omfg··on Amazon Blocks Sellers from Using FedEx Ground for Prime Shipments
We had to switch to FedEx this year because Amazon overloaded UPS so much they couldn’t get their overnight deliveries to the destination in time.
omfg··on Walmart sues Tesla over fires at stores fitted with its solar panels
Wasn’t this work done during the SolarCity years?
omfg··on States Can Require Internet Tax Collection, Supreme Court Rules
That’s a bit of a leap. It looks like fully automated compliance from the existing services. From collection to remittance is about 3-5k a year. With more competition it will likely become cheaper.
omfg··on States Can Require Internet Tax Collection, Supreme Court Rules
Unfortunately they don’t have transparent pricing. So it’s a bit of a mystery. We were in the middle of getting a quote but then found TaxJar thanks to this thread and are going to try that. I prefer the pricing being up front.

We’ve been looking at tech solutions for calculation / remittance. So far only found Avalara. I’d be surprised if PayPal, Stripe, and others won’t step into this now that it’ll be fairly profitable.
omfg··on If you opened your PayPal account before you were 18, close it
They definitely have a ticketing system, and they do have support that knows what they're doing. Maybe it's just business support or something? We haven't run into issues like this when we call.
omfg··on If you opened your PayPal account before you were 18, close it
Do people not realize PayPal has phone support? It's not some black hole of support. Just call them up like a normal company... they've been helpful for any odd issues we've had in the past.
omfg··on I returned my 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar
He says the only thing he wants is a better keyboard and retina display.

So he wants the 12" MacBook which has been out for over a year now... Why did he even buy the new 13" MBP in the first place?

omfg··on How Florida's electricity utilities are manipulating voters to oppose solar
Interesting. I haven't seen one vote Yes sign or commercial. But vote No is pretty much everywhere.
omfg··on Attempting to disclose a social engineering vulnerability to Instagram
I did try reaching out to some employees on LinkedIn. While I saw some profile views none actually replied back. I'm sure there has to be a team at Instagram who handles this stuff but finding / contacting them has been incredibly difficult. Starting to run out of ideas and the exploit is still active.
omfg··on Ask HN: Anyone else having no email deliver with SendGrid?
Phone support said emails sold probably start going out Monday. But maybe Wednesday. If we switched to a Pro account it'd still be a few days for that IP to 'warm up'. We had no choice but to switch to Mandrill.
omfg··on Ask HN: Anyone else having no email deliver with SendGrid?
No emails going out over here either. Our customers are complaining. Might be time to switch back to MailChimp.
omfg··on Heroku Kafka
They were saying the same thing when we left 2 years ago.
omfg··on Paypal froze our funds, then offered us a business loan
Very weird. Perhaps their European service differs?

I've never had to call them to set anything up. Black Friday they handled our volume with no hiccups. I can't remember if there's been a time when their endpoint was down for us.

UI and dispute resolution is personal preference. I think the new interface is nice. Much faster than the old one. Easier to use. Search works. We only search by email address / last name though.

Dispute resolution through other vendors, like Braintree before being acquired, was handled via snail mail and fax. In comparison PayPal's process is amazing. You also didn't have a chance in hell of winning a chargeback with Braintree. At least PayPal offers some protection and will see the process through. If your customer wants their money back without contacting you they can do it anytime they please. That doesn't have anything to do with PayPal.

omfg··on Paypal froze our funds, then offered us a business loan
We've been using PayPal for over 10 years. High volume. No complaints. Their dispute resolution service is better than others we've tried in the past (Braintree, BluePay). Fees are solid. Customer support team are pretty on top of things (if you feel like picking up a phone).

Seems like people like to pick on PayPal because they want to see the new 'startups' win. But PayPal doesn't have to lose for them to win.

To expand. We thought about switching to Stripe once. Implementation was fairly annoying compared to PayPal's which was surprising considering how loved they are by the dev community. Their fees were much higher. Support couldn't answer some relatively easy questions. Stupid turnaround time for bank deposits.

I can understand how getting setup with a Stripe branded payment form is easy and saves some hassle for a new project. But as an established business they don't bring much to the table. We passed and skipped the obligatory 'X Sucks Because Y' article.

It's just an automated ad promoting a product. I'm sure that company saw other ads when logging in on different days. Is it silly that they advertise it on high risk accounts? Maybe.. but it's nothing nefarious.
omfg··on Majority of Renters Are Not Saving for Down Payment: Freddie
Not to mention the less you put down the more you're going to pay in interest over the long haul.
omfg··on Meet Model X
Pricing for standard models was noted to be only 5k more than Model S equivalent.
omfg··on Radium – The Music Editor
Might want to change the name, Radium is an internet streaming application that has been around for years. People might find it confusing, I did..: http://catpigstudios.com
omfg··on Tesla Energy
If Peak / Non-peak is smoothed out, one could argue prices may fall.
omfg··on Introducing Snapcash
Or pushing the 'cash for pics / videos' .. industry? further. It already exists, now it's even easier.
omfg··on Twitpic is shutting down
That does seem pretty crazy that they wouldn't just buy another domain and keep things running. My guess is it actually has nothing to do with Twitter or Trademarks. They likely ran out of capital and are giving up.
omfg··on Update to Celebrity Photo Investigation
If anyone wants to setup 2FA for their Apple ID here's their support page on it: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5570
omfg··on Uber Opens Its API
It seems to offer a convenience for the services integrating with it that wasn't possible before. If it's a nice addition for the customer then they get value out of it.
omfg··on Braintree V.Zero SDK – Faster integration, drop-in UI, and pay with PayPal
I don't quite understand the recent developments at Braintree. We were using both them and PayPal for awhile before deciding to turn out card transactions over to PayPal also as it would secure a better rate. Meanwhile BrainTree has been working to make it easier to split processing between the two. Is the end goal here to make sure you're paying the highest rate? Why wouldn't you only use PayPal?
omfg··on Laravel Forge – PHP Platforms On Linode, DigitalOcean, AWS, Rackspace
Is there anything like this for Python / Django? I've come across similar service for Ruby / Rails but not Python yet..
omfg··on Become a Glass Explorer on Tuesday April 15
Considering their promo video basically puts it up against a GoPro mounted to your head, I'd say they've kind of given up hoping to achieve anything greater than 'life recorder'.
omfg··on What's stopping Elon Musk from becoming Tesla's largest franchisee?
Interesting. Thanks.
omfg··on Introducing StandDesk [video]
Instead of attacking their product, maybe Google the benefits of standing or light walking during the day in re: to diabetes, heart disease, so forth..

A standing desk is a great way to encourage people to get up and move while they work instead of sitting 8 hours a day. And at 399 this sounds like a great solution to get more people up and about.

As someone who checks in to see what's new (and affordable) in the world of stand up desks each month I'm really looking forward to seeing how this pans out.
