pelagicAustral··on September 2026: The world today, as seen by one Polish guy
Don't forget we have a new map projection as well...
pelagicAustral··on US sanctions force The Netherlands off Microsoft and toward alternative NixOS
How is that a sanction? seems like a blessing instead.
pelagicAustral··on Has Violence Against Teachers Become Accepted by Society?
Your dog whistling argument can be easily countered by peeling a few more layers of the onion... The trouble is, as usual, some things we just dont talk about.
pelagicAustral··on The internet discovers TLA+. Now what?
Hahaha this is so funny... people here get slammed all the time of using AI for writing and here be, just someone writing his way through Internet history and gets slammed for it just the same... you can't hardly win with an audience like this... haha
pelagicAustral··on Breaking Up with Google Play: Why Conversations Is Now Free
I dont have a comprehensive list but there are at least 5 to 10 actions that require me to have the app. No way around it.
pelagicAustral··on Breaking Up with Google Play: Why Conversations Is Now Free
I know this is a stupid question even before I ask it, but is there any chance at this point of seeing something out of the scope of Apple and Google for mobile?? Will the bank apps ever allow people out of these two players
pelagicAustral··on Alberta's image as world's only rat-free region shattered by discovery of rat
Time to pay the piper
pelagicAustral··on Show HN: Hacker Atlas - A map of what Hacker News talks about
One thing I've been doing lately is asking for "presidential briefings" on hot threads. I like to read the comments but some threads get really really dense and I just want the gist of it and to get a feel for the general sentiment so I task claude to do a 2 or 3 page max pdf with charts and literally just that a presidential style brief of wtf is going on. It never disappoints =)
pelagicAustral··on Too AI; Didn't Read
There has been an ancient form of slop that the highest form of authority has read for hundreds of years, and its a presidential brief... The President doesn't reads all the stuff that goes on, he doesn't know, he is handled the a slopified version of reality. Now the presidential briefing is at everyone's hand.
pelagicAustral··on Classified Estimates Show the NSA Is Paying Billions to Test AI Models
Because they are watching everything, or most of it anyway, it would be really funny to know what kind of stuff they *actually* care about... and all the massive long string of crap that is considered incredibly abhorrent but just doesn't make the mark...
pelagicAustral··on What About Rails?
Oh man! now I really need to see an AI edit of the presentation were he storms out at the end to the tune of Simply the Best... Shit! I cant get it off my head
pelagicAustral··on Best LLM for every budget, updated daily
Yeah, I mean, I think in theory I could push it to the next tier on Gemini, but at the same time I wouldn't mind trying something else, since maybe my workloads are not really that smart and I am wasting a lot of computational power on something a cheaper model with similar capabilities can do.
pelagicAustral··on Best LLM for every budget, updated daily
Ah OK, yeah, I was actually going to go for that earlier, I'll check it out once I get home, thanks!
pelagicAustral··on Best LLM for every budget, updated daily
Yeah, 20... I was going to try Deepseek later on, just chuck 20 in there and see how good it does, and how far I can go as well...
pelagicAustral··on Best LLM for every budget, updated daily
Is there a cheaper model than Gemini 3.8 Flash (High) that maybe/kind-of is on-par with it? For me it works really good but hit the limit in two hours tops... last week was the first time I hit the weekly limit and had to wait 4 days... Claude patches OK, but that is also getting drained really fast these days...
pelagicAustral··on Show HN: An open-source manufacturing ERP/MES/QMS
Why would you be embarrassed? when bootstrap came out it took like 10 years for websites to start looking "not bootstrap". These people are just looking for something to complain, maybe GP is a designer and it's running out of work to do... As long as the product is solid...
pelagicAustral··on Samsung accidentally freezes its smart fridges with a software update
Not as bad a putting a mime in the fridge screen, I suppose...
pelagicAustral··on Show HN: Radius – A Meetup.com Alternative
Somehow Radius seems like the perfect app to have in prison.
pelagicAustral··on Brood War Bench
I mean, if anything, the "great" part is about the specific time and place. Which is incredibly interesting when it comes to this post, because the time and place i am talking about brought me here...
pelagicAustral··on Brood War Bench
oh man! missed opportunity.
pelagicAustral··on Brood War Bench
Unrelated to the benchmark...

I love StarCraft. I started playing it right from the beginning, most of my friends right now are from that era. I literally met people that have spread to almost every continent when I was in my early teens. We played at internet cafes and did not have access to the internet, that was priced differently...

I miss those days so much.

Everybody was from a different background back then, and nobody was anything other than a guy that plays StaCraft at the cybercafe... And now, we are in our 40's and I know Math teachers, history teachers, oil rig operators, software programmers, professional gamers, lawyers and more... hahah So crazy to think about it... and I know them, we talk, what a world.

pelagicAustral··on BeanShell3 in Development
This website is the most soulful thing I've seen today.
pelagicAustral··on AI Protest in Montreal
AI is absolutely pervasive at this point. I don't think there is a way to put the cat back in the bag. I am not going so say "unfortunately" because I don't have to write tests anymore and so that makes me happy...

Is water going to be a problem? Yeah, I guess so for a while, until they figure out what to do... but all these protests are so pointless: whales, oil, water, war crimes, I've seen so many over the decades, and not a single one worked, not one.

Congratulations I guess to all that participate and carried on to live a life full of virtue and moral high ground, but in reality, their clothes, their food, their transport, their existence within a system are all going to be somehow linked to AI, if their are not already fully integrated.

pelagicAustral··on OpenJev
What do you mean flannel is outdated? I never got that memo.
pelagicAustral··on The most important product decision is what you don't build
I see this all the time... custom reporting, reports... I have seen this so many times in so many places and I wonder why the fuck are people asking about it. Most of the time they have little clue of what they want reported, or how they want the data to look like. Nearly 100% of the time what they mean by reporting is "join all the tables that have a foreign key, force join all the ones that do not have a foreign key by using a union against some arbitrary value picked at most-likely-to-be-the-right-one and dump everything on an "excel spreadsheet". This is the golden standard most people go by.
pelagicAustral··on I hate you Microsoft
Skill issue, this is why I mainline a macbook pro, a windows shitbox laptop and my kubuntu katana mega riced XPS. Yeah, I also walk about with a live cd.
pelagicAustral··on Astra for Law
Not like common law doesnt already have a lot of hallucination going on.
pelagicAustral··on Xiaomi Mimo 2.6 live post-training dashboard
