This was also a public health system (Spain), but I guess it might depend on the country.

Now that you mentions labs, he spent the last 10 years of his career (maybe more, I don't remember clearly) working at a food analysis lab and there was a lot of waiting for results there, but it is what it is, microorganisms take their time to grow and no LLM in the world can make them go faster.

pezezin··on The Kuycon P20 – 28" 4500x3000px 3:2 monitor
Talking about unusual monitor aspect ratios, what I would really want is a 3840x2400 monitor. 1920x1200 is somewhat common and easy to find, but 2400p is only available on a few laptops.

Why 2400p? Because it is the LCM of 400, 480 and 600, so it would allow perfect integer rescaling of my favourite MS-DOS and early Windows games.

My dad is a retired nurse. Most of his work was giving shots, treating wounds, extracting blood, putting IV catheters, etc. In other words, physical tasks. How is an "AI agent" or LLM going to take care of that?
pezezin··on Please don't rearrange our shoes when we turn up, paramedics in Japan urge
According to my Japanese GF, the elders don't understand it either. She had to setup some banking services for her dad and it was a painful mess, but doing it in person is equally annoying. So at this point it is a fucking mystery who actually likes the system and why nobody tries to change anything.
pezezin··on Please don't rearrange our shoes when we turn up, paramedics in Japan urge
> neat and tidy compared to cluttered

People who think this have actually never been to Japan, most Japanese homes and offices are incredibly messy.

pezezin··on Falsehoods Programmers Believe About LANs
At work I manage a network with two DHCP servers. One is a dnsmasq that assigns the IP address, hostname, and basic network parameters to all network devices, and the other is a LTSP server (https://ltsp.org/) that provides network boot images only for certain devices that require it. It might not look pretty, but it works really well.
pezezin··on Casey Muratori – The Root of the Root of All Evil – BSC 2026 [video]
Honest question, but what is the benefit of Bink over standard codecs like H.264/265 or AV1? Specially nowadays that every GPU provides hardware-accelerated video decoding...

Ok, you can go to the ODVA and tell them.

pezezin··on It takes 5 cloud services to hear my doorbell
As a guy living in Japan who gets to hear those chimes every day, I loved the website, thank you for the link :)
pezezin··on Transfer files over an Ethernet patch cable
Yeah, and it can also mean Intellectual Property.

But "Ethernet/IP" is not just "two letters", is a trademarked brand.

pezezin··on Transfer files over an Ethernet patch cable
I don't remember how it happened, but I have seen faulty Ethernet devices suffering a power surge that burned the switch port they were connected to, so be careful.
pezezin··on Transfer files over an Ethernet patch cable
FYI, EtherNet/IP is an industrial control protocol, not TCP/IP over Ethernet. Yes, that is the real name of the protocol, a more confusing name could not have been chosen...

pezezin··on Transfer files over an Ethernet patch cable
Gigabit Ethernet sends and receive over the 4 pairs simultaneously using echo cancellation, so it doesn't need crossover cables.
pezezin··on Transfer files over an Ethernet patch cable
Gigabit Ethernet doesn't need to detect anything because it sends and receive over the 4 pairs simultaneously using echo cancellation.

You are off by 6 orders of magnitude, GPS time is accurate to within 30 ns: https://www.gps.gov/gps-accuracy

pezezin··on IBM Unveils Next Generation Dual-Architecture Processor for IBM Z and LinuxONE
The funny thing is that Fujitsu has a sizable enterprise IT business, and their Primergy servers are very good, so why don't they offer their own ARM CPUs?
pezezin··on MartyPC is a cross-platform emulator of early PCs written in Rust
Did you see any toxic Rust fan in this whole post? Because I didn't see any, but I saw several comments like yours.
pezezin··on IBM Unveils Next Generation Dual-Architecture Processor for IBM Z and LinuxONE
Fujitsu is developing new ARM based CPUs called Monaka, but their focus seems to be HPC and AI, no mention of "normal" servers
pezezin··on IBM Unveils Next Generation Dual-Architecture Processor for IBM Z and LinuxONE
I found this article with the diagram that you mention: https://wccftech.com/ibm-worlds-first-dual-architecture-proc...

The diagram is the last picture, and according to it you choose the ISA at the VM level: either Linux on s390x or Linux on arm64, but not both on the same VM.

pezezin··on MartyPC is a cross-platform emulator of early PCs written in Rust
But it is true, you see way more comments complaining about "the toxic Rust community" than said toxic community itself. At some point it just becomes annoying and tiring...
pezezin··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
> If Europeans don’t care about democracy in Taiwan maybe we shouldn’t either.

The USA has a long history of organizing coup d'états on democratic governments to prop up their own dictators. Let's be honest here, you guys don't care about Taiwanese democracy, only about keeping TSMC running.

It does. A few months ago I bought a F-91W for the nostalgia, but I have a hard time wearing it due to the tiny strap. I just ordered a bigger one strap, let's see how it works.

pezezin··on Apple announces changes for apps in the European Union
Glad to see I am not the only one. Many years ago I had a laptop with a pointing stick, aka "the clit", and that was surprisingly easy to use. But touchpads? No matter how fancy and expensive you make them, they will always be a bad interface.
