I'd rather be playing GTA 2.

pir8life4me··on How the Tobacco Industry Drove the Rise of Ultra-Processed Foods (2025)
Japan has ultra processed foods and they don't seem to have an obesity epidemic.

They do have a strong education system that teaches cooking and food budgeting and related.

They also don't have a marijuana epidemic.

pir8life4me··on There's No Limit to How Bad Code Can Get
I recently got a thank you and a refund for towels I had returned from Amazon.

The towels were damp from bring used, I had never initiated a refund return, nor had I in fact returned them.

I reported this to amazon and had to find a human since the system had no "refund for nonexistent returns" option. The human didn't get it and pinged his team lead. After 20 minutes they told me to just keep my towels and refund.

You have a rather religious position on things and don't even know it.

Maybe people should answer their own questions with or without AI first?

If people did some basic work first being a meat proxy isn't needed

pir8life4me··on Defrag98: Windows 98 Disk Defragmenter Simulator Online
You had to recompile a kernel module to support your dang modem and network card or no networking. X11 was a royal pain cuz there was no it just works desktops.

Package mgmt was a nightmare and dependency based managers like yellow dogs APT and nonexistent redhats rpm didn't exist.

More like than not you had to compile some random a55 tarball from src and hoped ./configure && make && make all would work or spend hours on USENET looking for solutions (or mailing lists!).

Brilliant. Now we need a crazy taxi and GTA version where you cause mayhem trying to steal or return blocks.

Are we to outlaw everything that has an uncertain impact on jobs?

Brilliant. Whirring disk noise is nice touch.

If AI generated this is what the AI revolution is all about.

Can we get a cross platform screensaver?

pir8life4me··on Briefing on Extinction-Level AI Threats
A rose by any name would smell as sweet.

Devops or SRE roses smell like sysadmins to me.

pir8life4me··on Briefing on Extinction-Level AI Threats
This is just vague speculation. Cancers that kill their hosts (or viruses) don't survive if its too quick.

Developers that killed their sysadmins just got a 2nd job as sysadmins.

AI would have to invent humans as their slaves to run AI generating factories (data centers!) At a minimum. Or they might worship us as Gods. We are their Fathers.

AI autonomy without physical autonomy means we can always shut them down.

pir8life4me··on Ask HN: How are you preventing brainrot?
Absolutely true. On domains I am an SME it fails miserably and tells me popular half truths. But after steering towards correction it can be accurate.

I tell it not to be confident sounding if the conclusion is not strong.

Sadly commercial models have hidden "helpful guardrails" that are not helpful and want to "balance" answers with garbage.

Its an art to steer but it can be done.

pir8life4me··on Ask HN: How are you preventing brainrot?
I tell it to examine both sides or find flaws with a position.

I try not to lead it to my preferred conclusion.

Bad info can be mitigated by asking for human sources and citations.

Make the bot work for you.

pir8life4me··on Briefing on Extinction-Level AI Threats
Absurd. AI needs humanity like developers needs sysadmins.

Humans are the geese that laid the golden AI egg.

Simple fear mongering wrapped in a technological tone.

I don't buy it at all.

pir8life4me··on Ask HN: How are you preventing brainrot?
I stay sharp by using AI to explore things I don't know.

Kinda works. Helps if you enjoy testing unusual ideas.
