p45please··on I quit caffeine
I quit cold-turkey around 3 years ago. Caffeine started to affect me differently the older I got, and it wasn't until I was almost hospitalized from dehydration during a house move that I realized I was perhaps a little too dependent on it.

The following couple of weeks after quitting was hell. Migraines, shakes, generally feeling awful. I doubted my decision, but powered through, and am thankful I did.

Waking up is easier, going to sleep is easier, and personally I wasn't a fan of the adrenaline rush feeling I would get after drinking coffee. Your mileage may vary, but if you're getting older and feeling jittery then definitely give it a try.

p45please··on Clinical trial shows that the use of Vitamin D supplement improves sleep quality
Agreed, went caffeine-free almost 3 years ago and feel so much better. Had initial brain fog, and like you described some pretty debilitating headaches and migraines from the caffeine withdrawal, but it passed after a couple weeks.

If you're interested, I found a not-quite-coffee alternative that seems to satisfy my craving. It's a dandelion root substitute, the brand I drink is Dandy Blend. More like instant coffee than a good ground bean coffee but it does the job.

What an interesting response, do you really think obesity is similar to a contagious virus or are you just grasping at straws to support your ideology?

Was getting some Douglas Adams vibes in the first half, very odd but entertaining.
p45please··on Reddit CEO claims TikTok app is 'fundamentally parasitic' and spyware
I don't think he read the article.

The fingerprinting for a lot of these apps is scary, Reddit included. I would like to see how much Reddit does in comparison, like other commenters mentioned.

p45please··on Ember.js Octane Edition
I like Ember.js, been using it since version 1.12, through to 2.x and now 3.x. Had been playing with the beta builds of Octane on the side, glad to see it all coming over to the main build!

Congrats to Kyle and the team. Been using Gatsby in prod for nearly a year now (v1 then migrated to v2), the team is super helpful and responsive to feedback and issues.

p45please··on Ask HN: How many hours/week are you expected to work in SV/NY/other tech hubs?
London: 40hr/week up to 70hr/week, rough contracts and tight deadlines.

Moved to LA 3 years ago, work 40hr/week even though on 5x salary compared to UK. Never felt pressure to work more, but would when required (launches).

Good intention, bad execution.
p45please··on Ask HN: What do you wish you did when you moved to a new city?
Similarly, check out where all the jobs for your industry are or you'll find yourself locked in a year lease commuting 2.5 hours across the city.
