philip142au··on How is NSA breaking so much crypto? (2015)
If I go to the NSA website it says "How We Protect the Nation" - So I infer that they do some work to protect something, but the US government was hacked "5.6 million fingerprints stolen in U.S. personnel data hack" https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/sep/23/us-govern...

The Democrat and Republican computers recently hacked, you will say they are not specifically government since they are political parties.

Many more US government hacks and leaks on a large scale I don't need to list.

So I assume from your answer that they are tasked at protecting USA government assets, but it seems they don't do a good job.

philip142au··on How is NSA breaking so much crypto? (2015)
Just a question, what does the NSA to do protect security with so many USA institutions hacked in recent years?
philip142au··on Why a Post-Nuclear World Would Look Nothing Like “Mad Max”
This hasn't been thought through enough, with nuclear reactors not maintained by people they will melt-down and pour out lots of radiation on top of that produced by the bombs. A lot of life will be destroyed.
philip142au··on Barely Half of 30-Year-Olds in the U.S. Earn More Than Their Parents Did at 30
This statement means that they earn the same as their parents, right?
philip142au··on Let's Colonize Titan
The amount of industrial equipment you would need to get there to extract ice, warm it to water, split and then burn oxygen with hydrocarbons and get enough useful energy, even if you can get enough useful energy, it would be more like a small factory. You may as well have a nuclear reactor on Mars.
philip142au··on Let's Colonize Titan
Clearly without oxygen you can't burn those hydrocarbons. Where do you get the oxygen from? Its like having a planet full of fuel and nothing to burn with.

Fuel cell technology needs oxygen.

philip142au··on Let's Colonize Titan
This article has no good reasons for Titan, it doesn't discuss water, it doesn't discuss energy or how to grow food. It says that because you can fly there and there are dunes and a liquid surface in some places its like Earth, but that doesn't help us to survive at all.

To survive we need water, food and energy. How are we going to get that from Titan as opposed to Mars?

Why can't you just wrap your drone in aluminium foil around the outside - I don't mean the top and bottom, you need the top and bottom open for air flow.

Wouldn't aluminium foil stop that microwave?

philip142au··on Microsoft Cognitive Services
I would pay money to buy a image to text software (text recognition) if it was as good as Microsoft's and I could run it batch on my images.
philip142au··on Charles 4
So, the title doesn't tell me what it is, I click on the link and it doesn't tell me what it is, its a lot of work to know what it is in a universe of applications.
philip142au··on Why Russia Keeps Getting Away with Hacking America
It would be better to tighten security and prevent such activity, than to accuse any state actor, accusing a state actor, I would guess, gives them more power in political negotiations.

As far as I understand, its mostly impossible to be certain who did what in hacking since the location doesn't really determine who it is.

philip142au··on Don't replace people, augment them
Really, why not replace them? Its inevitable they will be replaced, the company which does replace humans at a low cost will beat the one with humans in it.
philip142au··on UK gov says new Home Sec will have powers to ban end-to-end encryption
Its unlikely that this would stop any terrorism, banning something such as drugs doesn't make the drugs go away.

Banning a form of communication doesn't prevent people from communicating. People can still communicate by unusual methods, and knowing that their communications can be "over-heard" they can make stronger attempts to keep the symbols by which they communicate secret.

philip142au··on Genetic evidence for natural selection in humans in the contemporary USA
Its just a hypothesis (guess) in a thread in a comment on the internets, its not a paper ! lol
philip142au··on VR Will Revolutionize Education
I'd like to see a human programming language, the VR headset is placed on humans and the human is programmed by the computer to learn certain things, to produce certain outputs based upon certain inputs, like the Vulcan learning school https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvMxLpce3Xw

Then we have lots of programmed humans. Actually, its a very bad idea.

philip142au··on Genetic evidence for natural selection in humans in the contemporary USA
Here's an idea about natural selection, we had two world wars, during the wars the fit and healthy brave people went, the cowards hid and stayed at home.

The cowards survived to live another day, so cowardice and unfit individuals are selected for breeding, giving us the people of today.

philip142au··on Home Computers Connected to the Internet Aren't Private, Court Rules
By the same reasoning, computers in corporate businesses connected to the internet have no expectation of privacy.
philip142au··on Quantum Nonlocality, and the End of Classical Spacetime [pdf]
How can things be correlated? what is correlation if there is no causation, I feel confused about that ... as your The "Spooky action at a distance" is just correlation.

philip142au··on UK surveillance powers bill could force startups to bake in backdoors
So simply if someone hacks into that startup company they can use all those backdoors to spy on what the government employees do with their phones.

People need to think of the consequences of getting what you want.
