olyjohn··on Cops Can Bypass iPhone's Automatic Reboot to Get into Locked Phones
Yeah... that could be an option you configure.
olyjohn··on How I changed teaching after AI managed to do all my homework assignments
But won't be reviewed by a human. They'll instead just rely on the AI output. Just like the students.
olyjohn··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
How inauthentic. If you don't remember someone's name, just say so. Ask them again and try harder next time. If I see you with glasses on, and your eyeballs looking above my head I'm going to walk away from you.
olyjohn··on Whirlpool Washer Transmission Repair (2007)
Front loaders also get moldy and stink because they have to be sealed up so tightly. If you're not there to immediately pull out the clothes after the cycle, you're screwed. And in a small laundry room there isn't always room to let the door stay open to dry out the inside.
olyjohn··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
Its just an excuse people use to keep using thier beloved shiny brand.
olyjohn··on Android 17 is the first since 3.x to add new APIs without releasing to the AOSP
We did it before. Thanks to Firefox we broke the IE6 monopoly even on Windows.
olyjohn··on The Beauty of Roundabouts
The footprint is a cost problem once. They don't need power, computers, or technicians to come out and maintain the equipment constantly.
olyjohn··on The Beauty of Roundabouts
The advantages aren't "theoretical." It's 100% proven that they're safer, cheaper over the long term, and flow more traffic than a red light.
olyjohn··on Ask HN: Are others seeing Google's reCAPTCHA rejecting Firefox users?
At the minimum, stop using goddamn email addresses for the login.
olyjohn··on Ask HN: Are others seeing Google's reCAPTCHA rejecting Firefox users?
Then you don't need to automate it, and you can just manually solve the captcha and log in.
olyjohn··on “It works better in the app”
Excuse me? Why does Tesla need to be involved at all? Take the title to the DMV and transfer it.
olyjohn··on GitHub Outage Tracker: Is GitHub Cooked?
Yeah I don't feel bad for Microsoft, but I don't feel bad for people who keep paying them for it either. This has been going on forever now. Nothing will happen until people start leaving. I don't honestly understand why so much shit is on GitHub when there are so many alternatives, anyways. It's fucking git! Can't people do or try anything different, ever?
olyjohn··on CoMaps: The Offline App That Guided Rescuers Without a Signal in Venezuela
Wait, I just used the tracking the other day and generated a GPX from it. It also drew me an elevation map and gave me some other info about the trip. Is there some other tracking that it can't do?
olyjohn··on 'Never seen this level of objection': Scotland pushes back against datacentres
What, all 6 people who work at the datacenter?
olyjohn··on OpenAI restores 5-hour Codex and Work limits for ChatGPT Plus users
At least minutes on AOL was honest. If it was today it would be "Unlimited AOL" with a limit of 10 hours, then throttle you back to 300 baud.
olyjohn··on Nitter and XCancel receive cease and desist notices
You mean give them my e-mail and phone number so they can shit that all up too? No thanks.
olyjohn··on Nitter and XCancel receive cease and desist notices
It's called "The Web" and every government org pretty much already has a website. All they have to do is publish something on it.
olyjohn··on Nitter and XCancel receive cease and desist notices
We are talking about organizations here who are communicating with the public.
olyjohn··on New Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra
Nobody calls a PS4 a computer. We all know it is internally with the hardware, but the whole package makes it not a computer.
olyjohn··on New Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra
Also remoting into a Mac sucks on anything that isn't a Mac. It runs like shit when using any VNC client that isn't Apple's.
olyjohn··on New Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra
Pretty sure hibernation is dead. Deep sleep states use such nominal power, I think they decided it wasn't worth it.
olyjohn··on Building a backyard office, the build and cost breakdown
I mean I was just in Costco and they were selling some 8x12 sheds for like $6500. They weren't even finished inside. Just a floor, 4 walls and a roof. No foundations, no insulation, no sheetrock, no power. I suck at carpentry and even I could build that in a few days.
olyjohn··on Malware infects Android-based automotive head unit firmware
They are always wired to battery power though. The point is that it could look powered off, and still be running a proxy.
olyjohn··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
Are you just making that up?
olyjohn··on People sick, 57 hospitalized in 32 states courtesy of contaminated jalapeños
The red sauce will be your AnOS.
olyjohn··on New Casio F-B100W – Upgrade to the iconic F-91W after 40 years
How does the Tacoma differ from the Hilux? I know there are some slight styling and engine differences for different markets, but pretty sure its still mostly a Hilux.
olyjohn··on The Amazon tax
Best for you, or best for Amazon is the question.
olyjohn··on California's new tire efficiency rules could save drivers $1B a year
Truckers pay for hundreds of thousands of dollars in fuel every year. They pay way more gas tax than you do.
olyjohn··on California's new tire efficiency rules could save drivers $1B a year
People already don't do this, you think worse tires are gonna help?
olyjohn··on Quake Shareware, a CD-ROM just a little too full
Yeah, and I remember if you didn't have the audio cable that went from the CDROM into your sound card, you would never hear the tracks. It wasn't your computer decoding the music, the CDROM drive was simply doing the decoding, and passing the audio out into a CDROM input (just a line-level audio signal) on your sound card.
