oscarfr··on Kev: Tiny Jev-like family of decision models built on top of Qwen3.5
It's for data processing, privacy, and data retention. And not having to onboard a new vendor and data processor.

Thanks for sharing your findings!

We are working on running our own benchmark of Jev and some of the other models. Our use case is classification that runs in a UI. Currently LLMs have good accuracy, but are too slow (and expensive).

Jev not being available through a cloud provider (Bedrock or similar) makes it more challenging for us to start testing and rolling it out.

oscarfr··on Amazon blocks Meta's Muse AI assistant in new standoff over agentic shopping
I think Amazon wants to protect their position as the go-to place for shopping. The place where people start when they are looking to buy something. Amazon are able to capture value from that through seller fees and advertisement, and they had revenues of $20 billion from advertisement in Q2 2026. There was a recent discussion on this "Amazon tax"¹

If people initiate their shopping through their agent instead, the agent can search any merchant and find the preferred combination of product, price, and delivery. Amazon lose their position as starting point for shopping, and that puts their seller commission and advertisement revenue at risk.

Instead the agent providers will own, and could monetize, the demand.

Found this benchmark for Jev-class models: https://benchmarkheaven.com/jev-models

There are already many Jev-like models in there.

Edit: No affiliation. Just found it and thought others might find it interesting.

oscarfr··on What happens when an astronaut in orbit says he's not coming back?
Is there any such lock mechanism on the doors of an airplane?

I would imagine there could be sever consequences of someone opening an emergency hatch at 10,000m

oscarfr··on Finland will seek NATO membership immediately
Russia made the best move to get Finland and Sweden to join NATO. Did NATO hire Putin?

It almost seems like some sort of reverse psychology thing… Russia saying "We forbid you to join NATO" is one of few things that would get these countries to join NATO. "Don't tell us what to do!"

What is Putin's play?

oscarfr··on Ask HN: What is a good product development stack for rapid launch to users?
We are talking roughly 10s of rows of data per user per day stretching back at most a few years. So no huge volumes. Mostly read.

I would like data to be persisted across user sessions. And refreshed either periodically, on user login, or on user action. Depending on source.

oscarfr··on Ask HN: Why isn't all stock trading done by algorithm?
The simple reason is that people make money by trading stocks. And they make enough to keep doing it instead of doing something else.

It's simple economics. If they wouldn't be able to make money they probably wouldn't trade.
