i don't want my children to grow up in a house with no books, so i intend to only read ebook of books i own.
i am against most of the forms of piracy, but frankly i don't like the idea of having to pay for the paper version AND the electronic version of a book. i don't feel it like it's buying two copies of the same book, but more like having to pay for the same book twice because one time you read it on the bus and the other time you read it on the couch. it's the same book whose rights i've already payed once, i think i buy the right of reading like i prefer.
so, while it is obviously better to have a friend fun AND intelligent or a girlfriend sweet AND intelligent, in the end pure smartness is never the first quality i look for in people.
i installed windows back and in a day i had all my extra keys, the second plug, photoshop, cubase and my wacom working.
i'm on a mac now, and they make the software for the hardware and the hardware for the software and i'm on the rich side of the market so adobe and wacom make software for my os of choice.
that would be _your_ fault, not microsoft's.
because, of course, time is free.
i'm a happy mac user now (user, not fanboy) that enjoys having a posix compliant terminal in a window and photoshop in another, all working out-of-the-box.
i'm happy to pay for this.
As I also work with media (graphics and music), I find the lack of any semi-professional software for producing music (nothing to be compared with Cubase, Ableton Live or even Fruity loops) nor programs to make graphics (Inkscape is not close to Illustrator and then Gimp...).
So I had to constantly keep a virtual machine for those (read: running in a virtual machine the most resource expensive programs) or another partition for dual boot and I ended up having two PCs.
I sold them both and bought a Mac where I can have Photoshop in a window and a terminal with a proper unix machine on the other.
