pdexter··on Grain: WebAssembly-First Programming Language
Haskell doesn't require top level type definitions.
pdexter··on NovaStelo: Block-style programming for multi-agent systems, based on MIT Scratch
As in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agent-based_model I believe
pdexter··on Combining event sourcing and stateful systems
How were the diagrams made?
pdexter··on Tell HN: Zoom truncates passwords to 32 chars
charles schwab did that up to about 4 or 5 years ago
pdexter··on A new Go API for Protocol Buffers
Random question, but how did they get the source code highlighting in that doc?
pdexter··on Things I Learned from Five Years in Climate Tech
We're software developers after all.

I feel sad knowing that what I've trained for and my passion aren't helpful at all to fixing this crisis.

pdexter··on Modern, functional Common Lisp: myths and best practices
That sounds more like an implementation detail, in most cases. By this metric Haskell wouldn't be a functional language.
pdexter··on Ask HN: How does your company keep track of lessons learned?
Is this automated?
pdexter··on Is a Dataframe Just a Table? (2019) [pdf]
Sounds like datalog could fit this bill
pdexter··on JuliaLang: The Ingredients for a Composable Programming Language
Interesting. Can you give an example of generic algorithms plus custom types, in practice? Off the top of my head I thought that any dynamic language or static language with good genetics would have this property, but maybe there's something that Julia does differently.
pdexter··on A Pythonista's Review of Haskell
Yeah I think rust has better defaults here.
pdexter··on A Pythonista's Review of Haskell

pdexter··on A Pythonista's Review of Haskell
C-- is one of the stages of its compilation to a binary IIRC. I wouldn't say it "can transpile to C--", as if C-- is an optional target which the user then does something else with.
pdexter··on A Pythonista's Review of Haskell
Although it itself is deprecated, the TypeInType extension does exist.

pdexter··on The Rise of SQL-Based Data Modeling
What's the connection between NoSQL vs SQL and eventual consistency?
pdexter··on Glot.io – An open source multi-lang pastebin with runnable snippets and API
It doesn't offer a repl as far as I've seen.
pdexter··on ChrysaLisp
https://github.com/vygr/ChrysaLisp/blob/master/apps/terminal... for example
pdexter··on T1: A Modern Programming Language for Constrained Environments
For anyone looking for examples, there are some here https://github.com/t1lang/t1lang.github.io/blob/master/North... .
pdexter··on Matlab–Python–Julia Cheatsheet
Elixir doesn't have mutable variables though. Is there any language that has mutable variables and closes over the value of a variable and not a "pointer to the value"?
pdexter··on An update about Redis developments in 2019
Is there any more info on the redis cluster proxy?
pdexter··on MinUnit – A minimal unit testing framework for C (2002)

pdexter··on What is Hindley-Milner and why is it cool? (2008)
No, Leaf isn't a type.

pdexter··on Even moderate drinking could harm the brain
> "about 5 to 7 beers or 6 to 8 glasses of wine" in one week is very different if you have one beer a day, or if you drink the same amount on a Saturday night outing.

Is this true?

pdexter··on Exploiting the TOR-Browser
What to use instead?
pdexter··on Why I published in a predatory journal
Sounds like a good approach
pdexter··on Why I published in a predatory journal
I agree, the doubt plays an important role.
pdexter··on Why I published in a predatory journal
They're anonymous but after the reviews the authors are then usually (always?) revealed to the reviewers. Let's not kid ourselves though, academia, and especially in smaller subfields, is made up of small communities where you can usually guess whose paper you're reviewing unless it's a brand new contribution in a field by someone who doesn't usually publish there. You can often guess who the review was performed by too, since the program committee is always public.
pdexter··on Cycling to work can cut cancer and heart disease, says study
Put it in the freezer or outdoors (if you live in a cold environment). Not sure if this is actually a thing or just some old urban myth, but it's what I do. Maybe I smell though.
