Wow very useful thank you !

> The expenditure of European organisations on cloud and software services is around €400 billion per year for 2024. Of this spending, €330 billion went to US companies, representing 83% of the market share held by a small number of players of a single nationality [1].

For us folks living and working in the EU, we've all heard the same piece of news over and over for the last couple of years. The EU's over reliance on non-EU cloud (mainly US) providers poses an existential risk for businesses and institutions who depend on these services to operate.

Even the EU Commission just launched the EU Cloud and AI Act [2].

As a DevOps Engineer / SRE working in a company based in Brussels, I keep hearing this across the board (through colleagues and friends in other companies). But frankly, I have not seen any initiative that actually takes matters into action.

So I created movetoeu.cloud [3].

The repo contains an opinionated exercise to create a basic network + Kubernetes cluster in OVHcloud.

If you follow the instructions, it'll take you no more than 1h (OVH quirks) to go from zero to running kubectl commands against your fully EU-based infrastructure.

What do you think?

I was the 1st employee of https://leantech.me/ and I saw and helped it grow from the 1st line of code to >1B USD of total processed value.

When I left I was managing 2 sets of regional deployments (dev, stage, prod) and for a little over a year (on my watch) we had >99.9 of uptime (one I'm super proud of)

I'm a full-stack technologist (>10 YoE) (specialising into SRE/Infra/Cloud/Platform Engineering), looking to work with smart, curious and driven individuals.

If you're super passionate about what you're building, and you think I can help. Send me an email -> hey@oschvr.com

Looks like you made it in lovable. It has that characteristic UI.

If so, how much time did it take you?

oschvr··on Show HN: We are building the next DocuSign
The lovable favicon makes me trust it less. It means the code is not done by an accountable human that can do something if my documents get leaked or your site hacked.

For a prototype it's ok.

oschvr··on Show HN: LinkedIn sucks, so I built a better one
I'm in EU, sad it's not available there.

I'm fed up with LinkedIn

oschvr··on Hello Instant Infra
I'm launching a content channel around cloud infrastructure and having fun poking around with the tooling and the services.

I wanna hear what you guys have to say :) Do you think it's a good idea?

ADB logcat is your friend.

Build the app for Android, connect your phone via usb, make sure adb is running and try this https://gist.github.com/giacomocerquone/cc195287d1104c8e288a...

oschvr··on Learnings from our years of Kubernetes in production
This brings so much painful memories of an entire weekend I had to spend renewing cluster certificates one by one whilst being yelled at that we were not making any money.

Good thing our control planes are now managed. I learnt so much about kubeadm and the inner workings of k8s but I'm not sure I wanna go over it again

I just relocated to Brussels and turns out I live 10-15 min by public transport from the venue !

I've been looking forward to attending for a couple years now, and now I definitely can't let this pass.

It would be my first time attending, does anyone want to join me ? I'm slightly embarrassed to admit I don't want to go alone hehe... Hit me up :) (my username @ protonmail.com)

oschvr··on Ask HN: What did you learn last week?
I learnt how to backup data from Prometheus stored in a Persistent Volume in Kubernetes. many ways of doing this but the one I found backs up a tar to a bucket, which is pretty convenient.
