But logs don't count as the transactional data that needs to be kept for legal reasons.

From a GDPR perspective, it also covers logs, internal training data etc. If a user requires to be deleted, you have to delete everything, there can be no trace of their existence.

That's a very weak reason not to use the messenger. You're confirming that if you want to create a good app, you should not listen to complaining users.

Judging by your comments you're not going to use the app period. You can just say so instead of creating artificial reasons which don't hold true for you anyways.

You can use the await keyword multiple times, and therefore make it easier to handle the error with try catch:
