paulzerkel··on Amon Tobin – Foley Room site (2007)
Amon Tobin was also an early adopter of Final Scratch on Linux. His "Recorded Live" album on Ninja Tune's Solid Steel series included liner notes about the challenges of touring with a Linux laptop instead of records in 2003.
paulzerkel··on Ask HN: Fake Resume Keywords Finder
I’ve struggled with this problem in a large organization as well. Even when it was shown that the resumes being submitted were mostly fake (that is, the majority of the contents were copied verbatim from random resumes on popular resume aggregation sites) the bigger issue was fixing the overall talent pipeline. If the vendors don’t care, and your vendor management doesn’t care, and your HR doesn’t care, then all the tech to detect a fake resume _probably_ won’t help you. IME there didn’t seem to be a lot of inclination or incentive for people to address the root of the problem, but hopefully you have more success.
paulzerkel··on How Tier 2 cloud vendors banded together to cope with Spectre and Meltdown
I work for a cloud computing company that would have benefitted (and hopefully contributed) from being on that Slack. If you have the time, would you mind reaching out to me with details? My email is in my profile.
paulzerkel··on Ask HN: Web Scraping with Node.js
Here is a place to start: https://github.com/lorien/awesome-web-scraping/blob/master/j...

You might want to check out the Nightmare project (https://github.com/segmentio/nightmare) which makes automating an Electron instance pretty simple.

paulzerkel··on Ask HN: How many programmers out there keep a paper notebook for their projects?
I like to use a notebook for random thoughts, todo lists, and diagrams. Taking notes on paper in meetings helps me commit important details to memory and having them all in a book keeps me more organized.

I used to always buy Moleskine notebooks but have switched to Forestry Suppliers #49352 field book. It is a combo of ruled and graph paper and intended for surveyors, but it is a nice mix for developing software as well.

paulzerkel··on Why has the quality of brick buildings declined in the last 100 years?
This is a problem in parts of St. Louis, MO. The brick is of high enough quality that people will steal them for resale from abandoned buildings. Naturally, this leads to the building collapsing which causes even more issues for surrounding area.
paulzerkel··on Show HN: How I became a hacker
For anyone in St. Louis, MO, Launchcodestl.com is starting a free in-person study group for this class that will meet two times a week. I am not affiliated, but it does sound like a great opportunity for anyone who wants to start programming or who wants to brush up on the topics.
