pawelkobojek··on Pyrefly: Python type checker and language server in Rust
I absolutely understand this is still alpha so I kind of assumed these are expected. Frankly, that's why I haven't submitted an issue -- I assumed it's going to be fixed at some point. I'll go ahead and make an issue on GitHub, thanks.

Exactly - something along the lines of "Statement is unreachable".
pawelkobojek··on Pyrefly: Python type checker and language server in Rust
I love the speed advantage of pyrefly over (based)pyright but so far it doesn't seem to highlight as much as pyright does, for example it doesn't catch unreachable code like this:

  def fn(x: str):
    if x is None:
x = "123" # pyright flags that as unreachable code, pyrefly does not
Autocomplete for modules also doesn't work for me yet:

  import os
  os. # I'll get `ABC, `Any`, `AnyStr`, `AnyStr_co`, `BinaryIO`, ...
Looking forward to have a fast language server for python though, pyright is way too slow for large projects.
pawelkobojek··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (October 2025)
I'm working on Penteglot - a fork of Emacs's Eglot LSP client with multi-server support.

The main feature: you can run multiple language servers simultaneously for the same buffer.

One of the main reasons people stick with lsp-mode over Eglot has been the lack of multi-server support. Eglot is otherwise the most "emacsy" LSP client, so I'm working on filling that gap and I hope it could be merged into Emacs one day.

This is still WIP but I've been using it for a while for Python (basedpyright or pyrefly + ruff for linting) and TypeScript (ts-ls + eslint + tailwind language server).

pawelkobojek··on 1948: Catholic Church publishes final edition of “Index Librorum Prohibitorum”
Not sure why are you getting downvoted but I wanted to express my appreciation of comments like this. Being a non-native speaker I’ve been struggling with nuances like that one and native speakers I encounter hardly ever want to correct my errors, likely because they don’t want to come across as rude.

Adding a support for direct CDP connection with our custom browsers cluster that powers our web scraping API (https://scrapingfish.com/) so that our customers can integrate it into their existing workflows.
pawelkobojek··on Ask HN: What non-AI products are you working on?
Interesting question to me, as I was focusing on AI for most of my career but got burnt out. Getting back to more traditional software engineering was a bliss. Right now, I'm working on our web scraping API SaaS (https://scrapingfish.com/). What I found mildly surprising and amusing is how web scraping happens to have one common thing with AI: you hypothesize on something, run an experiment, draw conclusions, iterate.
pawelkobojek··on The last day of Constantinople
There's wonderful podcast on Spotify - Fall of Civilizations which has an episode on that subject: https://open.spotify.com/episode/4iiSrljKh9sVHBgMPd9EPd
pawelkobojek··on Ask HN: What is the best income stream you have created till date?
https://scrapingfish.com

A SaaS we developed with my cofounder. Started at the beginning of this year and been growing steadily. We are involved daily in user support, marketing and development.

We attribute the growth to a couple of very successful blog posts which made it to the front page of HN.

Thank you HN!

pawelkobojek··on Emacs 29 is nigh
I love that eglot is being incorporated into emacs, though I myself use lsp-mode. Does anybody know how advanced eglot is? As far as I hear, it doesn't support multiple language servers which seems like a showstopper for web dev these days, e.g. I usually have ts lang server + tailwind lang server running at the same time when doing web dev.
pawelkobojek··on Emacs User Survey (2022)
Have you tried emacs-plus[1]? That's what I've been using for years now on macOS and never ran into issues. Opening big files is a different topic though I believe it doesn't work much better on Linux too.

pawelkobojek··on Build Your Own Mobile Proxy for Web Scraping
Yes, RPi is totally optional. This article just provides an example setup.
pawelkobojek··on Build Your Own Mobile Proxy for Web Scraping
That's not easy to estimate, depends on your location and if you want to use RPi.

A (very) rough estatimate is ~$40 per dongle, RPi starts from $35, totalling ~$115. You'd also need to buy two 4G plans.

pawelkobojek··on Taking action against scraping for hire
There are two cases they brought up, one being web scraping and the other is making a clone website publicly displaying content from Instagram.

I think Meta might be mixing up these two cases here on purpose to make it look like web scraping is as bad as stealing photos to publish it on a clone website.

pawelkobojek··on Most of Rust job offers are in crypto
Co-author here.

I think 'bullshit' is a little of an overstatement. I agree it's not a definite answer at all but I think it's quite an approximation of how the job market in Rust looks like.

Moreover, it's not a rant against it, we addressed a common belief within the Rust community without stating a judgement whether it's good or bad thing.

pawelkobojek··on Most of Rust job offers are in crypto
Sure, but there's a prevalent theme within Rust community that its job market is overweighted towards blockchain. I'm not sure if that's the case with other langs out there.
pawelkobojek··on Most of Rust job offers are in crypto
It's a valid point, however I don't feel like there's a lot of discussion in e.g. python or JavaScript crowd around it. The post addresses the common concern within Rust community by approximating an answer to the question in title.
pawelkobojek··on You can now ask Google to remove your phone number, email or address from search
It's great but a related question: if Google processes phone numbers how is it GDPR compliant? They definitely don't ask every person in the EU whether they can process their personal data and yet it is possible to find EU citizens' phone numbers using their search engine.
pawelkobojek··on Ask HN: How do you protect your emergency fund from inflation?
My emergency fund is set for 12 months. I keep 1/4 in a savings account for a quick access and 3/4 in government retail bonds which in my country (Poland) are inflation adjusted after first year and I’m able to withdraw any time I wish so. The capital is guaranteed no matter when you withdraw and if the withdrawal happens before expiration, 2 PLN are subtracted from interest per each 100 PLN. This obviously assumes that government won’t default but it’s a safe bet in my opinion.
