op00to··on Today is when the Amazon brain drain sent AWS down the spout
IBM is a bank masquerading as a tech company.

My theory is someone fucked up. There’s literally no information that gives us any additional insight to what happened yet.
op00to··on TurboTax’s 20-year fight to stop Americans from filing taxes for free (2019)
You have to balance the books somehow. I'm not saying "pay for forever wars on the backs of small business owners." I'd like to see a personal wealth tax of 80% of any wealth over a certain benchmark ($50,000,000 maybe?), and 80% profit taxes for any companies with more than $1 billion in net profits. In my ideal world, small business owners should not really have to pay much in taxes, with the largest companies paying the lion's share.

> How would the government be able to know the income and deductions for small businesses

Determine the amount of average deductions for small businesses, benchmark against however much money you want to extract from small businesses, then give all small businesses a blanket standard deduction.

Literally the first umpteen hits on Google says this happens with Tesla:

op00to··on Software update bricks some Jeep 4xe hybrids over the weekend
On a recent one week trip with my family, we went through FOUR Grand Wagoneers, each one with another show-stopping problem.

op00to··on A macOS terminal command that tells you if your USB-C cable is bad
I bought the coolest, fattest USB-C cables, and I failed to read the description enough to hear they only support USB 2 speeds! They work fine for the specific use I have for them, but I wish I could use ‘em for everything!
op00to··on Vectrex Mini
Nothing matches the pinpoint of light dancing around that Vectrex provides. I'm not sure it's feasible to sell something based on vector graphics like Vectrex did, but it would be way cooler!
op00to··on Playball – Watch MLB games from a terminal
Oh no, you gotta do it in one of those spiral bound scorecard notebooks. App? Pshh!
op00to··on Playball – Watch MLB games from a terminal
I love scoring games when I go to a ballgame. It keeps me engaged, and it's fun to see how I mess up compared to the professional scorers. Did you do MLB scoring? If so, do you do scoring if you see a game now, or are you sick of it? :D
op00to··on N8n added native persistent storage with DataTables
Might be easy to build, but impossible to maintain.
op00to··on What if I don't want videos of my hobby time available to the world?
I have practiced "street photography" for years, where I purposefully take pictures of people on the street. Sometimes people ask what I'm doing, I tell them, and they say "cool can I see the pictures"? Sometimes I send them a file or whatever. No one's gotten all out of sorts over it.
op00to··on What if I don't want videos of my hobby time available to the world?
I don’t think you’re a “dick” for politely asking people not to film you, unless you’re unnecessarily aggressive about it.
op00to··on What if I don't want videos of my hobby time available to the world?
The evidence I present is that I have never seen someone complain about someone else filming in public. I’m not sure that the articles position on HN says anything about the majority opinion on a topic, only that it’s of interest.
op00to··on What if I don't want videos of my hobby time available to the world?
What if the dog was on the lam?
op00to··on What if I don't want videos of my hobby time available to the world?
Huh? Hanging clothes is absolutely accepted in the US. I have a clothesline.
op00to··on What if I don't want videos of my hobby time available to the world?
Sure. They could simply ask you nicely and accept whatever the result is. This is the case now.
op00to··on What if I don't want videos of my hobby time available to the world?
OP didn’t respect his fellow hobbyists by asking them to not film him. Why should OP expect respect in return?
op00to··on What if I don't want videos of my hobby time available to the world?
You sound like you may need some sort of mental health assistance if you no longer leave your house, especially because of fear of some sort of global dragnet using Facebook videos that you may be present in. I hope you can get some peace.
op00to··on What if I don't want videos of my hobby time available to the world?
It’s solved. You can take pictures in public in the US. That’s part of our fundamental freedoms.

Dog shit is a part of life. Shitty people are a part of life.
op00to··on Cloudflare Email Service: private beta
This does you no good for the months or years it takes to "warm up" your email while your messages are getting thrown into the trash.
op00to··on Cloudflare Email Service: private beta
I was part of a team ran EMail services for a ~15,000 person campus of a ~80,000 person university in the late 90s and early 00s. It was a full-time job for a team of people to keep things running, up to date, control spam, etc. It was a minefield 25 years ago! Literal years before GMail was a thing.

> makes you more independent from big tech

Citation requested. Big tech considers your IP address dishonorable, and blackholes your emails. How independent are you now when you can't email any providers that use blacklists?

> contributes to reducing the power of big tech

Again, citation requested. Big tech will just blackhole your emails and you'll only find out when your users complain.

op00to··on Cloudflare Email Service: private beta
It's not really a big deal to MITM email anyway.
op00to··on That Secret Service SIM farm story is bogus
You have a mind for government work!
op00to··on That Secret Service SIM farm story is bogus
I work directly with telcos. All text messages, calls, etc go through telco systems that are in data centers far from the towers. There is no benefit for one cell phone being geographically close to another to send spam messages.
op00to··on That Secret Service SIM farm story is bogus
No, that’s not a thing.
op00to··on That Secret Service SIM farm story is bogus
You do not need to be within 35km of someone to send them a spammy text message.
