pitzips··on Launch HN: OneCLI (YC S26) – OSS sandboxed agent harness for teams
I started using OneCLI when Nanoclaw (came out just after Open Claw) announced them as the way to handle credentials. I think that may have been their first boost?
pitzips··on Ask HN: Is there any interest in a native Qt/C++ Discord client?
Similar to what you're describing, Ripcord was being developed ~5 years back. https://cancel.fm/ripcord
pitzips··on Google calls Gemma 3 the most powerful AI model you can run on one GPU
I'm using gemma3:27b with the latest ollama (0.6.2) and vision is working.
pitzips··on WonderHuman: 3D avatars from single-view video
Reminds me of that scene [1] from Enemy of the State where they "Rotate us 75 degrees around the vertical" in one of those "enhance, enhance" tropes.

pitzips··on No Longer Posting to Pinboard
The design of Pinboard exists in a similar but self hosted service called linkding [1]. I've been self hosting with Docker for a few years with no issues I can recall. Just checked and it does have the responsive forms as well.

pitzips··on Airfoil
IIRC you can view the source and it's all custom WebGL available for viewing.
pitzips··on Obsidian 1.5 Desktop (Public)
I use FolderSync for Android which works well for my obsidian sync needs
pitzips··on IKEA sensors for doors and windows, motion, water leaks
I find the Ikea outlet switches are great repeaters. Always plugged in, easy to move around.
pitzips··on Louis Rossmann: Autodesk turns lifetime licenses into subscriptions [video]
Check out onshape.com, it's similar to fusion360 and is quite good for hobbyists. I use it for parts I need to 3D print.
pitzips··on Show HN: Currl – A free text-based social bookmarking website
linkding hit the spot for me. self hosted with simple API. https://github.com/sissbruecker/linkding
pitzips··on Windows10Debloater: Script to remove Windows 10 bloatware (2021)
Rufus (the ISO to Flash Drive app) recently added a feature to create a local user right into the installation media, remove telemetry, and remove windows 11 hardware restrictions. It's worked like a charm so far.
pitzips··on DALL·E now available in beta
Midjourney recently changed their terms of service and now the creators own the image and give a license back to Midjourney. Pretty cool.
pitzips··on SvelteKit Is in Public Beta
Elegantly written, thanks.
pitzips··on Google plans to shut down Google Voice integration with classic Hangouts
I'm a Google Fi user. To be able to make and receive voice calls from my desktop I'll have to sign into 'messages' which forces the sms part as well. I prefer to not receive sms on desktop but love voice calls.
pitzips··on Google plans to shut down Google Voice integration with classic Hangouts
Forcing me to sign into "messages" for voice calling is bad for my personal security. Some sites still only provide 2 factor via SMS. I don't want to be forced to receive them on my computer, when my phone is the 2 factor device.

Don't like this change one bit.

pitzips··on Industrial Literacy
I've recently finished 2 books that helped give a nice macro level to human's "progress".

'Sapiens' & 'The Perfectionists: How Precision Engineers Created the Modern World'

Stuff You Should Know (podcast) has also been a gem for learning broadly about industrial and material topics.

pitzips··on Lightroom app update wipes users' photos and presets, Adobe says not recoverable
Rawtherapee is another top contender. I use it in conjunction with Affinity Photo and have been happy with the workflow.
pitzips··on 92 of top 500 subreddits controlled by same 5 people
I think I'm nearing 2500 filtered. It's actually a nice place to visit now.
pitzips··on Ask HN: How do you do home surveillance?
At my parents house I purchased a relatively cheap desktop with server hardware (PowerEdge T20). We planned viewing angles and doors/windows that he wanted monitored. We ran Ethernet cables and got a POE switch.

I tested out most of the non-commercial NVR software and landed on Blue Iris (the most recommended on ipcamtalk.com). Zoneminder and others were not as stable nor feature complete. My dad has the Blue Iris app on his phone so he can monitor remotely.

Blue Iris has motion detection and other common features.

Hikvision and Amcrest are often recommended for IP cameras.

ipcamtalk.com is an great resource for troubleshooting.

It's been a rock solid setup for 3+ years.

Edit: Price list - Blue Iris 5 (~$50) + Blue Iris App (~$10) - 4 Hikvision IP Cams off eBay ($280) - T20 Desktop Server ($330) - Desktop Server Upgrades (~$160) - Ethernet Cables ($50)

pitzips··on 13.3" full color ePaper display
I believe Waveshare gets their panels from the same place good-display.com does. The Waveshare adapters work on good-display panels.
pitzips··on Cats Cannot Taste Sweets (2007)
I hear ya! Mine is obsessed with eating cobwebs.
pitzips··on BZFlag
Are you a fellow Tanarus refugee? I miss that game so much. I had the most flags in total in that game!
pitzips··on Google clamps down on free storage
It's not ideal, but you can search for 'larger_than:5m' and it will show mail greater than 5mb in size.
pitzips··on Long, Pointy Shoes in Medieval Fashion
Similarly, the pointy shoes still live on in Mexico and Southern USA: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexican_pointy_boots
pitzips··on Show HN: Squally – A Game to Teach Low Level Computer Science
For what it's worth, I struggled for so many years understanding what higher level programming actually is, while simultaneously doing it. It never felt complete.

I went through Crash Course Computer Science (from John Green / PBS...) and it really helped me feel grounded.

Maybe this is attempting the same, just starting at one end of the abstractions.

pitzips··on Ask HN: How do you keep track of the articles you want to read?
I create a bookmark on the Chrome bookmark bar. More than a couple articles and it looks ugly so it triggers a read/process cleanup. Seems to work.
pitzips··on AIM will shut down after 20 years
My first program was a visual basic registry editor that allowed me to add more than 200 buddies. Thanks AIM!
pitzips··on Privacy is more popular than ever
I hadn't heard of WhatsApp for years being in the USA. You are right that in the states texting was free much earlier.

It spread like fire with Europeans being able to text across countries. Texting was free within country, but between was expensive.

pitzips··on [dead]
My guess is to be invited into the slack chatroom. I remember slack needing that to invite.
pitzips··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired?
Just an FYI, those who may be doing the hiring may have no understanding of how to contact you. I'd highly suggest to add your email as well. Make it as easy as possible for someone to reach out.
