pests··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
Deepseek plugins* all the way down. It should be easy to add support for this.

Using this interesting framework called Cordis I've recent discovered.

pests··on When did Google get so weird?
Even before AI you could search a phrase from a less than hour old HN thread and see it in the top 5 results already.

Google has been actively scanning the web within minutes for decades now, surely this isn't that shocking? Even sitemaps, which google invented, have a field for change frequency.

After growing up for decades in Michigan and seeing the surrounding Great Lakes regularly, the oceans were a bit disappointing. Besides the salt. I knew it was salty but I wasn't expecting pickle juice.

Do tell, cause I run the "ChatGPT" program on Windows to use both the normal Chat and Codex (side menu items). I think its a more recent change.

pests··on I think the military commissary's freezers were hacked
To try to guess at a plausible answer, any monitoring / remote management stemmed from wanting to keep an eye on temps over time. Freezers can go out of temp for only so long before its all bad.

Tada. It saves someone from making the rounds with a clipboard and writing down temps every X hours.

I agree its unneeded, just I can see the thought process.

pests··on Cores in space: The core memory module from a 1980 Spacelab computer
The current coincidence is used to select a specific bit / core. Except it selects the same bit in every bank.

Bytes or larger words are made by stacking multiple banks together (18 in the articles case) All 18 bits would be driven in parallel by the driver over the X/Y wires to produce a coherent 18 bit value at the same moment.

The inhibit bit was so you could select which of those 18 bits (in separate banks) would be switched back to a 1, not selecting which bit across the entire bank.

Yes, same with openclaw etc. Some might have plugins to integrate with graph or vector databases besides only markdown files.

pests··on Stripe said to abandon $50B pursuit of PayPal
Technically yes, because Zelle is just the frontend, but banks can settle between themselves via ACH if they don't have another arrangement or a RTP (real time payment) setup.

To answer the original question, because Zelle is ran by a consortium of banks, they all trust each other enough to release funds immediately and settle up overnight if need be.

pests··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
New commenter here, and I understand your arguments you've made in this thread, but it's like asking what is the waste of a waterfall? The math you're doing would say add up how much energy could have been extracted and compare it to equivalent generation in coal or similar. The water, even spent on the locks, goes to the ocean anyways.

> “why app slow” obviously doesn’t work because the task is underspecified

Definitely not true and like everyone else is saying, shows how people still underestimate these models.

I have been working on a simple vite + react app lately and commonly ask Gemini/Antigravity to just "improve speeds", "x is running slow, check it out" and have no complaints.

pests··on OpenRouter is joining Stripe
I think you are reading too much into the "fungible" term.

No one is talking about trading tokens.

The idea being that getting your tokens from Provider A is no different than Provider B, especially if they both offer the same model. You can change one value in a request to openrouter and suddenly be hitting a different provider but offering the same tokens, because they offer the same model and the same settings.

pests··on OpenRouter is joining Stripe
> The difference matters quite a lot.

Please go on as I do not get your point.

pests··on OpenRouter is joining Stripe
Not OP, but I could see the vision. Right now OpenRouter is developer-paid with no way to pass costs onto the end user. Stripe could help bill and meter at the user level for per-user billing. I would also think more SDKs/easier ways to add AI features (paid for via openrouter) into apps and websites.
pests··on Gemini 3.7 Flash
Gemini is the model family.

Antigravity is their agentic coding app / IDE. There is two products, one is chat-only the other is more standard IDE.

Google AI Studio is a consumer/developer playground with a in-browser IDE meant for prototypes or demos, there is a gallery of demos etc. Easily shared, easy key access.

Vertex is the AI offering from the GCP side of the company, that is going to target more enterprise or business solutions (scaling, data governance, security, production deployents, etc)

pests··on Radical Study Suggests Life on Earth Arose Twice
I think that is saying something else. It says "battle" not "discussion" or "conversation".

Then if religion is going to be lumped under "ideological battle", what about politics, culture, economics, and other "ideological" topics?

The comment you replied to wasn't even religious. There was a claim that "loving creator" name was invented by people outside the bible, and a claim that theistic evolution is a wide enough belief, esp with Protestants.

I'm not even religious, but those weren't even religious points. Its the difference between "bible history" (history as told by the bible), and "history of the bible" (history of how the bible itself).

pests··on Radical Study Suggests Life on Earth Arose Twice
The guidelines do not mention religion a single time. What are you talking about?

> As part of the strategy, discarded oyster shells from over 70 New York restaurants are collected and left outside for a year to be naturally cleansed of organic matter. Baby oysters are then placed on the shells by students at New York Harbor School, a maritime-focused public high school located on Governors Island. [10]
