physicallyIllfr··on DraftKings is using AI to behaviorally target chronic gamblers
The fact that you think you incrementally lose but are a net winner indicates to me you're illinformed.

As someone with years of experience in this industry, only a fraction of a percent of gamblers actually meet this defination. But they all think they're net winners and write off losses as "incremental"

Yeah, and sometimes the things people want are addictive and ruin their lives.

We will be worse off for it. People just are losing the ability to read well. We are regressing as a species because of billionaire's thinking machines. A few companies are evolving while the rest of us become dependent.

Your intelligence and competencey are going to be 1:1 correlated to the quality and quantity of tokens a billionaire gives you access too (local, sure, they control the hardware markets as well).

Keep excercising your writing and reading muscles because it will definatley set you apart from the captive masses in the future.

If you think you're replacing people with $20 claude code subscriptions, I can't take you seriously. Also.. There are many many fullt featured data "rendering" libraries in existence, not sure why you needed an llm to provide 6k LOC for this.

For the thousandth time, not everything in software is toy webdev slop SaaS.

Damn, the singularity is chat bots that can write spaghetti code that compiles?

Very underwhelming.

I havent used an openAI product since GPT 3.5 or Anthropic since 4.5 or 4.6. Everyone around me using these SOTA models doesnt really get anything done. It seems like they just feel like they are productive, a psuedo productivity.

I write some code, spec a lot, and use fast models to fill in the middle. I outpreform everyone around me. Im not convinced these autonomous "swarms" or /goal are all that useful.

I notice the people using them become dumber by the month (spend tons) and the quality of their work declining (they're also losing their jobs in some cases).

And obviously the point of calling them rouge agents to offload the liability onto the agent. The number one economic value of agents will be offloading corporate liability. That's what they want to sell to enterprise, an algorithmic scapegoat.

Slot machine users argue about which machine pays better

Hint. You lose using either.

physicallyIllfr··on How to keep enjoying programming in a world of LLMs
You can also program by hand professionally. There's a reason why the handmade, luxery items are more valuable and desirable than the heavily manufactured counterpart.

1. Because they're genuinely better quality. Usually.

2. There's a human connection (way more important than people think. I.e commodity fetishism)

3. Less people can do it.

-- all of these properties will apply to software in the near future. The person that can hand code the thing an llm does poorly, or because an llm cant be trusted will be extremely valuable, especially as this category of people begins to shrink, as peoppe atrophy their skills with llms.

The rest of y'all are excited about handing over the value of your labor to some billionaires thinking machine because that same billionaire has convinced you that you're going to be able to create your own startup or something stupid.

Nah, you're going to become a (underpaid/poor) conveyor belt operator making mass manufactured slop. Some smart ones will become the swiss watchmakers of software. Rare and in demand.

physicallyIllfr··on How to keep enjoying programming in a world of LLMs
I repeat for the millionth time, not everything is web dev.
physicallyIllfr··on Plan mode is dead
Hence why the Anthropic employee is telling you to not use it and just aimlessly throw tokens at a wall. It'll eventually get you there, sure, and consume more tokens. This sounds absurd, but trust that Anthropic (and any large company) is hyper aware of how customer behavior impacts their revenue, and they certainly will try to steer you into behavior that increases revenue.

Also this is a way less removed process that I want nothing to do with. The more removed I am from the process the more I hate my job, get burned out and genuinely wish that Anthropic never existed.

Even if it could "just know" or infer my intent. It wouldnt be desirable.

Edit: Oh yeah its Boris, hes one or the most disengenous shovel sellers on earth right now.

Says who? OpenAI?
physicallyIllfr··on Revealing the details of how OpenAI agents hacked Hugging Face
No security expert Ive talked too believes this story, and nobody I know with PhDs in machine learning (many) believe it either, or are worried about LLMs doing anything scary on their own.

LLMs are stateless functions that have a 500k word input, and then output words. Somebody has to invoke those functions amd use them. The users are who we need to align, like gun owners. This is like blaming the gun for murdering your victim in court.

physicallyIllfr··on Revealing the details of how OpenAI agents hacked Hugging Face
No its not. They have no technical background 8/10 outside of cognitive science and sometimes authorship on a random ML paper. They are a marketing line item to create stigmas around llms and to create narratives that offload liability onto llms and not their users/creators.
physicallyIllfr··on Revealing the details of how OpenAI agents hacked Hugging Face
Why.. It was told to complete a cyber task, which was in alignment with its instructions, and a totally valid request. I would be more worried if it willingly hacked a hospital when it was told to, and Im not confident it would (without jailbreaking, something alignment teams cannot control.

