path411··on Kik Messenger App Debuts Own Digital Currency Amid Bitcoin Boom
Most premium game currencies are untradable between users.

For the few that are, then the difference would be the ability to trade the currency for real world goods or services. Most games explicitly disallow trading in-game currency for real world goods/services where Kik's currency would not just be allowed but encouraged.

Remember that space is 3d. Not only do you have the surface area of the entire earth + the area from where LEO starts. You can then stack layers on top of that.

The natural "free market" tendency to form monopolies as dominate parties buy out smaller ones.
path411··on International Travel Guide for Basecamp employees
Except a discrepancy between popular opinion and the college won't matter because the party who wins is the one that the problems of the electoral college worked in favor of. The electoral college was already brought up when Trump won while losing the popular vote, but it's just seen as "whining and complaining" so it just drops off pretty quickly.

Yeah, but American companies leave and hide as much income and money offshore as possible for tax reasons so buying something outside the states is rarely going to give money to America.
path411··on SQL is 43 years old – Here’s why we still use it today
In the projects I've worked on that require frequent table modification, I came to the opinion that the correct approach would be to store the data where the columns/values are stored in a table or set of tables based on types and linked together with a relationship to the original table as the parent. The big downside I could see is performance, but maybe I'm falsely assuming that this would still be faster than NoSQL? (I haven't actually used nosql however.) But, for my projects, the performance hit should/would not be a problem.

Since my experience is probably just limited, I'm curious if there is an easy to explain example where this is incorrect? (Or I guess maybe most people disagree with me and see my above opinion as always/most of the time incorrect)

Well, it's pretty complaint to standards now. The problem is that it's just 2-3 year old standards.

It's just a javascript variable named PHP.

The most popular UI framework using the most popular UI library? I don't see the problem.
path411··on Google Glass is Alive
Glass seems like it's far away from becoming a HUD. From my understanding, it's essentially just a mini-screen in your peripheral vision.

(This is also a big complaint I have of Google Glass. I don't think I've ever actually seen a single image from Google talking about how it looks from a wearer's point of view.)

http://i.ytimg.com/vi/d-y3bEjEVV8/maxresdefault.jpg

Is the type of pictures I typically see. This is portion of your vision blocked by a semi-transparent area so it can reflect the very small and basic text projection.

When I think of HUD, I think of something that is able to overlay my vision like so:

http://www.niemanlab.org/images/behavio_hud.png (Just first image in google search)

Since neural manipulation or a screen being able to be on a contact lens are probably far away technology wise, that essentially leaves us with having to create something that can either draw or project a screen on a normal pair of glasses.

Once you can wear a prescription or prescription-less pair of fairly normal looking glasses that can draw/display image/shapes/text/color anywhere on the lens, then I think the actual "revolution" will take place and everyone will quickly buy and use them constantly.

path411··on Ross Ulbricht Sentenced to Life in Prison
It's pretty obvious that drugs being illegal isn't stopping people from OD'ing, so I don't understand how this can be used as an argument against legalizing drugs.
path411··on Popcorn Time in Your Browser
I don't think the college would be able to detect it as normal torrent traffic, but it would be pretty trivial to catch you using this specific site/service once your campus hears about it.
path411··on Popcorn Time in Your Browser
You have to wait 3 months after a movie has been released to DVD for it to even have a chance of being on Netflix to "help encourage" DVD sales.
path411··on Popcorn Time in Your Browser
"Paying money in return for receiving goods" still works fine. Most people are willing to pay if given reasonable terms and ease of access. Steam is a pretty big flagship of how to make a business that competes with pirating.

Media companies are stuck in the dark ages where instead of trying to increase value of their product/service, they instead double down on increasing revenue per viewer with horrible anti-customer policies like 10-minute unskippable ads on a DVD you bought.

I don't think I've heard someone use the term DHTML since the 90s. I don't expect you will get a lot of resources on it.

I think this ignores a lot of other points.

Console requires a high quality TV.

Console may require controller or other accessories to play local multiplayer.

Console games are significantly more expensive, especially for a more casual gamer.

The games they like to play 5 hours a week may only be available on PC.

Well I use a dev virtual server instead of a local vm. I enjoy working in a windows environment, but would rather not struggle with the discrepancies between running an app on windows with something like xampp vs apache on centos which are my web servers.

I use a sftp atom plugin to workin on/save to my dev server and just use ssh to do git/etc right on the server. I don't see how this workflow is very different than working locally and using a command prompt for all of your tools.

If they wanted to move towards less curation, then it seems counter to them creating tags, "recommended for you" games, steam curators, discovery queue, or their two new customizable curation panes on their homepage, and more, all in the past year.

Steam is very visibly and actively trying to improve curation, and despite being very poor at it previously, they have very much improved rather quickly.

> Sure no one likes to wait but it requires the least amount of expertise and...

I would argue that knowing some of the implementations of features such as module/export/class/extends of TypeScript in native javascript requires a lot more expertise to create coherent OOP code than just opening up TypeScript and using a syntax for OOP that most people are already familiar with.
