pgr··on Ask HN: Do you have a side project you want to sell?
http://errorlevelanalysis.com was a side project of mine that ballooned out to modest popularity (100k+ monthly uniques), although it was something that I never charged for.

It's something that I decided I don't have time for myself, but perhaps it could suit someone else.

pgr··on Need a Job? Build Something Cool.
I did go down this path with http://www.errorlevelanalysis.com/, hoping that the development time would pay off and bring in future work. So far it's just been a tool that reddit and 4chan use to spur on comment wars.

Building something cool that has actual utility to someone, may be a better strategy.

You mentioned you were looking for people to work with around uni?

I imagine your uni exams are drawing to a close soon; if you're up for a drink in the sydney area, let me know. My contact inforamtion is in my profile.

pgr··on Hello productivity
For when you get back from your self imposed exile: In future, try using 66.135.33.106 (from: http://www.marco.org/244246945)

More user friendly.

pgr··on Australian ISP filtering policy is not evidence-based
A well written article.

From my understanding, it is largely Senator Conroy who is trying push this through (for reasons I cannot fathom). It has been noted that if the current Australian government were to be replaced by the opposition, the Minister for Communications would have to be replaced. Helen Coonan (the past Liberal Senator responsible for it) was also in charge of implementing a filtering scheme - http://www.netalert.gov.au/ (The state of that link will inform you how successful that was.)

I'm uncertain whether replacing Conroy would curb internet filtering in Australia, or merely change it's focus once more.

Wow, that's great - how did you go about getting daylight saving time to work properly?

This seems to be from the guys over at http://informationarchitects.jp/ - which explains the heavily typographic layout.

I actually think it would be fantastic as a daily email round.

pgr··on [Tell HN]: I built a web app for image forensic analysis. Thoughts?
Sure, here is a link: http://errorlevelanalysis.com/source/

Oh, cool. I'd seen that before but I was unaware that the source code had been posted. Thank you for the link.

I'm a fourth year mechanical engineer located in Sydney, Australia. I like making things, either code based (eg, python, django, matlab) or mechanical based (eg, suspension systems). For any questions, reach me at p.ringwood@gmail.com.

Even though news.yc has a large slant on the northern hemisphere, I'm interested to see if there is much going in the southern hemisphere.
