omervk··on But why can't I send people their passwords?
Thanks, I've added that to the FAQ. :)
omervk··on But why can't I send people their passwords?
Wow, thanks for all of your points and suggestions! Unfortunately, I'll only be able to attend to them in an hour or so, so please bear with me and I promise personal attention to each any every point made here.

If anyone can gather this sort of information, we'll gladly publish it :)

One more very important thing that I neglected to mention is how you can help:

- Submit offenders - Spread the word (we're also on Facebook and Twitter (@plntxtoffenders) - Contact offending sites and let them know they're on the list

omervk··on Passwords in plain text
How would one gather that information? What form of evidence would you accept?

We'd like to refrain from asking people to hack into sites just to figure out their hashing scheme :)

omervk··on Passwords in plain text
That sounds lovely! Can you help us either in making it or recommending someone who might be able to?
omervk··on Passwords in plain text
We've covered length limits before (and entered it into our mandate), since those limits are many times created by placing the password into a fixed-width field in the database.
omervk··on Passwords in plain text
We have a few of those :)
omervk··on Passwords in plain text
99.99% of people won't do that. We're trying to make the Internet safer for them.

Yes, this is also explained in a link from our About page here: http://plaintextoffenders.com/post/7006690494/whats-so-wrong...

TL;DR - it's still a security issue (albeit smaller), we've included it in our mandate, please don't do it.

Hey guys, I'm @omervk, one of the co-founders and the maintainer of PTO. Always a pleasure to be featured on the front page of HN.

You're welcome to ask me questions, though we've covered most on our about page (http://plaintextoffenders.com/about). The one we haven't is usually "Is there an API/better search/new site coming?" to which the answer is that we're both doing this in our spare time and though we really want to create something better to host this very important content, we can't spare the time. If you've got time and want to volunteer to create this new site, please let me know. :)

omervk··on T-Mobile USA storing passwords in clear?
Unfortunately, since Tumblr's search is completely broken, I would recommend searching for the domain name on Google with the modifier "site:plaintextoffenders.com".

For instance, to search for the site something.com, google "something site:plaintextoffenders.com" (sans quotes). I usually remove the TLD because many sites use lots of different TLDs (which we try to find when posting).

omervk··on T-Mobile USA storing passwords in clear?
I'm one of the founders of plaintextoffenders.com and just came in to point that out myself. So happy you beat me to it ;)
omervk··on Placeholder Image Service with Curated CC-licensed Images from Flickr
Cute service, but if the name's not a joke, then it's pretty unfortunate :)
omervk··on Why open floorplans are bad for programming
Open floor plans mean that there are no rooms, only one big one (with half-height barriers if you're especially lucky).

Meeting rooms and rooms for management are usually not part of this arrangement, because, you know, management has to work.

Just to note - we have talked about it before here: http://plaintextoffenders.com/post/7006690494/whats-so-wrong...

omervk··on RethinkDB example apps
Let me know via twitter: @omervk
omervk··on RethinkDB example apps
I really like RethinkDB, but the lack of a driver for JVM languages (Java, Scala, etc.) is a showstopper for me. I read that you're revamping your driver architecture and am anxiously looking forward to a JVM driver (more than willing to write a Scala-friendly wrapper - let me know if you're interested).