I would bet my networth it was instructed to compromise huggingface as well. Not sure why everyone is falling for this.

Not being able to sleep at night is probably an unwritten job requirement. They need these people with little understanding of what they're working on, outsode theoretical terms, to spaz constantly at the idea of super intelligence to help convince the public that its a real thing, and not a stateless function with an effective input of 500k words, and the ability to output words that do things because we hook those outputs up to things.

Keep in mind alignment researchers tend to be in house philosophers on staff to create the illusion that this is a massive issue they're addressing. Usually they have minimal computer science background. They're apart or the marketing department.

physicallyIllfr··on Supreme Court permits states to use SAVE database for citizenship checks
Yeah its part corruption and the weaponized taboo of second guessing election results.

I'm convinced that even if there were large scale concerns about the legitimacy elections in the USA, they would quitely be puy to rest because God forbid we ever reckon with the fact yhat the USA might not be a perfect democracy, cant taint the image.

Anyone looking to tamper with elections now knows they can just equivalate anyone who challenges them with Jan 6ers types.

Tbf, democracy in this country is fundamentally broken when you have 4 companies that control the media and have a ton of control over how people see the world.

physicallyIllfr··on Ollaya – Ollama for open-source, Jev-style decision models
<<<"i was curious to see if i could train a competitive Jev-like model completely autonomously with a swarm of agents using our internal system."

Bro is writing off the H200 lol

On a sidenote I really can't stand the term "swarm" and definately plays into AI doomerism.

physicallyIllfr··on GitLab Outage
I dont think bots need bonus/trials. There are lots and lots of ways to get free, or virtually free tokens. Hell half the vibe coded AI chrome extensions send store their openrouter keys client side.

physicallyIllfr··on LinkedIn wins court order blocking mass scraping of user data
Linkedin data is very valuable. Tons of businesses are built on the back of scraping LinkedIn. Kknd of disappointing they won this case tbh, because it basically just gave corpos extereme privledge to ruin people's lives. They've been trying to get this outcome for years.
physicallyIllfr··on Mercury 2.5 LLM hits 770 tokens per second
I prefer a fast model too, but you cannot get more done just because its faster. You just get to the human parts a bit faster. Code review, revision ect.
physicallyIllfr··on Mercury 2.5 LLM hits 770 tokens per second
So 3x the code review lol. This is similar in concept to how a slot machine leta you choose 1x, 3x 6x lol
physicallyIllfr··on Mercury 2.5 LLM hits 770 tokens per second
Yeah, idk. I work on serious things. Thats not how I do things. Not everything is webdev hobby projects. There's basically no instance where offloading your code review to an llm is acceptable behavior, except maybe for a one off tool you need personally.
physicallyIllfr··on OpenAI agent hacked Australian government website, PM says
Im sure they didnt discover who it was and what they did for free.
physicallyIllfr··on Mercury 2.5 LLM hits 770 tokens per second
Lighting my codebase on fire at the speed of light. Like microwaving the spaghetti.

I genuinly only see these speeds being useful for customer service/transactional workflows. Of which much smaller models can do the job (but those dont make tons of money for companies like Cerebras that need to pay off massive amounts of debt).

Nobody needs to code at 600 words per second. Using a 100tps model for an hour or so will leave you with 4-8hrs of code review and revision work.

physicallyIllfr··on Claude discovers a novel enzyme system with CRISPR-like repeats
The infrastructure provisioning alone to train is heavily dependent on humans, as is dealing with failures (training runs fail a ton). Its not as simple as adding another ec2 on your dashboard. < 1k people in the world know how to do this, there will not be "recursive" or looped continual training for a long long long time. There are so many delicate inputs and controls. Not to mention the chains of businesses and the people required to operate them just to obtain the data needed, clean it and hand it to the llms.

The llms are supervising rlhf and creating synthetic data (to an extent) but they're nowhere close to being able to operate the full training stack end to end. This is a fantasy being sold to investors to create fomo.

Remember they're also limited by an effective memory of like 500k words a turn. Memory systems are lossy, so are swarm/sub agent mechanism. Im not worried about llms becoming self powered super entities anytime soon.

How is it improving, that would require rearranging its weights and biases which it cannot do easily or quickly.
