phillipseamore··on Gemini 3.5 Flash Booking a Holiday End to End Using Fu Web Skill [video]
Only took 29 minutes!
phillipseamore··on Can a $1,500 Battery Replace a Powerwall? [video]
Have a hard time trusting products like these when they don't have European versions, they either can't make the regulatory requirements (which for something like this is to prevent damage to property and life) or they likely won't be sticking around since why else would they ignore such a large market (the guy takes a stab at Ecoflow, but keep in mind that the US market is just 40% of Ecoflow revenue).
phillipseamore··on UK Rape Gang Inquiry Report
Footer: "Not affiliated with His Majesty's Government, the Inquiry team, or any political party."
phillipseamore··on Map Clustering Is Not My Favorite
If clustering is acceptable the visualization probably shouldn't be a map.
phillipseamore··on Caddy compatibility for zeroserve: 3x throughput and 70% lower latency
Why? It's one of the most optimized HTTP servers ever. Anything that claims beating nginx in benchmarks should be treated with high suspicion. I think these zeroserve numbers are likely accurate but it doesn't have the features and module ecosystem of nginx so the margins aren't worth it for me.
phillipseamore··on Map Clustering Is Not My Favorite
Clustering is only asked for by someone that has no interest in or understanding of the data.
phillipseamore··on Leaker says new MacBook '100% confirmed' to get touchscreen
Important for debug/testing in simulators as well if a user doesn't have the device.
phillipseamore··on The State of Ship Quality: We Audited Every YC W26 Website
This needs an additional metric of CPU and memory usage after load with many of these horrible AI coded sites with endless shaders, infinite loops and pulling in 30 external scripts.
phillipseamore··on Ireland paid artists a basic income and it was a boost for the economy
The Nordic countries have had artist's salaries since the 1950's, many countries have subsidies or funding for various arts on a project by project basis. All considered to be worth more than they cost.
phillipseamore··on Ask HN: I made an image watermarking tool. What are the issues open-sourcing it?
Watermarking is for fools. Those doing the generation and watermarking will control what is perceived as false or true. Watermarks have historically been about proof of ownership or origin. Watermarking fake creations works in reverse, all of a sudden what's void of watermarking is true, but those that control the watermarking can either add them to truths to turn them into fakes or skip watermarking for certain people or organizations, making their fake creations become truths.
phillipseamore··on The Sandbaggers (1978 – 80) Complete Series
Been a while but remember it as a fine series.
phillipseamore··on Cloudflare CEO is lying to you about the bot traffic jump
All traffic includes stylesheets, JS, images and so on that your typical browser will faithfully retrieve to render a page but most bots or scrapers will ignore some or all of them.
phillipseamore··on What Dot.com Bandwidth Taught Me About the AI Token Cost Panic
Bandwidth usage isn't bound to power cost, e.g. a 10x increase in BW between NY and LA doesn't use 10x more power or likely even increase running costs outside of what could be called noise. Token generation however is more or less tied to power costs. There is nothing comparable between the .COM and AI bubbles and the likely outcomes.
phillipseamore··on Show HN: Laravel Octane Benchmark (Swoole, RoadRunner, FrankenPHP)
nginx+fpm should beat FrankenPHP when actually configured. Socket instead of TCP to FPM, upping nginx limits from the default max 1024 sessions pr. worker, fastcgi_keep_conn etc.
phillipseamore··on Eona – Deep Time Clock
Crashed my browser on load!
phillipseamore··on Cold Start DNS
I've spoken to CF about that all the way up to VP levels, not likely to happen (available to enterprise customers).

Some DNS service providers allow whitelabeling, e.g. you create ns[0-4].yourdomain.de as the NS records.

phillipseamore··on Patients hospitalized with depression in brighter rooms were discharged twice
https://karger.com/nps/article/74/4/193/233873/Depressed-Pat...

Very unimpressive study. Patients were allocated to the next empty room but they end up with 18 patients in "long stay" NW rooms and 11 in "discharged earlier" SE rooms. Patients in rooms facing the sun do draw the curtains.

phillipseamore··on Decentralized Medical Records
FFS this all falls apart in an emergent situation. Tattoo the PKS on your ass (or whatever part you wouldn't normally leave exposed in public).
phillipseamore··on 3000 tokens/sec LLM playground
What am I missing? It can't even list countries in NATO correctly, chatjimmy.ai can do that and output 17000 tokens/sec on cheaper silicon.
phillipseamore··on Do more Europeans die of summer heat than Americans die of guns?
This again, truth is US lacks good data on death from heat.

phillipseamore··on State of AI in design – 2026 report
Site uses up to 2 cores at 100% and 392MB RAM, so State of AI in design probably bad?
phillipseamore··on Font licensing is about to change
I wouldn't say the examples there are usable.
phillipseamore··on Safari and Firefox change how big sites render based on the domain
That HN exception from text autosizing shows very well that most of these quirks have nothing to do with Chrome.
phillipseamore··on Show HN: Forecasting my backyard weather with a 22M time-series model
I wouldn't trust anyone that thinks planting a PWS in a flower bed can be used as a source of truth or even as comparison to offical WS which are used for the calibration of models. Just the difference of measuring wind at under 1m and next to flowers and bushes against at the standard 10m above ground...
phillipseamore··on [dead]
.. and what's Enclave?
phillipseamore··on Safari and Firefox change how big sites render based on the domain
If Safari and Firefox had the exact same lists of sites and fixes I might agree, but they don't.
phillipseamore··on Cloudflare Pages is down in Spain
They are always trying more. Final match of the day, Real Sociedad vs Real Betis is over in about 80-85 minutes so see what changes after that.
phillipseamore··on Cloudflare Pages is down in Spain
Problem supplied to you by LaLiga
phillipseamore··on Utah data center: Projected daily heat equivalent to 23 atomic bombs
I would have gone with "Utah datacenter power use equivalent to 16 Back to the Future DeLorean's".

What is the standard "atomic bomb" unit these days?

phillipseamore··on It's always DNS: Denic says sorry for crashing Germany's internet
"whereby a website can be brought offline by a registry’s failure" ain't limited to DNSSEC
