edit: Did you have default deny third party req?
I hope this is correct but I am unsure. People will probably not realize this is the case, and it is unlikely to affect _too_many_ people_ so the brand goodwill won't be that damaged. This is the same thing google does with search results, maybe not so much with competitors (maybe they do, I don't know) but they do penalize things they don't like. I remember the rapgenius penalty and to be clear I am not suggesting that this is the same thing as in the article, but to your point, I hope users get angry about this but I am unsure to what extent it will hurt them.
i am. ;)
While the attention to detail is lacking, it is becoming even more walled off. I reapect that because the market wants all there stuff synced all the time. Howecer, i don't. I dont need my search results sent to apple so i can get recommendations, i font want every message i text to be an imessage so it goes through there servers as well as att. I am disappoinr.
I used game center as an example. Of coure the launchctl list uses an insane amount of resources for apple stuff. I also deleted several other apps and a few other things. Shit, running monolingual alone saved me ~1.2GB.
So thanks. I agree as well. If possible I will turn it back on after.
I will look into those suggestions. Do to the differences and additions in caputan little snitch does not work. I havent connected to internet yet whoch ice floor needs to be configured properly. Does SOPHOS UTM work well even as a free version. It is annoying when snitch lets traffic out after 3grs.
As sad as this will sound, I cant afford a VPN. I set one up myself using OpenDNS and tunnelblick, which I should probably spin back up. Any other security suggestions? I can only use free stuff ATM .
> a really good reason?
I think access to my own filesystem is good enough. I admit when I looked at the reviews, I made sure there were no major issues before upgrade but missed this "sys integrity" thing.
Edit: upgrading to the appstore version. Not sure if this was GM specific, or they are locking the Os down even more.
Edit2: if you forget your password immeadiately and use the resetpassword feature in terminal, keychain breaks, can't find "login". Prob fix it with permissions. Note, NOT the case. Had to make an entire new user.
Also, with >30mbps connection, 850mb upgrade is taking ~4hrs. They must be getting slammed.
Edit : Boot args didnt fix. Trying carutul disable at recovery terminal.
Bash-3.2# csrutil diasable
Seems to work.
Edit n: seperate and unrelated, system does not seem to restart well. Eiter hangs or takes ages.
edit: Sorry forgot to make the point. Paul Graham says it in the Pycon 08' talk, it was built for guys at Bell labs to ask one another to get lunch. The people on the early internet were often scientists, engineers and academics and thus had mutual respect for one another. Stallman talks about not even having passwords on stuff, these were academics who were personally or professionally friendly so security wasn't at the forefront of the design.

Maybe they are gearing up for a google merger or something. They are doing their mailbox app which looks cool and integrates storage and syncing. However, once again
1. Why would I use a mail client that only interfaces with gmail and outlook?
2. What is the point of the sync, this is default by most mail providers and clients?
3. Why would I want mail storage? I actually don't know what my mailbox limit is, but I certainly would not want to have the amount of .txt documents that could fill that up. Also, this is basic functionality. You can't pull me on your platform, google has the users you want and are better positioned, I still don't understand how you make money as a company.
If we assume that either all cars have the software priced in, a "good actor" would allow you to pay less for "blizzard navigation software" if you lived in S. California.
At this point, Tesla is so new that they will make it as attractive as possible and push all of their updates for free. I also have a high degree of trust, at least relative to other auto companies, in Tesla. One would imagine GM, or another less scrupulous company would try to do something like this if they were the front runners.
edit: Point taken though. I am also not keen on some of the other car and boat manufacturers producing identical engines, and then having you "pay" to unlock more horepower.
I now wonder if you will just pay $199 for the "blizzard package" or something. I suspect Tesla wouldn't do something like this, but just like Mosaic, they get to shape a lot of the early thought behind this.
Syncing. This is a default piece of all browsers, the 2 main operating systems win/os x, and comes standard on most phones. This is like the browser, you can have it for free so you stay in our ecosystem. Mega GIVES you 50GB of storage completely free NOW, and it is likely more secure. I don't know enterprise as well as I know consumer, but at some point I would imagine the choice is between buying a few SSDs and having an internal server, or setting up your own secure system via VPN. There can't be much room for this.
