opesorry··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
I do love when things align for me to do the same, but I struggle to enjoy non-fiction so it's uncommon. Narrative non-fiction is particularly enjoyable when I can find it, especially tech, survival, and true crime.

Tech related narrative non-fiction is the pinnacle of reading for me. My top three are Cuckoo's Egg by Cliff Stoll, American King by Nick Bolton, and Countdown to Zero Day by Kim Zetter. OSU Cyber security canon is excellent for finding these but I've read almost everything they list.

If you have any non-fiction suggestions, I'm definitely interested to hear them.

I always have two books going, one ebook and one audible. Currently on a fantasy kick.

The Years of Apocalypse by UraniumPhoenix:

Timeloop fantasy that starts out in a magic university. It's quite a fun read and I'm enjoying how different the MC approaches the timeloop from how I expect I would. She seems quite empathetic which adds an excellent emotional element to the story that I'm enjoying.

Worth the Candle: Through Adversity by Alexander Wales:

I'm a big fan of Alexander Wales. He has an intelligent way of writing plots and characters that I enjoy. This is a meta narrative LitRPG(?) fantasy book. The basic premise is that the MC is sent to a world that has elements of his previous DnD creations. I'm not much of a tabletop RPG person but excited to see where Wales takes this series.

opesorry··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (April 2026)
I'm with you on this. I will hit 3 YoE in June and have been doing excellent in my current role yet having no luck finding a new job. Interviews are hard to come by and I'm a month out on even getting a rejection reply from some companies.
opesorry··on Scammed out of $130K via fake Google call, spoofed Google email and auth sync
Assuming I follow what you want to know, the wikipedia page on email spoofing should provide the info you desire. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_spoofing

I'm pretty surprised gmail didn't flag this at least. When I did it for a class in Uni, it always let me know that the FROM header didn't match the sender since that's a clear attack vector

opesorry··on Reading for pleasure plummets by 40% in the US
E-Readers are phenomenal and I highly recommend them if that interests you.
opesorry··on Ross Ulbricht granted a full pardon
American Kingpin by Nick Bilton is an excellent book covering Silk Road and what makes this unique
opesorry··on Ask HN: What's the "best" book you've ever read?
Worm is outstanding. It's responsible for getting me into reading which has shaped my life since
