peoplenotbots··on Speculation: Michael Seibel (YC/twitch) is running for office [video]
THE TLDR from the podcast:

....the reddit CEO said "all the good people we know will do something in public service/run for office." "my wife said I should give back to city of SF some how..." "I have a big decision."

And he non-named how most start founders want the wrong thing from local politics.

I met Seibel once and he was the nicest person I ever met formally associated with the big orange YC.

peoplenotbots··on Arcana – Native Advertising Platform Built for GenAI Applications
Hi hackernews;

My friend and I built Arcana (https://github.com/arcana-ad) to solve the critical monetization challenge facing GenAI developers today.

While GenAI applications are seeing explosive adoption, developers struggle with a fundamental problem: traditional ad models destroy the user experience in AI-generated content.

Our solution: ●AI-based contextual analysis that understands the intent of AI-generated content ●Seamless integration of our Codex SDK into your stack in less than 5 minutes ●Non-disruptive, native ads that feel like a natural extension of AI interactions ●A revenue-sharing model with no monthly fees for Publishers

We've already onboarded 8 publishers with 150+ advertisements in our network, and over 50 developers have scheduled integration meetings in just two weeks.

If you're building in the GenAI space and looking for sustainable revenue without compromising user experience, I'd love to connect. We're particularly interested in feedback from the HN community on our approach to privacy-first, contextual advertising.

thanks Hackernews longtime reader first time poster

peoplenotbots··on Supreme Court upholds TikTok ban, but Trump might offer lifeline
There are such products. Outside of America whatsapp is a dominant social app but its use internally is almost mute despite being an american social app.

Tiktok america is over 50% of tiktok revenue I think that more than anything else would choke out growth world wide.

peoplenotbots··on The man who killed Google Search?
Long long time ago; youtube "staff" would manually put certain videos on the top of the front page when they started. Im sure there we're biases and prioritization of marketing dollars but at least there was human recommending it compared to poorly recorded early family guy clips. I dont know when they stopped manually adding "editors/staff" choice videos but I recall some of my favorite early youtubers like CGPGgrey claim that recommendation built the career.

peoplenotbots··on Google Chrome will limit ad blockers starting June 2024
If you're a duel monitor nerd it feels required if you want to do something besides internet surf on one monitor and stream something on other.

I dont have the most powerful computer but if I want to play baldurs gate 3 on one monitor while stream something on the other monitor it has to be in firefox over chrome.

peoplenotbots··on Google Chrome will limit ad blockers starting June 2024
Business wise makes sense google's cashflow is based on shoveling mostly shitty ads at people and youtube allows people to self select for more profitable ads.

Longterm will continue to harm google's product of search and youtube media products as it will motivate some people to figure out more ways that are more costly to google to dodge ads.

Human side wise this is starting to feel like the strangest form of corporate bullying. I want to believe that the motivation is to push up the demand for the strange mix products that is youtube premieum.

peoplenotbots··on Ask HN: Have IRL tech meetups rebounded in your area?
In Los Angeles its super mixed, crypto people powering through likes the grateful dead, alot of promotion for various brands of mixed quality, every shared workspace/club claims to have high quality ones I just dont think 2k a quarter is worth the cost.

Im looking.

peoplenotbots··on Barnes and Noble's surprising turnaround
Im genuinely surprised they didn't lean harder into the hobby shop/coffeeshop/beer-wine angle every indepdent bookstore didnt lean into as community space. The B&N stores typically have so much space they could stock some model kits, some DND manuals and a more robust coffee shop and knock out the average understaffed and under equipped hoppy shop or independent wine bar that has books for sale.

peoplenotbots··on How to Run a Live Coding Stream on Twitch Using OBS
I think a key to streaming is balance of audio and visual "stimulation." If you're not "doing" (as captured by OBS) something stimulating then you need to be saying something engaging. Some in theory if you're coding in python you might need say something to engage your; teaching, explaining your methodology or talking about current events around technology. If you're confident your audio stimulation will not be as strong you need to visualize something engaging. Sometime I did once via youtube was streaming myself writing a research paper creating maps in arcgis.