I have gamecenter.app deleted, airdrop and bluetooth disabled and many of the sharing and push notification services are disabled. I have fairly decent connectivity and not much seems to change after disabling awdl0, a speedtest seems pretty similar.
I am now really interested. Is there a way I can run a better speedtest, and also check if these issues you describe are happening because it sounds as if it is sporadic. Also, is there a way to use something other than bonjour/mdnsresponder via wi-fi? I could not find anything which is why I still use it unfortunately.
edit: Also, almost forgot.
> This was a bug for which we know the root cause and for which a patch was actually developed.
What? I have seen issues surrounding coreaudiod but none of them are referenced in your post. The post actually explained the iOS connectivity issues I am having but doesn't seem related to a glitch in the core services daemon, which seems to affect some users, and was almost certainly self-inflicted. Now, I want to test my connectivity to confirm, but it seems alright most of the time.
The point I was sort of facetiously making here was that the people who implement these things don't think about it the way we do. They probably don't feel ashamed and do it out of a misplaced sense of patriotism, power or coercion(if they got caught doing wire crimes).
More granularly, if you believe you are protecting America from a 9/11 scale attack I could certainly see trading away some of your fellow countrymen's privacy.
These aren't my personal views on privacy or security I was making the point that some engineers won't be ashamed implementing this sort of stuff. I am pro freedom and privacy to be clear, and, I wouldn't make the above trade.
edit: wiredfool pointed this out above, as I was writing this. Having purchased 2 equally specked computers at the same time and experiencing differing results. After upgrading from MAvericks, I personally experienced significantly better battery life. I have edited launch daemons and blocked some outgoing connections which caused coreaudiod to go into an infinite loop using >80% of the cpu. This KILLED my battery and performance. After fixing this issue, both of those metrics were amazing.
> I bet 90% of people are against police comitting crimes
Survey Question: Would you agree or disagree with a police officer or federal agent holding a suspected terrorist longer than 24 hours without charging them with a crime?
This is the sort of question that I think more than 10% might agree with. Then, police have endorsement to commit crimes which trend up proportionately to what they can get away with. Substitute terrorist for paedo or rapist, etc. However, this question negates the fact that the implementation and scope may be larger than how it is framed.
I hope 90% of people would uphold AT MINIMUM, the US constitutional laws in the bill of rights. But you and I might be disappointed
> Spying on other spying agencies seems like 100% fair game
> This is legitimate activity for the NSA
> I'd be pretty angry at NSA for being incompetent if they didn't spy on foreign intelligence agencies.
Correct. This is what spy agencies do. Edward Snowden is an American Hero, and it is a shame what has happened beyond the obvious. His name is invoked for shock headlines, and at this point there is almost no reaction to these disclosures and that is worrying. If there was a way to lower the power distance between "Government Actors" and citizens, we could expend resources cooperatively instead of competitively.
Until then, there will be numerous government agencies AND companies, on many continents and countries, building systems to collect and analyze your data creating a single point of failure. That sounds counter intuitive, but if we assume all of your data is essentially uniform and the Chinese/NSA/BND etc. all have essentially the same data. If even one of those places has a breach event, your data will be in the hands of bad individual actors. This leaves aside, that the data is already in the hands of questionable players.
To conclude, the Snowden docs were illuminating but no longer hold the shock they once did. Not much has changed. The initial disclosure confirmed for a lot of us what we already knew, and publicized it to those who didn't. The ongoing disclosures are marginal now and really a function of leveraging Snowden's name for ad-traffic. Hopefully, going forward there will be a framework for protecting privacy that regular, everyday people can easily use. Until then, these disclosures are just a disheartening reminder of the inability to seperate gov. tyranny from legitimate activity.
[0]Snowden is living in an undisclosed location in Russia, a country hostile to the US, and barred from entering America without being tried for treason. Disappointing.
