petitmiam··on A new vehicle interface
I do like that it tries to address the problem of phones advancing during the lifespan of the car. The hardware would have to be generic enough though, that it can be useful and adaptable in the long term.

I'm not sure if it's feasible though. to use Android as an example, not every Android ever released can run jellybean. It still requires newer hardware at some point.

petitmiam··on 17 Year Old Builds a Better Search Engine
If this were true, wouldn't we all still be using IE?
petitmiam··on EFF, Reddit, Mozilla, others launch Internet Defense League and Cat Signal
It's a shame non-US residents would have to set up something locally.

I had hoped for a truly global 'Internet Defense League', which then could have smaller branches for country/region specific issues.

petitmiam··on EFF, Reddit, Mozilla, others launch Internet Defense League and Cat Signal
This reminded me of Anonymous rallying the troops for some LOIC action.

I think the Internet Defense League has got it right.

Is the Internet Defense League just an American thing?

but everyone hates firefox updates: http://www.forbes.com/sites/adriankingsleyhughes/2012/07/10/... ;)

I agree though, anything to push desktop browser technologies to a mobile platform faster is a great thing.

petitmiam··on Advice for Marissa Mayer from an ex-Yahoo
I agree. Yahoo Answers has huge potential to be a StackExchange for the masses.

Maybe they enjoy the work they do, despite the poisonous culture. If you put time and effort into something and believe in it, then as a 'self-respecting' person you probably wouldn't jump ship that easy.

YUI makes my life easier.

petitmiam··on How I converted a software thief into a customer
I wonder if the customer will now share the coupon code.
petitmiam··on Two men wrote the original Adobe Flash in 1993 - where are they now?
It's interesting, but a shame the article doesn't go deeper. They looked up a guys LinkedIn page and grabbed a paragraph from a 2 year old article about the other guy.

I'd love to know why Jonathan Gay made the switch to small business in agriculture.

petitmiam··on Physical assault by McDonald's for wearing Digital Eye Glass
I love eating fast food in other countries. It's always different from home and that fascinates me.

Sure, I'm much more keen to enjoy 'proper' food from the country I'm visiting, but there's still a place for experiencing fast food.

"I also contacted the Embassy, Consulate, Police, etc., without much luck."

He said he already tried getting law enforcement involved.

Maybe he plans to use lawyers as a last ditch effort, if his internet plea doesn't work? I would think it's a bit extreme to involve them first before trying to just settle things with McDonalds directly.

petitmiam··on Kate Middleton’s Wedding Gown Demonstrates Wikipedia’s Woman Problem
I'd love to see that study. For some reason the idea of anonymous people writing bits and pieces, makes me like Wikipedia more.
petitmiam··on Survivor: Remaking A Commodore 64 Game In HTML
This is a great insight into the development process, without going too far into any boring details. It's great when people take the time to write this sort of thing up and share.
petitmiam··on Why I Will Never Have a Girlfriend
Seeing as it's now many years on, I'd like to see a follow up on this. Is the guy now happily married?

petitmiam··on HTC wins swipe to unlock patent dispute against Apple
In tennis and cricket, you get a set amount of challenges. Once you've used them up, you can't make any more.

Could the courts implement something similar for patent disputes?

petitmiam··on Facebook's e-mail debacle: One 'bug' fix, but rollback impossible
I don't have the entire Facebook userbase added as a friend, but I haven't seen a single post on my newsfeed about this problem. Yet every second day I see posts about how much someone hates Timeline.
petitmiam··on Facebook's e-mail debacle: One 'bug' fix, but rollback impossible
I wish I could go back in time and do this.

petitmiam··on Facebook forces all users over to Facebook.com e-mail addresses
I just wonder how many millions of messages that have gone unnoticed. I've seen a few articles written, alerting people to it's existence, but it's not like people are searching for articles on things they don't know exist.

petitmiam··on This page crashes Internet Explorer, even version 9 and 10.
At uni in a software testing subject I was given an assignment to read various input files (some valid, some invalid). If your program crashes, you would get 0 marks. It made for a stressful assignment execution day, but it was a good lesson.
petitmiam··on I introduced my 5yo and 2yo to startx and xmonad. They’re delighted.
I think it was so the teacher could write comments on the pages more easily. That was 10 years ago though, so I'm not sure if students still have to hand in printed hard copies?
petitmiam··on This teenager is hot property in Silicon Valley
Did you aim for the sky right from the beginning?

I guess you either had great people around you who told you you could do anything, or you just ignored the ones who said you couldn't.
