pivnicek··on Zero Tolerance Policies Put Students In The Hands Of Bad Cops
That looks very interesting. Thanks for the link.
pivnicek··on Leaked report shows high civilian death toll from CIA drone strikes
The robots that drop bombs from the sky could never be the good guys. Who would go see such a film?
pivnicek··on White House silent on renewal of NSA court order
Whether or not the court order is renewed will be secret, won't it? Isn't the whole point to make all the agency regulations secret? I mean, the original court order wasn't public, why would the renewal be?
pivnicek··on Obama wins back the right to indefinitely detain under NDAA
There is no difference anywhere. Even in the old communist countries you support one kind of corruption or another. World wide, in democracies, there is a distinct lack of an honest option.
pivnicek··on Obama wins back the right to indefinitely detain under NDAA
Please also notice that this "news" is reported on Russia Today. Where is the American Reporting? They are too concerned with royal babies, ironically.
pivnicek··on Obama wins back the right to indefinitely detain under NDAA
At least Snowden showed that the "home of the brave" part is not entirely false.
pivnicek··on Obama wins back the right to indefinitely detain under NDAA
Welcome to extra-legal-land. There are no rights here except for those of the accuser. No burden of proof or evidence required! Do you hold executive privilege? Imprison and murder as you wish.
pivnicek··on Linus on "acting professionally"
No, it's not ridiculous. If building a bridge were the context, and someone built a piece that would collapse the bridge, I'd fully expect any foreman to say "What the fuck is that?" "That is shit".

And I'd fully expect any worker to say "Yeah, damn, you're right, that was stupid. Cheers, I'll fix that"

People didn't start building stuff in the digital era., It's the same principles.

I hope to hell all crap gets called out, otherwise we're in a position where the bridge builders "meant well", and I wouldn't want to cross a river over such a bridge.

pivnicek··on Linus on "acting professionally"
He's correct about the cultural aspects. Many cultures value directness in criticism. Why should an open source community be bound by an American ideal of "correct behaviour"?
pivnicek··on Show HN: Tracking the FISA Court in real time with a bit of code
Great idea! Watching the watchers is a valuable public service. Cheers!
pivnicek··on Government Builds Free Cloud-Based Backup for an Ungrateful Nation
True satire is very welcome, especially considering the sad state of public opinion.
pivnicek··on Judge Orders U.S. to Release Aaron Swartz’s Secret Service File
It's been corrupted since the Kennedy assassination.
pivnicek··on NSA Rejecting FOIA Requests by US Citizens
"Trust us" will never be good enough. Not when accused are not able to know the charges against them. Not when you can be held indefinitely without judicial recourse. Not when prosecutors demand ludicrous sentences for accessing a public API. Not when the executive has the apparently legal ability to assassinate opponents without oversight.

No. Sorry, there can be no trust in such an arrangement. You want trust? Don't have secret courts.

pivnicek··on In Secret, Court Vastly Broadens Powers of N.S.A.
We are open about our secrecy.

"It is transparent, that’s why we set up the FISA court." - Barack Obama

pivnicek··on AngularJS: an Overview
Directives are the game changer. Dreams of dynamic markup come true. There are still a few limitations especially wrt routing/view/state, but that is being actively worked on. It's hard to see a future of the web where angularjs doesn't play a starring role. Get your head around dependency injection and eureeka!
pivnicek··on In Secret, Court Vastly Broadens Powers of N.S.A.
A government that demands secret courts can not call itself democratic. It is the antithesis.
pivnicek··on Venezuela, Bolivia offer asylum to U.S. intel leaker Snowden
You may be correct if getting asylum was the only purpose of the spray and pray request. To me, it seems to have filled another purpose also, to show the people of the requested countries where their governments stand. For example, the French government's come under quite heavy fire for their handling of the situation.
pivnicek··on Venezuela offers asylum to Snowden
They didn't render any self-proclaimed American patriots though.
pivnicek··on If PRISM is Good Policy, Why Stop with Terrorism?
Sadly this is true. The constitution that the USA was founded on not only affected the people of North America, but the virtues documented there were held as paragons of a just society for the entire industrialized western hemisphere.

Sadly, we are seeing these values eroding and dying. And the few that stand up for them, being imprisoned or silenced.

I despair.

pivnicek··on Politician: Call Snowden to Germany as witness
Haha. Very good play. A history lesson no bohemian will ever forget.
pivnicek··on EU Parliament supports the possible suspension of U.S. data sharing agreements
Please do. It would really be best for all involved.
pivnicek··on Revelations about the French Big Brother
It is some coincidence for this to come out the day after the airspace fiasco.
pivnicek··on Snowden Leaves Hong Kong on Commercial Flight to Moscow
Thanks for that link. Seem to be a few flights out to Havana. That would be an interesting destination.
