p-t··on Your ePub Is fine
imho for a standard epub there should be as little CSS as possible
p-t··on Building an HTML-first site doubled our users overnight
yeah editing all the footers and navigation parts in html is too annoying to me so i've resorted for my websites to just a back button to a page that has links to everything else lmao
p-t··on WSL 2 is getting faster Windows file system access
i've never noticed slow file access through wsl, but ive also only used it to compile small c programs tbh
p-t··on Mouseless – keyboard-driven control of macOS/Linux/Windows
these still exist on windows though? you just hold alt
p-t··on The newest Instagram “exploit” is the goofiest I've seen
no idea about your account but i would suggest getting email + other accounts for all of your acquaintances asap lmao
p-t··on Coreutils for Windows
Is this only on windows 11 or does it support 10 as well? (i cant access the site rn because of wifi)
p-t··on Stop Ruining It
every day i am more glad i cannot update to 11 because windows 10 seems to be better in every way
p-t··on DuckDuckGo search saw 28% more visits after Google said people love AI mode
i started using duckduckgo after google added ai, and it runs way faster [i use lite.duckduckgo.com :3]

edit: my school blocks all search engines other than google though XD

p-t··on If AI writes your code, why use Python?
tbh python seems really unreadable to me, and i'm saying that as someone who's first [non-Scratch] programming language was that. stuff with syntax closer to C or javascript seems easier to see [C?] where stuff starts and ends
p-t··on Bring Back Idiomatic Design (2023)
the only locale i know about is the windows one that's hidden in some menu that i had to set to japan to get some random application to run, and now all of my backslashes look like yen symbols :P ... maybe i won't get mm/dd/yyyy now!
p-t··on Google removes "Doki Doki Literature Club" from Google Play
i feel like this is going to be really dangerous tbh, especially if it starts blocking informational content
p-t··on Google removes "Doki Doki Literature Club" from Google Play
This is why I generally prefer CW/Content warning; it is basically saying "this is what this contains", instead of putting any implications of it being triggering. So CW: suicide, for example, is just for anyone who doesn't really want to read about suicide at the moment, whether it's because they want a more upbeat story or somebody they knew just died
p-t··on Sam Altman may control our future – can he be trusted?
ive heard that poob has it for you!
p-t··on Windows native app development is a mess
God, i finally understand why people hate on windows xD
p-t··on Windows native app development is a mess
> removal of title bars

they did what??? [i'm still on 10 because 11 won't run on my laptop </3]

p-t··on LibreOffice and the art of overreacting
I honestly forgot there was even a "base" UI to open documents from, i use libreoffice largely for spreadsheets and just open the spreadsheet program directly XD
p-t··on So you want to write an “app” (2025)
> most web apps load faster than their native counterparts these days

maybe i'm doing something wrong, but from what i've noticed, the browser is usually what takes up most of my computer's resources.

also, i assumed the reasoning for using a native app was for offline use, honestly.

p-t··on 10% of Firefox crashes are caused by bitflips
firefox crashes... decently often for me, but it's usually pretty clear what the cause is [having a bunch of other programs open]. every time i can recall my computer bluescreening [in the last year~, since that's how long ive had it] it was because of firefox tho.

this may have something to do with the fact that my laptop is from 2017, however.

p-t··on “Microslop” filtered in the official Microsoft Copilot Discord server
i'd argue a discord is never really "public", since there's still a barrier to entering and it's easy to get banned
p-t··on Apple patches decade-old iOS zero-day, possibly exploited by commercial spyware
i wonder if this could be used to make a jailbreak possible :3
p-t··on I started programming when I was 7. I'm 50 now and the thing I loved has changed
it's more just a personal want to be able to see what I can do on my own tbh; i don't generally judge other people on that measure

although i do think Steve Jobs didn't make the iPhone /alone/, and that a lot of other people contributed to that. i'd like to be able to name who helps me and not say "gemini". again, it's more of a personal thing lol

p-t··on I started programming when I was 7. I'm 50 now and the thing I loved has changed
i agree. it seem like an expectation these days to use AI sometimes... for me i am happy not using it at all, i like to be able to say "I made this" :)
p-t··on TikTok's 'addictive design' found to be illegal in Europe
yeah, the issue is that there really can't be one "do-it-all" tool. even duolingo doesn't really teach grammar iirc [which really means one can't become fluent tbh]. one kinda has to set up the parts by oneselves, but that's a bit difficult to get used to
p-t··on Product and design are the new bottlenecks
how big are these pizzas, i almost always eat 4 [if i'm warming up a frozen one i'd have all of it tbh]
p-t··on TikTok's 'addictive design' found to be illegal in Europe
duolingo is pretty bad overall, sadly most better alternatives [zB: anki flashcards] are a bit less shiny and more difficult to set-up for less tech-oriented people
p-t··on TikTok's 'addictive design' found to be illegal in Europe
i can't really concentrate well on long video content outside of specific cases, so there's that. honestly though i feel like shorts aren't the solution, there should just be more text content [eg: tutorials] in addition to video things. [every time someone says something is "only communicateable through video/audio" i die a little bit inside...]
p-t··on Ask HN: Share your personal website
https://parkingturkeys.github.io/web-sites :3
p-t··on You are not required to close your <p>, <li>, <img>, or <br> tags in HTML
once i had to import some xml and just put it in a hidden div since html allows any tag names XD
p-t··on Slack has raised our charges by $195k per year
[i'm a hack club community member] the slack has thousands of channels and tens of thousands of emojis. also, there are a lot of private channels. from my understanding that's not really possible in discord. also, hack club was started before discord was created.
p-t··on Slack has raised our charges by $195k per year
the point is that the slack isn't just used to communicate important work stuff, it's also used to chat with friends and such.
