phito··on The emergence and diversification of dog morphology
What do you mean its natural social life? Dogs are not wolves. Their natural social life is being with humans.
phito··on GPT-5.1: A smarter, more conversational ChatGPT
In claude code you should use Planning mode
phito··on Meta replaces WhatsApp for Windows with web wrapper
They probably reused their Windows search engine :)
phito··on Zed is our office
I was very surprised to find a "forum" integrated in Zed when I first opened it. But to be honest, it is not something I ever felt the need for and overall I don't like having this in my text editor. So far it never got in my way and that's a good thing, I hope it stays that way :)
phito··on .NET 10
Still better than bringing JavaScript to the back end shudders
phito··on Meta replaces WhatsApp for Windows with web wrapper
From what I've seen web devs spend a huge portion of their time upgrading their dependencies, fighting with frameworks (they all curse react), or moving to the latest cool bundler.
phito··on .NET 10
I have a much better dev experience on Linux/Rider than on Windows/VS.
phito··on .NET 10
OpenAPI and client generators solve this issue easily.
phito··on .NET MAUI is coming to Linux and the browser
I sure never will write a single line of JS/TS again now that Blazor exists and is stable.
phito··on I hate screenshots of text
It's so bad in teams and they put a rather small character limit on it....
phito··on Humanity's Endgame
It means pretty much nothing here on HN, lots of people were using it before LLMs. However, people constantly pointing it out is getting tiresome.
phito··on 'No idea who he is', says Trump after pardoning crypto tycoon
That's indeed what I meant. English is not my native language so I probably could have worded that better.
phito··on 'No idea who he is', says Trump after pardoning crypto tycoon
Please stop telling me to stop saying things that I did not say. The word "all" is not even in my comment.
phito··on 'No idea who he is', says Trump after pardoning crypto tycoon
If you watch any video of politicians being confronted to something bad they did, they will almost always say "I don't know anything about it". It's a bad faith strategy but it works if they're never held accountable of anything.
phito··on Facts about throwing good parties
1. Maybe it's a cultural thing but it sounds like hell on earth to me. I'd be the one complaining and probably will not show up to the next party ...
phito··on We reduced a container image from 800GB to 2GB
I feel like I'm having a LLM fever dream
phito··on You can't turn off Copilot in the web versions of Word, Excel, or PowerPoint
I dread every time I have to open OneDrive or SharePoint to find a file. How can they manage to make a file browsing app SO bad?! Same with teams.
phito··on The next chapter of the Microsoft–OpenAI partnership
Wow that is so dumb. Can these addicts think about anything else than profits?
phito··on The new calculus of AI-based coding
> Now we'll have code that the devs don't even know what it's doing internally.

Haha, that already happens in almost any project after 2-3 years.

phito··on Study finds growing social circles may fuel polarization
Wow that sounds like an awful definition. People get influenced by random comments online...
phito··on Microsoft disables File Explorer preview for downloaded files by default
Interesting, thanks
phito··on We saved $500k per year by rolling our own "S3"
It just makes everything sound bland and soulless. You don't know which part of the message actually comes from the user's brain and which part has been added/suggested by the LLM. The latter is not an original thought and it would be disingenuous to include it, but people do because it makes them look smarter. Meanwhile, on the other side, you might as well be talking to a LLM...
phito··on Microsoft disables File Explorer preview for downloaded files by default
So they keep extra file metadata god-knows-where to flag internet downloaded files, to disable their preview because their preview sucks and is insecure? How about they make their preview, I don't know, just render local documents without following URLs?

What a shit OS. I can't believe there are still so many tech oriented people willing to put up with this crap just to keep their habits.

phito··on French ex-president Sarkozy begins jail sentence
Also we don't make reality TV shows (disguised as "news") about it.
phito··on Ask HN: What are people doing to get off of VMware?
We are moving to proxmox
phito··on Free software hasn't won
In that better FOSS world, there would be no DRM nonsense. DRM complicates everything because it is a nonsense.
phito··on More random home lab things I've recently learned
Just as easy with VMs, just have to pass the device to the VM
phito··on Environment variables are a legacy mess: Let's dive deep into them
They're the standard for Docker container configuration tho. Otherwise I do agree.
phito··on Free software hasn't won
Free as in Freedom not as in free beer.
phito··on Free software hasn't won
> and have to deal with low quality video because their FOSS tech stack doesn’t pass the DRM sniff test with flying colors

They shouldn't have to if the software is properly made. I am not talking about teaching normies to install Docker apps, but teaching them why FOSS is important and the implications of using corporate-owned tools.
