It would be unjust—nay, it would be abusive if we didn't let bezos make this much
Older generations had different demographics, and white men are still in power from those generations... in no small part because they were the ones who were in the majority.
There remains a bit of blindness to the problems of non-white non-male persons among the 'ruling elites'... But these same cohort of leaders were pursuing a program of diversity, inclusion, and meritocracy over the last several decades.
To say white/male as default isn't a problem isn't exactly true (see, for example, how medical research has historically been conducted mostly on young white male volunteers), but to say that it isn't changing is also not exactly true -- demographics are changing in the US and the composition of institutions of power is also changing.
I suppose math departments, being 100% theory, ought to go too
I have no idea what you could possibly mean by this.
Do you want trade schools? Those exist.
My other cousin had a similar problem, his mom switched his school 3 times and in the end he wanted to go back to the first school. In the meantime, he fell way behind in his learning.
Seems like it might have been addressable earlier, but still. It's important to say out loud that such behavior isn't ok. Even that shallow level of accountability is often sorely missing.
What about gerrymandering?
I didn't eat a hamburger today!
What will move the needle:
Remove beef industry subsidy at every level of government, making beef as expensive as it really is. People will eat less beef and production will also go down.
What won't move the needle:
I walked to the store one time.
What will:
Creating more accessible, more frequent, and more pervasive public transportation, even for small towns.
City planning that doesn't require a car for most things.
Eliminating the government subsidy for fossil fuels -- which would make the price of fuel as high as it should be, which would cause less production and less demand.
I'm a fan of trying to take responsibility. I'm also a fan of not pissing into the wind.
