ondra··on Anthropic bans 'abusive or cruel behavior' towards Claude
> Reviews of this literature typically conclude that there is evidence that viewing violent media is associated with aggression

Right at the start of the abstract of the second article. As the parent says, there is a wide consensus on this.

ondra··on Barcodes are about to go extinct
Now that self-checkout passes large part of the scanning costs to the end user, this doesn't seem to be a big issue anymore.
ondra··on Cheap GPS jammers are filling the world with navigation dead zones
How is additional paperwork supposed to help? Jamming is already illegal and usage of ISM bands is quite strictly regulated.
ondra··on Government orders GitHub to remove Bluetooth-based chat app Bitchat: Jack Dorsey
No, it seems that they are banned in North Korea.
ondra··on EU to legislate about Chat Control behind closed doors
This is obviously not the point if the surcharge disappears on packages with total price over 150 €.
ondra··on Founding a company in Germany: €9600, 152 days and I still can't send an invoice
I do not know about this being the case in Germany only; I am in a nearby country and the system is very similar. I also do think it is insane, as the fee is on top of the real estate agent fees, it is specified by the law and unavoidable, and I get a service I do not really need or want and it costs a lot of money.
ondra··on Intel Arc Pro B70 Review
This is incorrect, prompt processing is compute bound.
ondra··on Not buying another Kindle
Note that Boox does not release the sources for the GPL software they redistribute.
ondra··on Windows 11 Notepad to support Markdown
This might be the reason for Markdown support, LLMs love it.
ondra··on Linux From Scratch ends SysVinit support
> Developers don't have to package their project for all distros

Essentially nobody uses the sources we provide. Literally nobody packages them. A few people use our rpm and deb packages, but the vast majority uses a (slightly broken and outdated) docker image built by third party.

You might not like it, and I certainly do not, but unfortunately containers seem to be the best alternative that just works, compared to everything else.

ondra··on Rubio stages font coup: Times New Roman ousts Calibri
> It was Blinken that arbitrarily introduced

The _second paragraph_ of TFA gives a reason for the introduction. Please explain how you came to the conclusion that the change was arbitrary.

ondra··on APT Rust requirement raises questions
Pentium Pro is the first i686 CPU, so you should be fine.
ondra··on Evaluating the Infinity Cache in AMD Strix Halo
GPT-OSS 120B uses native 4 bit representation, so it fits fine.
ondra··on Garmin beats Apple to market with satellite-connected smartwatch
Works with a Samsung watch and their app. (I wouldn't really recommend it, though.)
ondra··on Gemma 3 270M: Compact model for hyper-efficient AI
The context is garbage and full of "Mount Everest" already, so the model goes with that. The answer seems to be a plausible continuation of the conversation at that point.
ondra··on Qwen3-235B-A22B-Thinking-2507
Yes. The original DeepSeek-R1 answered those questions just fine. The newer models seem to be much more brainwashed.
ondra··on Show HN: KVSplit – Run 2-3x longer contexts on Apple Silicon
Is this any different from using --cache-type-k and --cache-type-v?
ondra··on The C23 edition of Modern C
MIPS is still quite alive in consumer networking hardware.
ondra··on Elon Musk reportedly had his own tweets prioritized out of jealousy
I block every ad I see, seems to make the rest of them go away.
ondra··on Gas Leak in the Baltic Sea
Biden most certainly did not announce he would do _this_.
ondra··on Show HN: "q", a DNS query tool with support for UDP, TCP, DoT, DoH, DoQ and ODoH
Could be useful, but not _that_ useful for me to consider polluting my global shell namespace with this name.
ondra··on For what are the Windows A:\ and B:\ drives used?
32-bit Windows 7 runs 16-bit programs just fine.
ondra··on Why GIMP is Inadequate
CRTs will show what the RAMDAC on the video card feeds them. They shouldn't have limitations like this.
ondra··on Google Chrome for Linux goes stable
I'm a fan of Konqueror myself. For some reason nobody seems to use it. Konqueror is stable, fast, doesn't use much memory and renders everything just fine.
ondra··on Sarcastic Font

ondra··on Oil Drop Navigates Complex Maze
No, all-pairs shortest path problem is in P as well.
ondra··on Add multitouch gesture support to laptops running Linux
Unfortunately it's only an imitation of multitouch - http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/news/item/9051_Multi-touch_on... is IMHO much more impressive.
ondra··on Nethack - Best Game Ever (2000)
ADoM is also good, but closed source unfortunately. Can't play it on my PDA.
ondra··on How to beat that exhausted feeling
Should have gone to http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=593729, my bad. I don't seem to be able to delete it, why?
ondra··on How to beat that exhausted feeling
It's making me fucking sleepy. I can't procrastinate well enough now.
