ourcat··on Metaverse cheat sheet: Everything you need to know
I find it incredible how this article has no mention of Snow Crash, Neal Stephenson, Second Life or Linden Labs.
ourcat··on How to win at CORS
Very useful info. Thanks!
ourcat··on How to win at CORS
Hi Jake! (I watch your videos ;)) Many times, the (Angular) ServiceWorker has given us CORS headaches on various requests to our APIs and AWS storage files. The only method we've found, after various AWS configs and ngsw-config.json attempts, was to add `ngsw-bypass=true` to all requests. I'll see if I can find the Github issue, where this has come up before.

Incidentally, while you're here, I'm planning on building something which will require use of SharedArrayBuffer. Will adding the (now) required Cross-Origin isolation COOP/COEP headers cause any issues to existing CORS setups?

:)

ourcat··on How to win at CORS
ServiceWorkers also don't play nice with CORS in my experience. We often need to bypass them in Angular when making certain requests.
ourcat··on Gmail password first character is case insensitive on mobile device
You can catch the 'invalidity' of the input with the `oninvalid` JS event, then use that to `e.preventDefault()` and show a message as to why it it failed.

Here's the guy who wrote the original Windows Task Manager explaining this hack : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKQ1X_4JCn0
ourcat··on Gmail password first character is case insensitive on mobile device
Doesn't the HTML input `pattern` attribute help solve this with a RegEx?
ourcat··on Facebook-owned sites were down
Here too. Just had the "We're having some trouble serving your request. Sorry!" error.
ourcat··on Facebook-owned sites were down
Indeed. People seem to forget that when Facebook goes down, it's not just your feed of depressing posts, photos and messages that go away, but also the entire Oculus VR platform, since they demanded a FB account to use Quest headsets.
ourcat··on Unhook: Hide YouTube Recommendations
Recently I've seen an increase in recommended videos which already have a red line across the bottom of the thumbnail, to denote that I've already watched it.
ourcat··on While posting to Tumblr, E and W keys just stopped working
Here's an interesting article on where and why they get commonly used in legal documents and contracts.

https://www.termsfeed.com/blog/all-caps-legal-agreements/

There are also theories out there about why our names appear in all-caps on government documents, relating to the concept of treating an individual as a 'corporation'.

ourcat··on Life-size camel sculptures in Saudi Arabia are older than Stonehenge, pyramids
Thank you. That's got some much better photos. I have to say, I wasn't that convinced by the one used in the Smithsonian article.
ourcat··on Fake: Walmart Announces Major Partnership with Litecoin (LTC)
The walmart-corp.com email used in the 'press release' was registered last month at namecheap (who have now deactivated the account).
ourcat··on An Introduction to Type Level Programming in Haskell
I'm still in the 'feels good' stage with meticulously modelling the types of data I use in Angular with Typescript.

Initially, I couldn't really see the point, but if anything I find it helps with catching errors and response expectations before build-time and also auto-completion/pseudo-documentation/hinting in VSCode.

Now, I love it.

ourcat··on Facebook, Ray-Ban debut picture-taking smart glasses
Bingo.

At least this is up-front from the beginning, unlike what they did with the Oculus Quest. Though, I daresay many people won't realise this is the case until they get a pair and set them up.

ourcat··on Facebook, Ray-Ban debut picture-taking smart glasses
Like they eventually did with thhe Oculus Quest, are these going to need a Facebook account to get any use from them?
ourcat··on An Introduction to Type Level Programming in Haskell
Despite the current https certificate issue, this is also a great introduction to Haskell.

ourcat··on TikTok overtakes YouTube for average watch time in US and UK
Ah I see.

I remember when YouTube had quite a short cap on length years ago (10-15 minutes iirc), which is why I started using vimeo at the time.

ourcat··on TikTok overtakes YouTube for average watch time in US and UK
Wow. Thank you. I had no idea about that. I had assumed it would be much, much shorter.

Their recommendation algorithm is reportedly the envy of many other platforms. I heard that was pretty much what was being bid for at the time offers started floating around.

"YouTube still leads TikTok in overall time spent..."

What's the longest length video that TikTok supports? (I don't use it)

ourcat··on Twitter.com's HTML, which is produced by React Native for Web, explained
I came across this too. Really nice idea.
ourcat··on Ask HN: Will the country you live in ban cryptocurrencies in near-future?
I think countries are more likely to eventually all have their own 'native' coin.
ourcat··on Show HN: Imba – I have spent 7 years creating a programming language for the web
I build all the components and get them working with mostly 'vanilla' styling. Then he brands/styles any he needs to by simply editing the .html and .scss files.

He has no idea about how the TypeScript/JavaScript files work. He doesn't really have to touch them, unless to maybe see what extra data the component model contains if he wanted to dig deeper and display other things.

ourcat··on Sony's Robot Dog, Aibo
That's right. It only read from the pink ones.
ourcat··on Show HN: Imba – I have spent 7 years creating a programming language for the web
This is exactly why I prefer Angular to React.

Our designer wouldn't have been able to deal with HTML markup within the JS files in React. Having the HTML and (S)CSS separated out made life much easier for him in Angular.

(edit: Naturally downvoted due to being slightly critical of React on HN. Which happens every time.)

ourcat··on Sony's Robot Dog, Aibo
The friend/colleague I built it for had been given it for some other unrelated job he had done. So, I asked for it ;)
ourcat··on Sony's Robot Dog, Aibo
Ours was called "Cybinky". After our old (late) cat "Binky".
ourcat··on Sony's Robot Dog, Aibo
I seem to recall there being some activity around creating certain 'dances' etc. for it to perform. Though I can't remember how "offical" or "open" it was. Knowing Sony's MO at the time, probably not that much.

Also, everything had to be stored on the Sony Memory Sticks. (And I seem to remember they too had to be a special type. Not 'Duo' though.)

I still have my ERS-220. Given it in lieu of payment for a website I did years ago.
