. I have had several attempts like may be 5. At different times after some changes to environment. The game have reported more than 300hrs to the steam.
pk-protect-ai··on Trump wins presidency for second time
You can't win this argument, you are using too many big words and lot of text. Dems should lie as reds to win the votes over... Right?
pk-protect-ai··on Trump wins presidency for second time
Why is there an assumption that Trump or reds in general will solve this issue? He was a president already, what exactly did he do to fix the situation? The system is built to segregate and separate people into classes efficiently, making the rich richer and the poor poorer. After all the one who has more resources at the start of the game will win. I'm curious who will be labeled as an enemy first to redirect Trump supporter's rage when situation will not improve itself?

pk-protect-ai··on Facial recognition glasses turn everyday life into creepy privacy nightmare
The variety of devices available on the market surpasses your imagination. Meta's glasses use the same cameras that may be embedded elsewhere in hats and clothing. There are smaller and larger cameras. Meta's glasses simply provide a single person with real-time operational feedback. Whoever is spying usually already knows what they are after. I can't grasp why people are not frightened by the fact that their information can be so easily accessed, yet they are concentrating on some specific device (yes, with some additional benefits for the user, though it's not the only device of its kind).

pk-protect-ai··on Facial recognition glasses turn everyday life into creepy privacy nightmare
Meta smart glasses or any camera, the problem is not in what you are using, the problem is how easy it is to dig out the information about people in real-time.
pk-protect-ai··on Meta Movie Gen
It is really amazing how consistent this model is in demo videos about world object details over time. This spatial comprehension is really spooky and super amazing at the same time. I hope Meta will release this model with open weights and open code, as they have done for the LLaMA models.
pk-protect-ai··on Giving C++ std:regex a C makeover
Thank you for the context. I wouldn't have read the article without it. I mean, it's a pretty good idea for "no runtime," but when I saw the article title, I thought at first "Why????" Honestly, I'm glad I read it.

pk-protect-ai··on Is My Blue Your Blue?
lmao: "Your boundary is at hue 168, greener than 85% of the population. For you, turquoise is blue."

When there is no choice to select proper color and you only forced to tell if it is green or blue, despite that you see how many green is in that blue. When you forced to call cyan a blue ... Amazing declaration of BS.

pk-protect-ai··on Diffusion Training from Scratch on a Micro-Budget
I hope that somewhere around that period of time we will have AI-based "game" engines working at 30-40fps at 4K (of course with upscaling). I mean it might not be game engines per se, but universal, interactive pipelines for audio-visual content creation/consumption. Because right now I do not see any hope of such engines due to the number of models involved and the latencies this implies.
