omarchowdhury··on Launch HN: Freshpaint (YC S19) – Automated, Retroactive Alternative to Segment
How are they going to track him if none of their requests are ever loaded on his end?

Presumably we have different definitions of opting out. I was thinking more of the DIY type. It's certainly more reliable than to trust the people you don't trust not to track you because you tell them not to.

I just think that parent knows very well how to opt out of being tracked on his own.
omarchowdhury··on Launch HN: Freshpaint (YC S19) – Automated, Retroactive Alternative to Segment
Parent's HN profile indicates a 2009 registration date and whose Keybase reveals they're a software dev... I'd bet he knows how to block javascript and/or maintain a host files block list. But I'm being assumptive.

> But investors ultimately care about ROI, and if you didn't invest in Google before the dot com bust then there's a very good chance your entire fund failed.

Google is up 4000% since its 2004 IPO and 1000% from local bottom during the housing bubble crash. Didn't even need to be a VC to get access to VC level gains buying GOOG.

omarchowdhury··on Excite CEO: Why Excite didn't buy Google (2014) [audio]
Key points: Excite's CEO passed on purchasing Google for $750K + 1% of Excite's stock because as a condition of the acquihire deal, Larry Page demanded Excite's tech stack be replaced with Google's. While the financial terms of the deal were acceptable to both parties, the deal fell apart due to Larry's request: Excite tested Google's search results against theirs and at the time found no material difference warranting such a drastic change in their business.

The point isn't that there is a level of abstraction, but the kind of abstraction. The abstraction of paper money as opposed to metals comes with the potential for abuse through unrestrained printing.

I agree. The common definition of genius seems to be one who is imbalanced, but still produces something of value.

The tone is your own projection, as is the assertion that I presented an opinion as fact. I don't see evidence for those two things. Now, you're presenting your own opinion as fact.

As for the following disingenuity: "the complete lack of any information existing within the current comprehensive knowledge of mankind itself," I pointed you to shroomery.org where you can find people's attitudes towards meditation and psychedelics and a cross section thereof that would corroborate my initial statements. It would be your own shortsightedness to not include these first hand reports within the "current comprehensive knowledge of mankind."

And as someone who acknowledged that they derive signal from upvotes and downvotes, surely you would appreciate the notion that perhaps my premise is the top comment in this thread because people agree with it out of their own experience and rationality.

To dispel paranoia, I'm not the one downvoting you: https://prnt.sc/ptuh4f

I accept your idea that I could have been more rigorous in my initial post. I'm also not against pedantry. I just didn't see it as a fruitful line of inquiry in this context, seeing as how my original post became uneditable. Otherwise I would have edited it to make it clear that YMMV and I'm in no position to make absolute statements about subjective realities, although I do think that this is obvious (since I was offering a possible risk, and not a guaranteed outcome) and not something that needed to be dissected.
