orndorffgrant··on If I could bring one thing back to the internet it would be blogs (2020)
You should tell your old school friend that their voicemail is full. At least with my carrier, I can only have like ~20 voicemails sitting around. I listen to every voicemail I get but my voicemail inbox filled up and I didn't realize it was full for years (there was no notification or anything). To make space I had to actively go delete voicemails. Of course, deleting them just sent them to a "deleted" folder, which I had to go clear as well.
orndorffgrant··on Ask HN: Why isn't there an open-source FPGA?
That would certainly be a concern. I'm unfamiliar with the details of how patents work, but there are other companies producing FPGAs aside from Xilinx, so it must be possible to create an FPGA without violating the patents, right?
orndorffgrant··on Show HN: JustAuthenticateMe – Simple passwordless authentication-as-a-service
Assuming you (or generic potential customer) are on board with magic link based authn and its benefits, you're right that specifically Okta's early access passwordless authentication[1] offering is a direct competitor. Some reason's you might pick JustAuthenticateMe include:

- Okta is a complex product that handles much more than your use case requires. Setting up a single purpose tool like JustAuthenticateMe will be more straightforward than finding the correct combination of Okta settings.

- JustAuthenticateMe has friendlier pricing that aligns closer with the value you get. Okta charges for monthly active users, while JustAuthenticateme charges for successful logins per month.

- JustAuthenticateMe doesn't keep a database of your users that your app needs to keep in sync with.

- JustAuthenticateMe's web js library is over 10x smaller.

Would love to hear if you think any of those are strong enough reasons to choose a smaller product in certain cases.

Edit: Clarified pricing.
