osconfused··on Slack raises $120M Led by Google Ventures and KPCB at $1.12B Valuation
I also had slack forced on me after moving from IM to partychat, to hipchat and now slack. I didn't think it was all that great at first. However, it's really grown on me. It works really well for teams that include contractors and it's not the same level of distraction as IM.
osconfused··on Communication between brain networks in people given psilocybin
In my own experience, every amazing engineer I have worked with has had at least one psychedelic experience, usually many.
osconfused··on Bike lanes have sped up car traffic in New York City
Perhaps the solution is to live closer to where you work.

America is the only place in the world where jaywalking is a crime. The notion there is a correct route between two points is rather bizarre. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaywalking

osconfused··on Product Hunt iOS App
Neat and interesting timing. This morning I had a dream about a product hunt app for iOS with a tinder-like interface. "Swipe left" to upvote.
osconfused··on Heroku, is it always about money? /rant
To this point. You can look at something like http://deis.io/ to run on top of Digitalocean. It promises Heroku build pack installs. I've yet to test this software. If you do, would love to hear your experiences. There is also https://mesosphere.io/ and may be others.
osconfused··on Why a Six-Figure Salary No Longer Means You’re Rich
Agreed. Earning over 100K in the US puts you in the top 20%. That's rich.
osconfused··on Ask HN: What language should I learn first?
Where can you run python on Mobile? Also, yes of course it's one vendor. One vendor that also has the world's most profitable app store. OP asked for a language to get started with. In my personal experience, being able to see items move on screen is a lot more intriguing to beginners than doing some server specific tasks like building an API.
osconfused··on Ask HN: What should I do?
Wow, 3 years is a long time for a coding job. I bounce around a lot due to boredom. If you are sick of coding, there is always managing coders as a change of pace. But if you like to code, you might just need a new project or company to re-ignite your passions. Coding for a b2b company is a lot different than a consumer app, or even games.

There is a coding meetup group where I live that I like to visit sometimes to see if I am tired of my project or coding in general.

osconfused··on Ask HN: Is life/success a game of who can handle burnout the longest/best?
I am just starting to meditate more regularly. I am only at about 10-20 minutes before I get bored of it. I think it helps my concentration. It was difficult to find time at first for me to think about nothing. It seemed counter intuitive.

Great advice. I also noticed a positive impact of the quality of my work when I started following similar behavior. I started by forcing myself to rise with the sun, instead of trying to stay up all night.

Learn Swift. Mobile is the future.
