I don't think is available.

But you can do a couple of things:

1. Subscribe to the newsletter using kill-the-newsletter.com who creates an RSS feed for your subscription.

2. Follow the RSS feed [1] of their YouTube channel [2], they publish the monthly updates on a video format.

Can't find official Bluesky or Mastodon accounts to also offer you those RSS feeds.

pentagrama··on Microsoft is killing Skype
The 2.0 version of Skype is Microsoft Teams, and they built it from scratch.

Along with the Skype code, the Skype brand was also thrown in the trash. You could question that decision—perhaps keeping both brands for different target demographics would have been a better move. Teams could be for work and business, while Skype (powered by Teams' code) could remain for regular consumers. But I’m not sure. Maybe it’s better to strengthen a single brand rather than maintain two separate products.

That said, I do have an issue with the name Teams—it doesn’t quite fit the use case of calling your grandma overseas.

pentagrama··on Meta announces LlamaCon, its first generative AI dev conference on April 29
It would be beneficial to have a hardware-optimized Llama lineup with a clearer naming scheme and distinct performance tiers, for example:

- Llama 4.0 Phone (Lite / Standard / Max) – For mobile devices.

- Llama 4.0 Workstation (Lite / Standard / Max) – For PCs and laptops.

- Llama 4.0 Server (Lite / Standard / Max) – For high-performance computing.

This approach would enable developers to select the appropriate model based on both device type and performance needs.

What do you think? For example now I feel like 3.3 70B is more for laptops/PCs, and the previous 3.2 3B for phones, is a bit confusing to me.

pentagrama··on WikiTok
This is incredible! Wikipedia has abundance of interesting stuff and this is a great way to discover it, using a popular UX at the moment. Great idea.

A bug report: When open the Wikipedia links on mobile, it shows the desktop view. I guess because the links are like this? https://en.wikipedia.org/?curid=5635437

This deserves a proper domain! I will be glad to gift you the $ to buy one for a year. Let me know! https://wikitok.app/ seems available.

pentagrama··on Google is making AI in Gmail and Docs free, but raising the price of Workspace
Yes, you’re right—there doesn’t seem to be any statement explicitly saying that the legacy free edition will always have the same features as the Business Starter plan, at least not that I could find.

However, I noticed that on my legacy free edition, new features were integrated around the same time they were shipped to the Business Starter plan. For example, when the Gemini app was launched for Workspace, it was added to my panel: https://imgur.com/a/QvROTiD

Interestingly, when I went to the admin panel to take the screenshot, I saw a banner with the OP announcement: https://imgur.com/a/CDgdrlB. It does say "en todas las ediciones de Workspace" (in all Workspace editions), but maybe not the one I currently have, haha (legacy free edition).

pentagrama··on Google is making AI in Gmail and Docs free, but raising the price of Workspace
The legacy free edition includes the features of the 'Business Starter' plan, the most affordable option. In this table [1], you can find the features available for each plan.

Here are the details for the Business Starter plan specifically:

Gmail: Help me write, Side panel, Contextual smart replies (Coming soon).

Gemini app: Enterprise-grade security & privacy, Google Workspace extensions.

NotebookLM: Upload sources, create summaries and Audio Overviews, and Q&A.

I'm also milking Google with this.

pentagrama··on I Switched to Firefox and Never Looked Back
I use Pocket, and I love it. However, I would prefer if it wasn’t built into Firefox but instead remained as an extension. One thing that astonishes me is that, even as a built-in feature, every few weeks, when I click "Save," I find that I’ve been logged out. It shows me a login flow, and after completing it, the link isn’t even saved—I have to click "Save" again. That’s frustrating.
pentagrama··on Microsoft should be terrified of SteamOS
> PC gaming is one of the few places left that Windows has any relevance

While it's true that Windows may face challenges in some areas, claiming it has become irrelevant outside of PC gaming feels like an exaggeration. Here are some recent statistics from Wikipedia [1] to put things into perspective:

Desktop/Laptop operating system browsing statistics

Windows 72.17%

macOS 15.42%

Unknown 6.1%

Linux (excluding ChromeOS) 4.03%

ChromeOS 2.27%

FreeBSD 0.01%

Other 0.01%

Desktop OS market share according to StatCounter as of February 2024. ChromeOS is also based on the Linux kernel.

pentagrama··on 2024: A Record-Breaking Year for the Ocean Cleanup
I applaud the effort and results, but I would also like to see some perspective and a broader view in this article.

For example, it could include graphs showing the estimated amount of plastic being dumped into the ocean yearly, the current total amount of plastic in the ocean, and the amount they have cleaned up on 2024/so far to provide a clearer picture of the overall progress.

pentagrama··on The new science of controlling lucid dreams
As a kid, I was so happy to "discover" that I could be mildly awake and control my dreams. It happened by mistake: I fell asleep while listening to loud music. I was in a middle state, half-awake because of the loud music, and half-asleep, dreaming. In the dream, I was an observer, aware that it was a dream. The music in the background was annoying me, and it was stressful. Later, I "improved" the technique and learned to control the dream while blocking out the annoying music.

Disclaimer: My message before ChatGPT correcteded because my English isn't good enough to me:

> Dozens of other companies, including Google, Meta, and most recently Amazon, have come out with their own foundational models. Some, including Meta’s Llama and Mistral’s 7B, are open source, meaning they can be downloaded and used in other companies’ products free of charge.

To say that these models are open source is debatable. At least by the OSI definition, they aren't [1].

The models are free of charge for commercial use, but it may have restrictions (eg. Llama [2]).

[1] https://opensource.org/ai/open-source-ai-definition

[2] > Can anyone access Llama models? What are the terms? Llama models are broadly available to developers and licensees through a variety of hosting providers and on the Meta website. The Llama models are licensed under the applicable Llama Community License Agreement and accompanying Acceptable Use Policy, which provides a permissive license to the models along with certain restrictions to help ensure that the models are used responsibly. Hosting providers may have additional terms applicable to their services. https://www.llama.com/faq/

pentagrama··on Mullvad Review of 2024
Great that they are self hosting their support email. Curious about which software they are using, few years ago I have a good experience with the open source/self hosted OS Ticket tool to handle support tickets, follow up messages, threads, multiple support seats, etc. It has some UX issues, wondering if there is any other good solutions out there right now.
pentagrama··on Singlefile: A web extension to save a complete web page into a single HTML file
Tried it, and it worked perfectly. Neat!

But should I uninstall it? I noticed that this extension (at least the Firefox version) requires "Access your data for all websites" and there's no option to grant access only when needed, clinking on the extension button. I’m not comfortable with extensions having access to all my browsing data unless it’s absolutely necessary (e.g., uBlock Origin).

pentagrama··on ChatGPT Pro
The argument of more compute power for this plan can be true, but this is also a pricing tactic known as the decoy effect or anchoring. Here's how it works:

1. A company introduces a high-priced option (the "decoy"), often not intended to be the best value for most customers.

2. This premium option makes the other plans seem like better deals in comparison, nudging customers toward the one the company actually wants to sell.

In this case for Chat GPT is:

Option A: Basic Plan - Free

Option B: Plus Plan - $20/month

Option C: Pro Plan - $200/month

Even if the company has no intention of selling the Pro Plan, its presence makes the Plus Plan seem more reasonably priced and valuable.

While not inherently unethical, the decoy effect can be seen as manipulative if it exploits customers’ biases or lacks transparency about the true value of each plan.
