pit··on Logging can be tricky
God bless you -- you are doing the Cloud's work.
pit··on Xamarin makes me sad, here is my message to them
So is IBM, with their Worklight platform:

Weird.

pit··on Refraction Simulation
Best part: Chrome lets you right-click/Save As... to download a snapshot of these beautiful simulations.
pit··on Apple is propping up a fundamentally broken payments industry
This is the sort of thing that Square Cash provides, correct? Send money directly from one checking account to another through your debit card.

You could do it! Wrap an HTML file into a WebView Activity. The Android portion is pretty much:

    public class MyWebViewActivity extends Activity {
      @Override
      protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
        super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
        WebView webView = new WebView(this);
        setContentView(webView);
        webView.getSettings().setJavaScriptEnabled(true);
        webView.loadUrl("file:///android_asset/index.html");
      }
    }

Processing is absolutely wonderful. Be sure to check out p5.js as well [1], which has hooks into various HTML5 APIs including video and sound.

pit··on A hilariously sad tale of gender bias
"I think anonymity is authenticity, it allows you to share in a completely unvarnished, unfiltered, raw way and I think that's something that's extremely valuable." -- moot
pit··on Raft: Understandable Distributed Consensus
It's intended as a gentler introduction to Raft[1]. I thought it was great for someone with no real knowledge of distributed systems like myself.

[1] According to http://raftconsensus.github.io.

pit··on Raft: Understandable Distributed Consensus
Holy cow: social media is a means for distributing consensus.
pit··on One hundred rules for NASA project managers (1995) [pdf]
It sounds like you're looking for Haskell.
pit··on How “Legal” Are Seed Libraries?
In the same way that the current problems in Ferguson would have been mitigated by a modern, efficient, privatized police force.
pit··on ShellCheck – Online shell script analyzer
Finally, something to do with all those install scripts that pipe the output of curl to bash!
pit··on Ask HN: Would a .Net back-end put off potential acquisitors?
Thank you, that's extremely encouraging. I think we can effectively migrate the web service to Nancy while keeping our C# business logic as is.

Should be a fun week!

pit··on Ask HN: Would a .Net back-end put off potential acquisitors?
I agree, Nancy is a lot of fun to use with Mono. However, I've been stuck trying to get a WCF (older ASP.NET) application running on Mono for a while now, and it's been a huge pain.
pit··on Netflix on Linux with Chrome
I can confirm this works on Chrome on OpenSuSE 13.1:

pit··on The Tao of Programming
Some of them are gender-neutral (e.g. "the Programmer" in 3.3).
pit··on Data.sparkfun.com: A place to push your data
Thanks for looking out for me, though! One can never be too careful.
pit··on Data.sparkfun.com: A place to push your data
Why? I belieb that those keys are unique to the stream (which I don't really care about).
pit··on Data.sparkfun.com: A place to push your data
This is pretty cool -- it's like a mini-ElasticSearch (and of course I'm overstating):

    $ npm install -g phant
    $ phant
    $ telnet localhost 8081

    phant> create
    Enter a title> library
    Enter a description> a bunch of books
    Enter fields (comma separated)> title,author
    Enter tags (comma separated)> paper,cloth

    Stream created!

pit··on Show HN: Faster access to Google hangouts
I don't use Google hangouts because I don't want a Google+ profile.
pit··on Atom Now Available on Windows
As a long Windows user, I too was skeptical of Chocolatey (somewhere on the spectrum of "what's the point" to "oh no, more garbage"). An endorsement from GitHub makes me think twice, but I can totally understand your point of view -- it feels a little silly to install a package manager to install a single program.

Do you feel the same way about Ninite?

pit··on Atom Now Available on Windows
No, I've moved on to Proton:

That is the most awesome advice I've ever heard. Thank you for sharing it.

pit··on The Man Who Saves You from Yourself (2013)
Oh, I didn't mean that I thought they were lousy before, but now my perception is overwhelmingly positive.
pit··on The Man Who Saves You from Yourself (2013)
There's a "Download PDF" button. Holy cow, my respect for Harper's, and perception of them as a serious publication, just skyrocketed.

Are any other online publishers doing that? It's not even that I'm going to print it out or anything, but clearly it shows that their priority is readership, not ad conversions.
