peakaboo··on Vim Color Schemes
Tokyo Night is just amazing.
peakaboo··on Neovim to Add Telemetry Reporting via Google
Actually a very good one. :)
peakaboo··on Why People Are Acting So Weird
I bet there is a new covid mutation before summer. Gotta keep everyone afraid so they comply.
peakaboo··on Zee: A modern text editor for the terminal written in Rust
Vim is amazing.
peakaboo··on Samsung announces M8 smart monitor series
Yes we know. :)
peakaboo··on Altruism under stress: cortisol negatively predicts charitable giving
You shouldn't numb it, that's crazy.

The best people on this planet care about others. The worst turn into Putin.

peakaboo··on Ask HN: Is switching from VSCode to Vim worth it?
The biggest advantage of vim, besides the language for editing text in normal mode, is that you are really fast and it just feels like you never have to wait for your computer anymore.
peakaboo··on Mental speed is high until age 60
I have 398 so not very fast. Still I do great in CS :)
peakaboo··on Rolling Rhino: Ubuntu is getting a rolling release
Arch Linux is the best system there is, and if you are worried about kernel stability, there is a lts kernel.

I've been using it for work for many years, it doesn't disappoint.

peakaboo··on Mental speed is high until age 60
I play counterstrike and I frequently is at the top spot in death match games, beating second place with twice their score sometimes.

I'm 47. My reaction time hasn't slowed at all. My memory have a little bit though.

peakaboo··on Ask HN: Do people at Google use Google things
Gmail is the easiest to replace by far. You can copy everything to Fastmail in hours and be done.
peakaboo··on Facebook and Google are too big for democracy
Those companies do not track and save private search information about every human on the planet.

Google can affect what every human thinks about anything, because they control the worlds information.

Nobody really understood the full power of a search engine that becomes a near monopoly until it happened.

peakaboo··on Why are so many people going ‘goblin mode’?
I had a forest walk today. Cleared my head and reminded me how beautiful nature is.

I think people are disconnecting way too much from what's real and embracing what's not real.

peakaboo··on Whatever happened to QuickTime?
Really? I remember their logo all over the software... And the mac-gray default look with big round buttons.
peakaboo··on 1/3 of all pro-Kremlin propaganda on YouTube comes from two Ukrainians
The hacker news audience doesn't like the truth sometimes.
peakaboo··on Gnome 42 Released
For me KDE is too buggy. Always issues with everything from the indexer going nuts to random theme clutches etc...
peakaboo··on Gnome 42 Released
I want this so bad. Hopefully it comes into Arch quickly.

There has been rumours that theming may be dead though? Appearently it's harder to theme things in Gnome 42 but I don't know why.

peakaboo··on Kitty: The fast, feature-rich, GPU based terminal emulator
It's a very fast terminal but has some graphical artifacts in vim for me with integrated terminal.

I use alacritty now. I also used wezterm for a while, it's really good but feels slower.

Overall we are spoiled with choice. :)

peakaboo··on The Anonymous collective has leaked the database of Nestlé. Leaked 10GB data
Nestle is probably the most evil company in the world though.

peakaboo··on Microservices: Why Are We Doing This?
I never got exited about micro services because I understood that the complexity would be unreal.

I was watching as the industry went all in on something fundamentally wrong. It didn't make anything better, it made everything worse.

Now we are looking back and wanting monorepos, monoliths with simple code, and low complexity.

peakaboo··on Hackers claim to have breached Okta systems
Azure is awful in general. Microsoft can't even copy other clouds efficiently.
peakaboo··on What doctors wish patients knew about long Covid
Guess you were unlucky and your immune system couldn't fight it off.

I didn't even notice covid.

peakaboo··on NYC allows citizens to report idling vehicles in exchange for a cut of the fines
In 50 years? I've been looking back at humans since I was born and thinking there is not much to be proud of. We made the planet a worse place for every other species expect maybe cats and dogs.
peakaboo··on Show HN: Free open-source alternative to Airflow/Prefect/Airbyte/Dagster
It's always interesting how people's experiences are so different. At many of my jobs, airflow has just worked perfectly and we never even had to think about it.

But i welcome alternatives since I think it has become way too complicated now, and it's not necessary for most people with all the complexity (distributed tasks with celery comes to mind).

peakaboo··on Dogs are good models for human psychiatric disorders, study argues
In my experience, people who never had dogs usually say things like that about dog owners. :)
peakaboo··on Specialist Ukrainian drone unit picks off invading Russian forces
This is so evil, but feels fair considering Ukraine was attacked, and Russia killing civilians routinely.
peakaboo··on Apple M1 Ultra's 64-Core GPU Fails to Dethrone the Mighty RTX 3090
Intel has absolutely been lazy and literally just gave 5% performance increase per year for quite some time. When AMD was making shitty processors, Intel was just trying to squeeze as much money as possible from marginal upgrades.

You can run Windows on a Intel cpu that is 10 years old and notice hardly any difference in performance.

And on the other hand, they changed everything. Their cpus are actually innovative and really fast, and brought the entire multi core thing into consumer hands in a real way.

peakaboo··on Each Firefox download has a unique identifier
A download identifier really isn't that bad. Maybe they need to actually show some numbers of their downloads to justify budgets and other things.

It's not like they are having tracking JavaScript on 80% of the worlds Web sites like someone else I know, starting with Googl...

peakaboo··on How to make Docker images even smaller
This is a great example of making a tech stack more complicated for almost no real value.

Developers joining the team now must understand nix, scripting and a lot of other things just to build a simple docker image.

Just stop.

peakaboo··on Google Analytics 4
Google Analytics is about to be banned in Europe.

Couldn't be more happy.
