pdelgallego··on Germany's Pirate Party Looks to Win More Seats
That is, imo, a very simplistic explanation of what happened in the Weimar republic. The interwar period were complex and convoluted times

The military overspend during WWI and draconian terms that the winners impose over Germany destroyed the economy of the country, creating a spiral of hyperinflation[1], both led to an inevitable second conflict, as Keynes pointed in "The Economic Consequences of the Peace" that was written many years before the WWII

[1] A great book about Weimar hyperinflation cycle is "When money dies: The nightmare of the Weimar collapse"

pdelgallego··on Rails 4 will establish a new background job queueing API
> I am curious, under what circumstances would one use this, rather than something like Rescue? And there is so much competition in this space, what

The goal is not to replace the existing queue solutions, but to create a common API, so the rest of the gems can can just treat all of them in a uniform way.

Quoting Jose Valim:

"The point of the Queue is to be small and provide an API that more robust engines like resque and sidekiq can hook in. So you can easily start with an in memory queue (as you can see, the implementation does not even reach 100LOC) which is also easy to test and then easily swap to another one.

Why this is good? By having an unified API, tools like Devise, Action Mailer can simply use Rails.queue.push() instead of worrying with compatibility for different plugins.

So the goal here is provide an API for queueing and with a simple in memory implementation. It is not meant to be a robust queue system. "

pdelgallego··on Foxconn Plans to Lift Pay Sharply at Factories in China
India have even more good reasons:

- India's domestic consumption accounts for 57% of the GPD.

- India's housing bubble is not even close to what has been going on in China.

- 650 million Indian's are estimated to live on $2 a day (100 millions in china).

- India's population will overtake china's during the 2020's

OTHO, India has other problems like endemic corruption, less investment in infrastructure, or terrible levels of inflation for example.

How is a movie marketed and distributed in the film industry?

>> - Camera and grip departement can get huge... I've done only a moderate size productions and my camera and grip dept. was 20-30 people (skilled labour that costs money)

Could the team size be reduced by more/better technology?

>> Sound designers start their work (sound design is a major component of content along with images) - Composer starts their work

>> Prop dept. is rare in talent and costs a lot of money, traditional FX even more so - Sound designers which are good are rare, they cost, their hardware and software costs. Foley is even more rare to find.

pdelgallego··on What really caused the eurozone crisis?
Unfortunately, many Spanish commercial banks and saving banks bet the farm on the real state market. For example the Sabadell Bank just bought the CAM (a saving bank) for one euro.[1]

The were some talking about burst the bubble in 2004, but Zapatero's government never implement the reforms. The Spanish prime minister regret later about not bursting the bubble earlier.[2]

Spanish banks are well protected against loans because, the asset pledge as collateral" clause is rarely use in Spain.

pdelgallego··on Backbone.js Fundamentals
You should consider Spine as well.

Backbone has concepts of Models, Views and Collections (groups of Models) vs Spine that has concepts of Models and Controllers.

Both additionally have client side routes.

Spine abstracts away prototypal inheritance a little more regarding "super".

Spine has localStorage support natively.

pdelgallego··on What really caused the eurozone crisis?
Spain did a lot of mistakes. I.e. not to take any action to stop the real state bubble, create unnecessary infrastructure, or the fact that a plenty of youngster stopped their education in order to work as construction workers.

I'm not a US citizen, but I'm looking forward to apply for internships in the US next Spring.

What are in your opinion the skills that an intern must have to get a position? It is normal in the US to consider foreigners for an intern position?
