peg_leg··on DHS proposes to repeal Work Authorization to Spouses(H4) of H1B visa holders
Because the administration is targeting Obama era rules. It's a government of vindiction. There is no other logic
peg_leg··on People Don't Get the Link Between Meat Consumption and Climate Change (2016)
This is rather true.
peg_leg··on People Don't Get the Link Between Meat Consumption and Climate Change (2016)
Science is not a leftist agenda.
peg_leg··on People Don't Get the Link Between Meat Consumption and Climate Change (2016)
If policy dictated through incentives or exise taxes on not recycling then people will recycle.
peg_leg··on People Don't Get the Link Between Meat Consumption and Climate Change (2016)
Meat is cheap. AND it's not up to individuals to make the broad policy changes needed to affect climate change. That's done by governments. People will follow suit. If there's a tax on meat, less meat will be eaten. To put the onus on individuals to make policy decisions is preposterous.
peg_leg··on F.C.C. Repeals Net Neutrality Rules

Sounds good. Let's do it.
peg_leg··on Cryptocurrency: Lets hear your honest thoughts
Still feels like a ponzi scheme to me. I don't understand the intrinsic value, nor the backing authority. _but_ I have a few buck in it to sataisify my FOMO

peg_leg··on Aetna CEO Set to Reap About $500M If CVS Deal Closes
For 10% of that he can buy enough of congress to make that happen
peg_leg··on Could the Nuclear Family Be the Reason We’re All Miserable?
No. When I was a kid people went outside. Same cookie cutter homes, but people outside.

It's the Internet.

peg_leg··on CVS Is Said to Agree to Buy Aetna
Much of what we pay goes to Profit on several levels - insurance, provider, and medications, et al. That's where the American waste is.

peg_leg··on Coinbase Ordered to Turn Over Identities of 14,355 Crypto Traders to the IRS
Normal profit taking for the asset. Many projections continue to look upward...outrageously upward. Not sure where it goes, but I put a little bit of money in just to satisify my FOMO.
peg_leg··on Show HN: Standup meetings are dead
Stand up is the one time in the day where many info workers have actual contact (via person or voice) with thier coworkers. How antisocial are we trying to be?
peg_leg··on Will Cash Disappear?
So, that's a yes?
peg_leg··on Ask HN: Best tech for a web site 2018? (PHP, Rails, Django, Node, Go, etc.)?
Don't discount C# and the .NET framework. I'm not an expert in the differences, just another coder, but there's been a lot of enhancements to C# .NET in the past couple of years.
peg_leg··on Feynman’s Breakthrough: Disregard Others
This goes for everyone - not just geniuses. The burger flipper at your favorite fast food joint needs to concentrate on his own work, disregarding what the particular tasks of the counter-worker is. An office worker needs to concentrate on their own Excel workbook, disregarding the type or quality of other people's work.

One can't be at peak productivity or creativity while constantly comparing their work to others. A very basic trap that even Nobel Prize winners get stuck in apparently.

peg_leg··on NASA proposes a magnetic shield to protect Mars' atmosphere
Cool, let's build the Death Star there.
peg_leg··on To Slow Global Warming, We Need Nuclear Power (Op-Ed)

peg_leg··on Hotel CEO celebrates higher prices in NYC after anti-Airbnb law passes
Affordable housing > low hotel prices. In Traverse City, Michigan we are facing a drought of affordable housing. Low rent spare rooms are being rented out on AirBNB et. al. for more money and because of that those rooms aren't available for service workers and students. The most unwelcome side effect of this is that several businesses could not open this year for lack of labor and many others operated below capacity for the same reason.
peg_leg··on John Oliver buys $15M in debt and forgives all of it on 'Last Week Tonight'
It's not a major failing, but instead the way it has always worked. The court jester was always the one that was the most accurate because he was able to temper the bad news with comedy such that even the king would approve. The guy that said 'hear-ye' would get his head cut off for the same thing. And no, I don't have sources, this is observation off the cuff and strictly my opinion.
peg_leg··on Google.com partially dangerous
Mostly harmless
peg_leg··on Poor New Yorkers Tend to Live Longer Than Other Poor Americans
It's because they walk.
peg_leg··on Text Mining South Park
This should be nominated for an igNobel
peg_leg··on The world needs at least 600M new jobs in the next decade for young people
Another idea: how are people today that do so-called 'work' contributing to the human race anyway? In my occupation I call 'work' my contribution is minimal. I help build software to make corporations more money. Almost a negative on the human race. My saving grace is that I make music in my spare time. That is my real contribution to the world.
peg_leg··on The world needs at least 600M new jobs in the next decade for young people
The young people of today are different. They are on the cusp of potentially something wonderful and strange for the human race. Older people don't recognize it. The values are different. Maybe the idea of 'work' will change to suit them.
peg_leg··on Sandra Bland arrest video has continuity problems, anomalies
Yes. I'm white, in a boring town, was driving a crap car at the time and was young. Got a warning.
peg_leg··on Stop and Seize
This has been going on to some extent for decades. Now that John Oliver (a satirist) does a story it's all of a sudden front page news?!
