pixelcloud··on Why We Hear Voices in Random Noise
It is quite crazy. I have experienced this before and once I was on LSD. That was not a nice experience, I heard screaming babies. Easy enough to stop (put on music!) but really creepy. I thought I was going mad for a minute or two.
pixelcloud··on My Next Mac Mini
I believe NUCs are targeted towards businesses to be honest. I have a couple of them, and they are very boring, but high quality. Plenty of different configurations, but Intel isnt really trying to sell pre-built windows boxes (unless you buy a bunch of them consistently)
pixelcloud··on Microsoft earnings blow past estimates in every category, beats Street
This is why we sell Azure and not AWS.. Amazon doesnt not care about enterprise business (unless you buy millions and millions direct from Amazon!)
pixelcloud··on Mac sales declined nearly 10% last year as Lenovo, Dell and others gained ground
And then you can wait another 1000 days for a refresh.
pixelcloud··on The Steam Controller Configurator's Untapped Power
You can customize it quite a bit, dead zones, sensitivity curves, etc. But its just not the same as aiming with a mouse in a FPS. Twitchy games are basically impossible with the controller.
pixelcloud··on KeepassXC – A cross-platform community fork of KeepassX
But the most common alternative is Keepass in Dropbox... Which is effectively very similar
pixelcloud··on Western Union admits to aiding wire fraud, to pay $586M
And to further this point. You address the root causes of these issues in government and society. Why is the debate "Should we take away more of peoples privacy?" and not "How can we stop things from happening that create reasons to remove privacy?".

The logic is basically this: Terrorists now are communicating over encrypted p2p systems (or any new tech)! we need to backdoor encryption standards. Then! we will defeat the Terrorists (once and for all).

Crime works in a similar fashion. The police will never "solve crime" no matter how much power they have to invade your privacy. They will become great at catching criminals though.

Typical humans!

pixelcloud··on Loading Chrome Extensions in Brave
It is surprisingly slow.
pixelcloud··on Loading Chrome Extensions in Brave
They do that and have some bitcoin based microtranaction system for content producers.
pixelcloud··on Finding an Alternative to Mac OS X
Try using Linux with a Windows VM (if required). I have a computer running Arch Linux + Plasma and it is quite nice. With a bit of tweaking you can get a OSX like or Windows like desktop environment. I will use the Windows VM to connect to a VPN and run work applications that require windows, but I can get my email and documents easily through Office365 90% of the time.
pixelcloud··on Star Citizen and Squadron 42 are using Amazon’s Lumberyard game engine
Amazons engine IS Crytek. They licensed the engine and SC switched. Which really isnt the biggest difference given that its basically the "same" engine.

pixelcloud··on Bose Hearphones
That means you probably have hearing damage. I read an article recently regarding this, many younger people have issues with this and it IS physical damage.

pixelcloud··on Windows 10 Cannot Protect Insecure Applications Like EMET Can
I think their belief is that some of their new security features will cover the gap. https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/WindowsForBusiness/Windows-A...

I know they partnered with Bromium to help create this. https://blogbromium.files.wordpress.com/2016/09/bromium-micr...

So essentially they replaced it with a microvisor, its pretty neat really. I haven't personally played with it yet, but I am curious how they deal with user/application data. Bromiums offering was very limited in many ways (mainly the applications that are supported) but it is amazing. You basically can open up a browser, grab a virus, shutdown the browser. And you are done! Once you launch it again it will be a clean application, on a fresh microvisor.

The irony is the Airport Extreme performs better than the equivalent Ubi AP.

Airport is amazing for consistent throughput and reliability.

pixelcloud··on Microsoft Replaces Command Prompt with PowerShell in Latest Windows 10 Build
ConEmu si really nice simply because you can have tabs, split pane and good color schemes. 've never gotten to the level that some people need, so ConEmu + bash = everything I was using on OSX.
pixelcloud··on Snowden: Stop Relying on Facebook for Your News
You assume people ever cared about facts. People are more emotional than they are rational when it comes to things that are outside of their control. While someone might be perfectly rational and logical in their life (e.g. they pay their taxes, they go to work, they make smart choices in their day to day lives), when it comes to things that are outside of our control (politics, economy, death, etc).

We have always been pretty irrational and easy to manipulate.

At least they have something they can sell afterwards...
pixelcloud··on ICQ: 20 Years Is No Limit
MSNm was very Canadian. AOL was never huge in Canada, maybe that is why?
pixelcloud··on Visual Studio Code 1.7.1
Its an insider preview, it will be hit or miss depending on the release. VSCode release updates often and they have broken things in the past, which usually get patched within a few days.

Don't do Insider if you need a guarantee of stability.

pixelcloud··on Gameroom
Some of it is highly dependant on your internet connection. But the games library seems to be snappy with 300 games. I find that updates can run extremely slow though, 1-2MB patch taking 5 minutes to download!

I remember when Steam WAS really horrible. The green client ran so poorly and was extremely slow at updating anything,

pixelcloud··on Asus to surpass Apple in notebook sales: TrendForce
I recently got an HP Spectre, I would not recommend it (due to unresolved driver/hardware issues) but the build quality is pretty good! Keyboard is very nice with excellent travel.
pixelcloud··on Adaptive Hardware: Context Aware Interfaces (2013)

pixelcloud··on The “432 Hz vs. 440 Hz” conspiracy theory
And you actually pointed out why those two things are different.

We understand Star Wars is space wizards. New-agers do not understand that their beliefs are mostly bogus.

> It seems that a lot of Duarte's designs are somewhat derivative

All UX/UI design on major platforms is "derivative". None is ground breaking.

I find it funny how you back up your claim by showing an equally derivative work (LG Smart TV)

pixelcloud··on Daydream – Google VR
VR headsets are designed to be comfy to wear in general.

This is an Apple like move, they made it sexy and "nice". Something that might appeal to the masses.
