opinion3k··on Replacing the old battery on rechargeable bike lights
Glad to read this. I have an overpriced umbrella with solar powered lights in it. It used to work great but now the lights only stay on for about 30 seconds now before turning of. I figured something may have gone bad with the solar panel on it - reading this makes me think that changing the battery out could be the fix instead.
opinion3k··on ICE to Pay Thomson Reuters $125M to Find Voter Fraud
Because he's turned them into his own secret police - they even wear masks to hide their identifies. Fun fact - ICE has only been around for a little over 20 years. It's not some sancrosanct entity that couldn't have its necessary functions moved to entities with some sort of actual oversight and eliminated.
opinion3k··on Sam Vimes 'Boots' Theory of Socio-Economic Unfairness
It depends on what brands.

If you're chasing after the ones that are most well known on Instagram, then you're paying for the logo and getting quality that is not that much better than much cheaper stuff.

If you look for lesser known brands that are more expensive but that expense is because of the materials and craftmanship, then it's often worth the money.

opinion3k··on The Importance of Being Idle
We need more businesses run like the co-op models in some European countries where the workers own a large percentage of the business. Or those rare, profitable US companies that are privately held and offer significant ownership stake to their employees with upside (not fake startup options).

I don't expect to ever be in that position, but I couldn't imagine becoming a multimillionaire off the backs of my employees and to keep on stacking more money than I could ever spend just to feel like I'm still winning.

Point is, there's enough money being made to employ just about everyone and at fewer than 40 hours a week, but instead we have multi billionaires with more money than a dozen generations could spend.

opinion3k··on Eat Real Food
it's great to recommend these things but if you're poor and live in a food desert, it doesn't address the actual issues that prevent people from eating healthier: money, living in an area where the bodega or wal-mart are your only food options, corporate interests that want us to eat ultra-processed foods, not having the time or ability to cook, and many more I'm sure.
opinion3k··on Kroger acknowledges that its bet on robotics went too far
I do most the cooking in my house, and the majority of it is meat and produce. I can say from years of experience that it's easy to grab a bad apple if you aren't paying attention or know about food quality, and from the grocery pickers I've seen, they aren't and don't.

A guitarist doesn't just buy some random guitar from amazon - they see it in person and play it. If you cook and care about your food, using a food service just isn't something you'll want to do.

opinion3k··on Roblox is a problem but it's a symptom of something worse
You probably bought or pirated the games you played at the LAN party, maybe once and some DLC. You probably played with at least a few people you knew and the games had a goal - capture the flag or the bases or something - that often you had to work with a team to accomplish.

Roblox is designed from the ground up to sell Robux. Not to promote fun games or anything interesting in the least.

The games are complete brainrot - trying to find servers to get money measured in the billions to spend on rare items to collect to increase the money you earn per second to get more things, etc. And of course if you spend Robux - you can pointlessly accumlate fake billions even faster!

So the games are completely pointless and are nothing like playing Counterstrike or Doom or starcraft at a LAN party.

The events have also caused massive arguments and begging and pleading at my house since Roblox is rarely allowed (and would never be allowed if I had my way...)
