orbital223··on The Workplace Is Rigged to Favor Morning People
I've seen a lot of research (such as [1]) showing that kids waking up early is actually detrimental to them. I feel the causality goes in pretty much the reverse direction that you're implying: the children are forced to get up early to go to school because their parents need to be free of them early and their parents need to be free of them early because they are forced to be at work early.

Most medicine has expiration dates. If he needs it only every 3-5 years, it's unlikely the pills will still be usable.

> Little interesting things are all around us. But the uncurious will never know.

Apparently the "curious" will never know either unless they accidentally learn the information by accident years later.

orbital223··on Time Till Open Source Alternative
It's amusing that, according to the article, there has been a "compelling open source alternative to" twitter since 2016. Yet, the ending of the article is a request for the reader to share the article on... twitter.

Both deforestation and inequality fall when the economy does better and rise in times of economic crisis.

The economic improvement "under" Lula was mostly due to international factors (the boon in the price of commodities) which is why it collapsed under Dilma (Lula's protegé).

Instead of using the economic surplus that fell into his lap to invest in infrastructure and industrialization, Lula used it to fund the largest corruption scheme in our history.

The worst part is: "The entire proposal ... is budgeted somewhere in the range of $1.5 billion.". So the guy is covering only 13% of the cost and gets complete control.

orbital223··on How many real numbers exist? New proof moves closer to an answer
The cardinality of infinite sets is unintuitive. We can create a one to one correspondence between the Naturals+Sandwich set and the Naturals set (for example, assign sandwich to 0, 0 to 1, 1 to 2, 2 to 3, etc). That means they have the same cardinality.

It's even possible to add an infinite number of elements to an infinite set and retain the same cardinality (the Integers set has the same cardinality as the Naturals set).

> Are there are free tools for becoming a mechanic? No, they got to be paid, either new or used in some form.

But if there were widely available free tools for mechanics, the people making paid ones would have a lot of difficulty getting mechanics to pay for them.
