palad1n··on The Lost Treasure of Sid Meier's Pirates
Anybody remember the anti-piracy “feature” on this game?

Brings me back to when there were boids applets.

Also Bodywatching.
palad1n··on Amazon checkout is not working
There seems to be multiple issues there currently…
palad1n··on Amazon Books Are Down
Can confirm. There seems to be multiple issues there; my shopping lists don’t load from the top menu, as well.
palad1n··on On the Design of Programming Languages (1974) [pdf]
I think the legend goes Wirth created the Pascal language to be the most easily compilable. To show my age, I recall a class used Modula-2 when I was in college, also from Wirth, very Pascal-like.
palad1n··on MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max
Haha! I bought an M1 Max Macbook Pro and I maxed most of the specs. 64GB memory! (Except for the SSD, which I got the 2TB option.) I have not even THOUGHT about “upgrading” to a newer model. I have yet to even tax my system to any significant degree. Bad for Apple? How much are they worth?
palad1n··on The Xkcd thing, now interactive
THIS IS THE BEST THING EVAR!
palad1n··on AI is making junior devs useless
tl;dr ask why
palad1n··on Never buy a .online domain
Oh, sh!t, I used to own a .tk! Have no idea what happened to it.
palad1n··on Never buy a .online domain
Yeah, what the heck happened to Gandi? It used to be my go-to, but nowadays... yikes!
palad1n··on Never buy a .online domain
Are there any other TLDs that are of this ilk or are we saying nothing but .com will ever do? Or .org, perhaps?
palad1n··on Americans are destroying Flock surveillance cameras
This is my America. Bravo.
palad1n··on AI's Memorization Crisis

palad1n··on New gel restores dental enamel and could revolutionise tooth repair
Would you know where to get NovaMin mouthwash?
palad1n··on The Obsessively Complete Infocom Catalog
IF: yeah I’m a fan and once started to teach myself Inform 6, way back when. My greatest accomplishment was translating a random haiku generator in Inform 6. I sort of lost interest as Inform 7 was coming on the scene.
palad1n··on RIP Val Kilmer: Real Genius .. the Film Nerd Culture Deserves (2015)
Oh, good God, Val Kilmer is dead. The Real Genius Knight, jaw-snap Iceman, Jim Morrison v 2, oh good God, a big piece of me. Gone.
palad1n··on Ross Ulbricht granted a full pardon
I can’t believe Trump did something right. If Harris were prez he’d be languishing there till who knows when.
palad1n··on The unexpected poetry of PhD acknowledgements
These are surprisingly beautiful, poetic. They reflect what I think would be the best of the humanity that we have, anywhere and everywhere. I thank the collector of these for some brief moments in the music of others' lives.
palad1n··on Women who make Samsung semiconductors are striking
Really? In 2019? This is the first I've heard of it, and I've been working here since 2017. I have no notion that this problem has been actually addressed anywhere.
palad1n··on Cigarette sales and lung cancer mortality in the US
So this is what happens when facts win out...
palad1n··on Night owls' cognitive function 'superior' to early risers, study suggests
Rabbit hole: https://warinheaven.net
palad1n··on Starfighter Scandal: Did Germany's Lockheed F-104
The famous "widowmaker"... I remember these from childhood, looking through a book about fighter jets. Always thought they had a wicked shape, instantly caught my youthful eye.
palad1n··on The price of gold – how bad do you want it? (2016)
In retrospect, the article was what one should have expected given the second half of the title. And it was quite interesting. But yeah, I thought this would be about the bullion gold.
palad1n··on Novel prompting approach for Alice in Wonderland problem
What this is showing me is that we are better understanding what actually is happening inside these LLM models. That we are peeling back the curtain and seeing how the trick is performed. This might be a requirement, to comprehend this "unreasonable effectiveness", if we are to take the next step toward actual "intelligence", if that makes sense at all.
palad1n··on Rodney Brooks on limitations of generative AI
Anyone got a TL;DR on this?
palad1n··on Frame.work laptop now available in Denmark, Finland, and Sweden
Yeah, I decked one out to what I would want and it came to over $3K.
