Don't fix something that isn't broken!

pankajdoharey··on The AMD tinybox is on hold until we can build and run the firmware on our GPUs
Comma.ai is profitable, and as long as TinyCorp is profitable all else will follow. AMD / NVidia / Intel these are all means to a commoditised petaflops. And for that too happen starting with a decent affordable hardware was a good choice, turns out they are affordable because they dont have a good handle on their hardware or software. And the way the Red organisation is structured it seems things are not going to become better, its better to move to the winning Team. (Green)
pankajdoharey··on Everest 2024: Nepal's "GPS Chip" Plan Has Major Problems
Or get a Apple TAG no?
pankajdoharey··on Devin: AI Software Engineer
So why are they hiring? https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/cognition cant they just use "Devin" ?
pankajdoharey··on Apple's exclusionary app store scheme: An existential moment for the DMA
This will just increase piracy as is prevalent in the Android ecosystem. Stealing apps will become common and so would hacking if the entire app ecosystem is opened up for apps. This will stifle innovation everyone knows the money is in the iOS ecosystem where the user pays not Android.
pankajdoharey··on Scheme in Scheme on WASM in the browser
This is what a Ghetto Looks like. If i had a way to delete my account i would be happy.
pankajdoharey··on Scheme in Scheme on WASM in the browser
Thanks.
pankajdoharey··on Scheme in Scheme on WASM in the browser
Explain why you downvoted this? Self hosting scheme compilers on WASM is not new. HN a compliance Ghetto?
pankajdoharey··on Scheme in Scheme on WASM in the browser
Someone actually wrote a scheme back in 2017 https://github.com/google/schism so this isnt new. Infact the whole idea of WASM is not new, 20 yrs back Sun had the same idea, embed compiled bytecode inside browser called applets, developed in JAVA. Even flash was a similar idea, though flash VM was riddled with security flaws. This failed to gain wider acceptance, now 20 yrs later we have a embedded bytecode compiler in the browser, but it may work this time.
pankajdoharey··on AMD's New Threadripper Chips Have a Hidden Fuse That Blows When Overclocking
Clearly they just want to know the data on failure rate of their process, this affects their real bottom line, Servers and Consoles where reliability is everything. Gaming Computer users are a minority and Custom PC owners are steadily declining.
pankajdoharey··on GM says it's dropping Apple CarPlay and Android Auto because they're unsafe
No its a car company which writes its own software. Their primary business in not software its cars. Although i agree they are not very good at it, the build quality is obviously dubious. Perhaps the Know how of old car companies + Tesla's battery and Motor tech + Software could result in an overall better product. A merger would be a net positive IMO.
pankajdoharey··on Epic vs. Google: Google Loses
Well 20 Yrs ago, Microsoft faced an Anti trust lawsuit in Federal court for shipping a browser, now Apple and Google both ship with a ton of software not just browser and restrict users from installing the software of their choice, yet Apple seems to be not facing any backlash. While Google lost for the same cause. This seems not only arbitrary but also shows the weakness in US court system and Arbitration by a Jury. The anti trust lawsuit against Microsoft could be a precedent for a case against both Apple and Google.
pankajdoharey··on Epic vs. Google: Google Loses
Its funny how "binding precedent" doesnt apply to the same court that gave both decisions. It is the Northern district Court of california. Thus precedents mean nothing and Jury is free to give arbitrary decisions.
pankajdoharey··on Epic vs. Google: Google Loses
So they dont look at precedents in court system in USA ?
pankajdoharey··on High-Dosage NMN Promotes Ferroptosis to Suppress Lung Adenocarcinoma in Mice
You cannot completely reject it, this is the first step, the next is human clinical trials.
pankajdoharey··on Authors say OpenAI 'ingested' their books to train ChatGPT
To be fair though its an Open secret they trained it on Common crawl G4 and Pile databases. But proving it is another thing. By the time someone develops tooling to prove such things we will have an explainable AI.
pankajdoharey··on Authors say OpenAI 'ingested' their books to train ChatGPT
Essentially they want a copyright on knowledge, Such a law can be misused. Also its hard to prove this just by looking at the weights, and for something as large as GPT-3.5 it would not be easy to prove this.
pankajdoharey··on Iron fuel shows its mettle
This is another Aluminium Air battery, same concept different metal. None of them considers splitting water is energy intensive and inefficient. Another hydrogen fool cell category fuel imo.
pankajdoharey··on Launch HN: Onu (YC W23) – Turn scripts into internal tools in minutes
At this point i just use ChatGPT to build the UI's for my script. What else does this offer?
pankajdoharey··on Designs for battery tankers to transport renewable energy by 2026
This cannot be better than transporting electricity over wires. Currently long distance cables are laid for Internet. We already have experience doing that and does not increase sea faring traffic. Even if someone wants to just transport charged electrolyte instead of actual batteries why not use pipelines? Humans have experience transporting oil and gas over large distances over pipes so that too can be done. Poor investors behind this are so doomed.
pankajdoharey··on The tiny corp raised $5.1M
Comma's hypothesis could be correct and its licensing is also very flexible, if they do succeed in making an android equivalent of SDC(self driving), they will be used by all these car manufacturers eventually.
pankajdoharey··on The tiny corp raised $5.1M
You mean talk more and code less?
pankajdoharey··on AI in the Arts Is the Destruction of the Film Industry. We Can't Go Quietly
As Pablo picaso said 'Good Artists Copy Great Artists steal', the luddites give a headache for a short while then they fade in oblivion every time. They always loose.
pankajdoharey··on Gitlab and Google Cloud Partner to Expand AI-Assisted Capabilities
How was Github Co pilot trained? None of these companies have revealed their sources. But we still know OpenAI itself trained on the google C4 and Pile databases. Who knows maybe even SciHub aswell. We have moved way past asking, well that is illegal zone. As you might know Pile has over 2 million pirated books in it and it is easily downloadable even after bookzz was confiscated by FBI.
pankajdoharey··on Gitlab and Google Cloud Partner to Expand AI-Assisted Capabilities
Sounds like a deal to train vertex ai on enterprise codebase in the name of privacy and security. This doesn’t look like a natural partnership to me.
pankajdoharey··on Jsonformer: Generate structured output from LLMs
Its not very hard through prompting. You can just ask the LLM to generate on these parameters. I did this exact same thing and never wrote any code for it.
pankajdoharey··on Mojo – a new programming language for AI developers
Is this gonna be a commercial compiler ? Why is there a signup waitlist. Is this not gonna be Opensource?
pankajdoharey··on Mojo – a new programming language for AI developers
How do i actually install this ? Is this a commercial compiler with no github?
pankajdoharey··on Show HN: Killport – CLI tool to kill processes running on a specified port
Typical bash programmer : https://github.com/metacritical/killport
pankajdoharey··on Show HN: Killport – CLI tool to kill processes running on a specified port
I was thinking the same thing. Quite a bit of effort, 3 Branches 26 commits and Rust (The effort gone in taming the beast). The hacker mindset is usually to avoid over engineering, saving efforts by avoiding a solved problem.
pankajdoharey··on PHP Popularity: Is it decreasing and what to do about it?
There is no structure, OO was an after thought, meta-programming an after thought., unit testing, testing utilities and frameworks an afterthought, their best Web-framework Laravel is a clone of Rails, No original good ideas in the PHP Community and thats the problem. The reason is PHP is a poor clone of Perl.
