petesmithy··on Songkick Aims To Make A Database Of Every Concert Ever
it feels good to be out there!
petesmithy··on Ask HN: you're rich, now what?
"Most of Europe is simply too crowded and expensive to be attractive to the average North American."

petesmithy··on Songkick’s concert recommendation engine: It goes to 11
Like most problems, when you scratch the surface, it becomes clear how deep you could dig.. We took funding to give us the time to solve these technical challenges.

With 1 million active bands currently on MySpace, the challenge simply to get the database of all concerts is huge. And that's before we even start on the discovery piece to connect fans to these gigs..

Rob,

You definitely can track more than three - the article is referring to the initial homepage where anyone can just get started finding a show by typing in three bands.

Use the plugins, or even begin adding bands manually to the Tour Tracker, and you can track as many artists as you like.

One user is tracking over 4000 artists right now. I'm tracking a more modest 477..

petesmithy··on Ask YC: If you could buy any company in the world who would it be and why?
I agree! There's something really sinister about that Willie Wonka-land campus in CA..

brave new world..? can't put my finger on it, but it's a weird place!

petesmithy··on Ask YC: Who is a founder?
"I am the Co-founder of a growing company" is fine. You really don't need to get hung up on this.

Call her Queen Amidala if it'll let you get back to creating value. Sounds like you've got a well-balanced team, an idea you all believe in, everyone's happy with their shareholdings - move on!!

How would companies in Europe go about finding new team members from Asia? What would you recommend?
petesmithy··on Market price for developers at startups?
that's reasonable equity, and the salary shouldn't be too much of an issue so long as it's market or near-market. i feel like anyone working for a pre-revenue but funded startup (i.e. one with a finite runway) shouldn't have a problem taking a below-market-rate salary if they're happy with the stock they're getting, because of course if the money runs out too soon a bit of extra money in the savings account isn't much reward for the months / years of startup hours..
petesmithy··on Ask YC: what laptop to buy?
I could not recommend my laptop enough - Samsung Q35.

There's now a Q35 Pro (http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3512&re...)

And there's a newer model, the Samsung Q45 (http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3869).

I get 3-4 hours battery out of it, I really like the display, the spec is good, and it's really light and robust.

Yeah sorry rokhayakebe you're way off. Try following your own advice if you like but good luck pal!

E2 sounds even better than I thought then..

This just proves how difficult it is to cut to the truth..

petesmithy··on Good luck on demo day, guys!

petesmithy··on How do you write a "terms of use" for a website?
Sorry rkabir, but I think what Guy's talking about is the legal work that goes into the negotiation of an investment, takeover or IPO.

For a bootstrapped start-up, getting a lawyer to write your ToS and Privacy Policy would be wasteful.

epi0Bauqu you've nailed it: who's got "an issue that facebook/craigslist/ebay/microsoft/amazon/etc. don't?"
